The
Nutritional Liquifier is a Mekanism machine that turns any food into Nutritional Paste, which is a fluid you’re able to drink from a
Canteen. Every hunger point a food would have restored becomes 50 mB of paste, so it’s a way of storing a whole farm’s worth of food in one item.
It doesn’t matter how good the food is, as the saturation and any effects it has are ignored. That means cheap foods and even
Rotten Flesh are worth putting through it, and the paste that comes out is always the same.
How to Make It
You’ll need a
Steel Casing in the middle with a
Bowl on either side of it. The rows above and below are a
Basic Control Circuit with
Redstone Dust either side, which makes 4 Redstone Dust and 2 circuits altogether.
The Canteen is in the same viewer, and it’s a Bowl surrounded by 4
Tin Ingots. Both of them are cheap, so it’s worth making the pair together, as the paste isn’t much use without something to drink it from.
How It Works
Food goes in the slot on the left, and it’ll take 5 seconds for each item to be turned into paste, which costs 80 FE/t (200 J/t) while it’s working. The
Nutritional Liquifier will accept anything you’re able to eat, as long as it restores some hunger, and the tank inside holds up to 10 buckets of paste.

If the food comes in a container, like the
Bowl from a stew, then the empty container will be put in the output slot rather than being lost. There’s also a slot beside the tank, which is used to fill whatever you put in it, and that’s the simplest way to fill a Canteen, as you won’t need any pipes for it.
Paste from each food
The amount of paste you’ll get only depends on how many hunger points the food restores, where one point is half of a drumstick on the hunger bar. A few common foods are shown below, and anything that isn’t listed will follow the same rule of 50 mB for each point.
| Food | Hunger Points | Nutritional Paste |
|---|---|---|
| Rabbit Stew | 10 | 500 mB |
| Steak | 8 | 400 mB |
| Golden Carrot | 6 | 300 mB |
| Bread | 5 | 250 mB |
| Baked Potato | 5 | 250 mB |
| Rotten Flesh | 4 | 200 mB |
| Melon Slice | 2 | 100 mB |
| Dried Kelp | 1 | 50 mB |
Since the saturation is thrown away, a
Golden Carrot is a bit of a waste in here, whereas
Bread and Baked
Potatoes are ideal as they’re easy to farm.
Rotten Flesh will give the same paste as any other food that’s worth 4 points, and the Hunger effect it would normally give you doesn’t carry over into it.
Canteen
The
Canteen is able to hold 64 buckets of paste, which is enough to fill an empty hunger bar 64 times over. To fill it, you’ll want to place it in the slot beside the tank in the liquifier, and it’ll take about 25 seconds to fill from empty, as long as there’s enough paste waiting.

To drink from it, hold right-click for a little under 2 seconds, the same as eating. One drink will restore every hunger point that you’re missing, which uses 50 mB for each of them, and the saturation it gives is the same as
Steak. It won’t do anything while your hunger bar is full though, or when there isn’t enough paste left for a single point.
A Nutritional Paste Bucket can be drunk as well, and it’ll fill up to a whole hunger bar in one go. The
Bucket is used up whatever you were missing though, so a Canteen wastes far less paste.
The
Nutritional Paste Bucket is filled from the same slot as the Canteen, or from a Fluid Tank that’s holding paste. It’s mainly useful for moving some paste by hand, as a single Bucket is only worth one full hunger bar.
MekaSuit Nutritional Injection
The Canteen is also an ingredient later on, as it’s used to craft the
Nutritional Injection Unit for the MekaSuit Helmet. With that module installed, the Helmet will get its own paste tank, which holds twice as much as a Canteen, and it’ll feed you by itself whenever you’re hungry.
It uses the same amount of paste for each hunger point as a drink would, but it also takes 8,000 FE of the suit’s energy for each one, so it isn’t free. The modules page has the recipe and where it’s installed, which is done at a
Modification Station.
Upgrades and Automation
You’re able to put Speed, Energy and
Muffling Upgrades in the
Nutritional Liquifier, and with a full set of
Speed Upgrades it will get through a food item every half a second. Food can be fed in from a farm with a Logistical Transporter, and the paste will leave through a Mechanical Pipe on its right side, which is where it pushes the fluid out by itself.
With a crop farm feeding the machine and a Fluid Tank after it, you won’t really need to carry food around again. If you’re going to be growing crops for this anyway, then the same farm is able to feed a
Crusher for
Bio Fuel as well, which is what the Ethene page covers.
FAQ
It turns any food into Nutritional Paste at 50 mB for each hunger point the food restores. The paste is then drunk from a Canteen, or it’s fed to you by the MekaSuit’s
Nutritional Injection Unit, so you don’t have to carry stacks of food.
You’ll want to place the Canteen in the slot next to the paste tank, which is inside the Nutritional Liquifier’s screen, and it will fill up from the tank by itself. A full one holds 64 buckets of paste, which is enough to fill your hunger bar 64 times.
Only the hunger points count, as saturation and effects are ignored, so cheap foods that are easy to farm are the ones to use.
Bread and Baked
Potatoes give 250 mB each, and
Rotten Flesh gives 200 mB with no Hunger effect in the paste.
A drink will restore every hunger point that you’re missing at once, and it uses 50 mB of paste for each of them. So from an empty hunger bar it’ll use a whole bucket’s worth, and you won’t be able to drink at all while the bar is already full.
