We are committed to respecting your privacy and protecting your personal information. In this Privacy Policy we explain what data is collected when you visit our site or use our player features, and how it is used.
This statement applies only to this website and the services we operate under Minecraft-Guides.com (including the optional player account, progress tracker, and the MCG Companion Mod). By using our website you consent to this Privacy Policy and agree to its terms.
1. Information You Provide Voluntarily
We may collect personal information that you voluntarily provide, such as:
- Your name and email address when you leave a comment
- Your name and email when you subscribe to our newsletter
- The email address (or Google/Discord account) you use to create a player account, see “Player Accounts and Progress Tracking” below
Comment and newsletter information is used only to notify you of comment replies (if you choose that option) or to send you new post notifications. We do not sell this information or share it with third parties for their own marketing.
2. Player Accounts and Progress Tracking
Creating an account is optional and is only needed to use our player features (tracking advancements and checklists, friends, daily games). If you create an account, we collect and store:
- Account details: Your email address and a password, or, if you sign in with Google or Discord, the email address and basic profile information (such as your display name and avatar) that provider shares with us. Passwords are handled and stored by our authentication provider in hashed form; we never see your password.
- Profile: a username you choose and an avatar/skin selection.
- Email preferences: whether you opted in to product and guide emails, and when. This is off by default and you can change it at any time.
- Linked Minecraft identity (only if you link the Companion Mod) – your Minecraft username and account UUID.
Gameplay data (opt-in, per world)
If you install the MCG Companion Mod and turn on syncing for a world, we store gameplay data for the worlds you choose. Syncing is off until you enable it in-game per world. This data may include:
- Advancements you have earned
- In-game statistics (e.g. play time, distance travelled, mobs defeated)
- Death events, including the cause, the dimension, and the in-game coordinates where they happened
- Play sessions (when and how long you played a world)
- A snapshot of the world: name, dimension, in-game day, experience level, difficulty, world seed, and your current equipment
- The list of mods installed in that world
We use this data to display your progress, power checklists and the activity feed, link the mods you use to our guides, and enable social comparisons. You control how much is tracked by choosing which worlds to sync.
Social features and visibility
Player features include friends, reactions, shared waypoints, an activity feed, and daily games (with scores and streaks). Your progress visibility is set to Private by default. You can change it to “Friends” or “Public” in your account settings. If you choose “Public”, the gameplay data above, including death coordinates and your friend connections, becomes visible to other users. Only set your profile to Public if you are comfortable sharing that information.
3. The MCG Companion Mod
The Companion Mod is an optional client-side mod. It does nothing until you link it to your account (with a one-time code) and explicitly enable syncing for a world. When enabled, it sends the gameplay data listed above to our servers over a secure connection, authenticated by a per-install token stored only in hashed form on our side. You can stop syncing at any time by disabling it in-game (/mcg sync off), revoking mod access from your account settings, or deleting the world’s data from the site.
4. How We Use Your Information, and Our Legal Bases
- To provide the features you ask for (account, tracking, social, games) – necessary to deliver a service you requested.
- To operate and secure the site (preventing abuse, debugging) – our legitimate interests.
- To send product and guide emails – only with your consent (the opt-in described above), which you can withdraw at any time.
- Analytics and advertising – as described in the Cookies and Advertising sections below.
5. Automatic Gathering of Information
Like most websites, we automatically collect certain technical information when you visit, such as referring websites, pages visited, and general usage data. We use Google Analytics for this purpose, which collects anonymous usage data to help us understand how the site is used.
6. Cookies
We use session and persistent cookies for site functionality, comments, subscriptions, advertising, and personalization. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Signing in to a player account also stores a session token in your browser so you stay logged in.
7. Third-Party Services
We rely on the following service providers (“processors”) to operate the site and player features. They process data only to provide their service to us:
- Supabase: hosts our player database and authentication. Player account and gameplay data is stored in the European Union (Supabase EU region).
- Google and Discord: optional sign-in (OAuth). If you use them, they share your email and basic profile with us; your use of them is also governed by their own privacy policies.
- Mojang / Microsoft: to verify a Minecraft username and resolve its account UUID when you link the mod.
- mc-heads.net: to render Minecraft avatars from a username/UUID.
- Google Analytics: site analytics (see above).
- Mediavine: advertising (see below).
8. Mediavine Programmatic Advertising (Ver 1.1)
The Website works with Mediavine to manage third-party interest-based advertising appearing on the Website. Mediavine serves content and advertisements when you visit the Website, which may use first and third-party cookies. A cookie is a small text file which is sent to your computer or mobile device (referred to in this policy as a “device”) by the web server so that a website can remember some information about your browsing activity on the Website.
First party cookies are created by the website that you are visiting. A third-party cookie is frequently used in behavioral advertising and analytics and is created by a domain other than the website you are visiting. Third-party cookies, tags, pixels, beacons and other similar technologies (collectively, “Tags”) may be placed on the Website to monitor interaction with advertising content and to target and optimize advertising.
Each internet browser has functionality so that you can block both first and third-party cookies and clear your browser’s cache. The “help” feature of the menu bar on most browsers will tell you how to stop accepting new cookies, how to receive notification of new cookies, how to disable existing cookies and how to clear your browser’s cache. For more information about cookies and how to disable them, you can consult the information at All About Cookies.
Without cookies you may not be able to take full advantage of the Website content and features. Please note that rejecting cookies does not mean that you will no longer see ads when you visit our Site. In the event you opt-out, you will still see non-personalized advertisements on the Website.
The Website collects the following data using a cookie when serving personalized ads:
- IP Address
- Operating System type
- Operating System version
- Device Type
- Language of the website
- Web browser type
- Email (in hashed form)
Mediavine Partners (companies listed below with whom Mediavine shares data) may also use this data to link to other end user information the partner has independently collected to deliver targeted advertisements.
Mediavine Partners may also separately collect data about end users from other sources, such as advertising IDs or pixels, and link that data to data collected from Mediavine publishers in order to provide interest-based advertising across your online experience, including devices, browsers and apps.
This data includes usage data, cookie information, device information, information about interactions between users and advertisements and websites, geolocation data, traffic data, and information about a visitor’s referral source to a particular website. Mediavine Partners may also create unique IDs to create audience segments, which are used to provide targeted advertising.
If you would like more information about this practice and to know your choices to opt-in or opt-out of this data collection, please visit National Advertising Initiative opt out page. You may also visit Digital Advertising Alliance website and Network Advertising Initiative website to learn more information about interest-based advertising. You may download the AppChoices app at Digital Advertising Alliance’s AppChoices app to opt out in connection with mobile apps, or use the platform controls on your mobile device to opt out.
For specific information about Mediavine Partners, the data each collects and their data collection and privacy policies, please visit Mediavine Partners.
9. Data Retention
We keep your account and gameplay data for as long as your account exists. Some data is automatically pruned to keep features responsive — for example, the activity feed is limited to roughly the last 90 days, and per-world death history is capped at the most recent entries. When you delete a world or your account (see Your Rights), the associated data is removed.
10. Data Storage and Security
Player data is stored in the European Union with our database provider. Passwords are hashed by our authentication provider, mod sync tokens are stored only as hashes, and access to your data is restricted by per-user database rules. Sync is opt-in per world. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
11. Children’s Privacy
You must be at least 13 years old to create a player account. If you live in a country where the age of digital consent is higher (up to 16 in parts of the European Union), you may only create an account with the permission of a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children below these ages; if you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Request a copy of any personal data we hold about you
- Request that we correct or delete your personal data
- Delete a tracked world and all its data yourself, from the world page on the site
- Delete your entire account and all associated data yourself, from your account settings — this is permanent and immediate
- Unlink the Companion Mod, which stops all in-game syncing
- Change your progress visibility (Private / Friends / Public) at any time
- Opt out of marketing emails, either by changing your account preference or by clicking “unsubscribe” in any message
To exercise any right that you cannot complete yourself, contact us at: contact@minecraft-guides.com.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
