The
Chemical Crystallizer is a Mekanism machine that’s used to turn chemicals back into items, and its main job is making Crystals out of Clean Slurry. It’s the last of the 3 machines in 5x ore processing, where every 200 mB of slurry becomes 1 Crystal, so an ore block that was dissolved will give you 5 of them.
It isn’t only for ore though, as it’s also how you’ll get
Lithium Dust,
Salt from Brine and
Antimatter Pellets later on. Each item takes 10 seconds to make and uses 160 FE/t (400 J/t), no matter which recipe it’s running.
How to Make It
It’s crafted with 4
Refined Obsidian Ingots in the corners, a
Steel Casing in the middle and an
Ultimate Control Circuit on either side. The last 2 spaces, above and below the casing, are filled with
Fluorite, which is the gem that drops from
Fluorite Ore.
This is the cheapest of the 3 machines at the top of the ore line, as it doesn’t need any tanks. You’ll still want a
Chemical Dissolution Chamber and a
Chemical Washer before it’s any use for ore, but it’s able to make
Salt and
Lithium Dust without them.
How It Works
The
Chemical Crystallizer has a single tank that holds 10,000 mB of whatever is piped in, and one output slot for the item. It needs the full amount for a recipe to be in the tank before it starts, and it then works for 10 seconds at 160 FE/t, so every item costs 32,000 FE out of the 64,000 FE that it stores.

For ore, that means the 1,000 mB of Clean Slurry from one ore block will be made into 5 Crystals over 50 seconds. That’s the same pace as a
Chemical Washer with no upgrades, so these 2 machines tend to need
Speed Upgrades at the same time.
Crystals aren’t able to be smelted or crushed, as they have to go back down through the rest of the line. Each one is injected into a Shard in a
Chemical Injection Chamber, then purified into a Clump, crushed, enriched and smelted, which is 5 more machines before it’s an ingot.
Recipes
There are 7 Crystals, for Iron, Gold, Copper, Osmium, Tin,
Lead and Uranium, and each of them comes from its own Clean Slurry. The other 3 recipes use different amounts, and they’re the only way to turn those chemicals into an item.
| Chemical In | Amount | Item Out |
|---|---|---|
| Clean Slurry (7 metals) | 200 mB | 1 Crystal of that metal |
| Gaseous Brine | 15 mB | 1 Salt |
| Lithium | 100 mB | 1 Lithium Dust |
| Antimatter | 1,000 mB | 1 Antimatter Pellet |
Whatever is in the tank decides which recipe runs, so there’s nothing to pick in the screen. The tank only holds one chemical at a time though, which means a machine that’s making Crystals can’t take Lithium until all of the slurry has been used up, and most players will build a second one for that.
Lithium Dust
Lithium Dust is the recipe most players will use this machine for outside of ore. Lithium comes out of a Thermal Evaporation Plant as a fluid, so it needs to go through a
Rotary Condensentrator first, as the Chemical Crystallizer only takes it as a chemical.
Salt and Antimatter Pellets
The
Salt recipe takes 15 mB of Gaseous Brine, which is the same amount that a
Chemical Oxidizer gives back from 1 Salt. So it’s a way of getting Salt out of the Brine from an evaporation plant, rather than a way of making more of it.

The
Antimatter Pellet recipe is the one you’ll use at the very end of the mod, as it takes a full 1,000 mB of Antimatter from a Supercritical Phase Shifter. It’s the only way to hold Antimatter as an item, and the pellets are needed for the crafting recipes that use it.
Upgrades and Automation
It takes Speed, Energy and Muffling upgrades, and there’s no
Chemical Upgrade for it, as it always uses the exact amount in the table. With 8
Speed Upgrades an item is made every second instead of every 10, which is enough to keep up with a 5x line that has been upgraded.
The chemical comes in through a Pressurized Tube, and the items will stay in the output slot until auto-eject is turned on in the Side Configuration tab. There isn’t a factory version of the Chemical Crystallizer, so a second one is the only other way to speed things up. If the line is running well, the next thing to look at is turning the machines below it into Factories.
FAQ
A chemical is piped into its tank with a Pressurized Tube, and it’ll start working by itself once there’s enough for a recipe and it has 160 FE/t of power. For ore that’s 200 mB of Clean Slurry from a
Chemical Washer. The item then appears in the output slot after 10 seconds, where it stays unless auto-eject is on.
Crystals go into a
Chemical Injection Chamber with Hydrogen Chloride, which turns each one into a Shard. The Shards are then purified into Clumps, crushed into Dirty Dust, enriched and smelted, the same as they are in the 4x line. Every Crystal ends up as 1 ingot, so 5 Crystals from an ore block are 5 ingots.
Lithium Dust is made from 100 mB of Lithium in a Chemical Crystallizer. The Lithium comes from evaporating Brine in a Thermal Evaporation Plant, which gives it as a fluid, so it has to be turned into a chemical in a
Rotary Condensentrator before it’ll go into the tank.
Each item takes 10 seconds, so the 5 Crystals from one ore block will take 50 seconds with no upgrades.
Speed Upgrades bring that down, with a full set of 8 making an item every second. It’ll use a lot more power when it’s upgraded like that, so it’s worth adding
Energy Upgrades as well.
