The
Atomic Disassembler is a Mekanism tool that mines every kind of block, so you’re able to use it in place of a pickaxe, axe, shovel and hoe, and it works as a sword as well. It runs on energy instead of durability, which means it’ll never break, but it can’t be enchanted or repaired either.
It’s crafted from 4
Infused Alloy, an
Energy Tablet, an
Atomic Alloy and a
Refined Obsidian Ingot, and it holds 400,000 FE (1,000,000 J) when it’s full. You’ll switch between its mining speeds with the Item Mode Switch key, which is N by default, and the faster the mode, the more energy each block is going to cost.
How to Get It
You’ll need a
Crafting Table and an
Atomic Alloy to make an
Atomic Disassembler, and that one alloy is the part that takes the longest to reach. The rest of the recipe is 4
Infused Alloy, an
Energy Tablet and a
Refined Obsidian Ingot, which goes in the bottom slot.
Whatever energy is stored in the Energy Tablet will carry over into the tool, so it’s worth charging the tablet first if you want to use it straight away. The alloys are covered on the Alloys and Control Circuits page, and the ingot comes from
Refined Obsidian.
On 1.20.1 the recipe is the same, but Infused Alloy itself was made with an
Iron Ingot back then, whereas it takes a
Copper Ingot now. The energy and damage numbers on this page are the same in both versions.
How to Use It
Holding the
Atomic Disassembler and mining with it works on any block, and everything it breaks will drop as if you’d used the right tool. It won’t strip logs, till soil or make paths though, as those jobs belong to the
Farming Unit on the
Meka-Tool.
Mining modes
Tapping the Item Mode Switch key will move it on to the next mode, and holding the key down opens a wheel that you’re able to pick from instead. Sneaking and scrolling the mouse wheel changes the mode as well. Each one has its own mining speed, and the energy used on a block goes up along with it.
| Mode | Mining Speed | Energy Per Block | Blocks Per Charge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Normal | 20 | 80 FE | 5,000 |
| Slow | 8 | 32 FE | 12,500 |
| Fast | 128 | 512 FE | 781 |
| Vein | 20 | 80 FE, then by distance for each extra block | Varies |
| Off | 0 | None | None |
For comparison, a
Diamond Pickaxe has a mining speed of 8 and a
Netherite Pickaxe has 9, so Normal is already more than twice as quick, and Fast will break most blocks straight away. Blocks that break instantly by hand, like
Tall Grass or a
Torch, only cost half as much.

If there isn’t enough energy left to pay for a block, it’ll still mine, just slower the emptier it gets. Off mode has a mining speed of 0, for when you only want to use it as a weapon. Mekanism’s other weapons are the Meka-Tool, the
Electric Bow and the
Flamethrower, which all run on energy or a chemical instead of durability.
Vein mode
Vein mode breaks a whole ore vein or tree at once, but it’s switched off in the mod’s config by default, which is why you might not see it on the wheel at all. A modpack or a server owner has to turn it on, and you’ll find where that’s done on the Config and Mod Compatibility page.

When it’s turned on, it only works on ores and logs, and it’ll take up to 128 connected blocks of the same type in one go. The block you break costs the same 80 FE as Normal mode, the ones touching it only cost half of that, and the price climbs quickly the further out the vein goes.
Using it as a weapon
The Atomic Disassembler swings at the same speed as a sword and adds 20 attack damage, whereas a
Netherite Sword only adds 7. Every hit uses 800 FE, so a full charge is good for 500 hits. Once it drops below 800 FE the damage starts to fall, and an empty one only does 4.
Charging the Atomic Disassembler
There are a few ways to charge it, and the simplest is to put it in the charging slot of an Energy Cube. You’re also able to stand on a powered
Chargepad with it anywhere in your inventory, or wear a
MekaSuit Bodyarmor with a
Charge Distribution Unit, which will keep it topped up as you play.

It can only take in 2,000 FE each tick, so going from empty to full takes about 10 seconds however strong the power source is. The
Meka-Tool is what you’ll want to look at next, as an
Atomic Disassembler is used up in its recipe.
FAQ
It’s crafted from 4
Infused Alloy, an
Energy Tablet, an
Atomic Alloy and a
Refined Obsidian Ingot in a
Crafting Table. The Atomic Alloy is the hard part, as it needs
Refined Obsidian Dust and a
Reinforced Alloy, so you’ll have a few machines running before you get there.
Vein mode is turned off in Mekanism’s default config, so it won’t show up when you change modes unless your modpack or server has switched it on. When it’s on, it only works on ores and logs anyway, and it’ll take up to 128 connected blocks at a time.
You’ll tap the Item Mode Switch key while holding it, which is N unless you’ve changed it, and it’ll move on to the next mode. Holding the key opens a wheel to pick from instead, and sneaking while you scroll the mouse wheel works as well.
It can’t be enchanted, and it can’t be repaired, as it has no durability to lose in the first place. If you’re after Fortune or Silk Touch, those come from modules on the
Meka-Tool instead, like the
Ore Refinement Unit and the
Silk Touch Unit.
