The
Chemical Oxidizer is a Mekanism machine that’s used to turn items into chemicals, and it’s the opposite of the
Chemical Crystallizer. You’ll mostly use it for
Sulfur Dust, which becomes the Sulfur Dioxide that’s needed for Sulfuric Acid, and for
Yellow Cake Uranium on the way to Fissile Fuel.
Each item takes 5 seconds and the machine uses 80 FE/t (200 J/t), so it’s a cheap one to run. It doesn’t need anything piped into it either, as items go in and a chemical comes out, which is then sent on through a Pressurized Tube.
How to Make It
The recipe uses 4
Infused Alloy in the corners and 2
Basic Control Circuits above and below the middle. Across the middle row there’s a
Personal Chest on the left, a
Dynamic Tank in the middle and a
Basic Chemical Tank on the right.
A
Personal Barrel will work in place of the Personal Chest, as the recipe takes either of them. The Dynamic Tank is the casing block for the tank multiblock, and you only need a single one of them here, not a built tank.
How It Works
There’s one item slot and one output tank in the
Chemical Oxidizer, and the tank is able to hold 10,000 mB. An item takes 5 seconds to turn into its chemical at 80 FE/t, which works out at 8,000 FE each, and the machine stores up to 32,000 FE.

The tank can only hold one chemical at a time, so the machine will stop if you put in an item that makes something different to what’s already in there. It’ll also stop once the tank is full, which is after 100
Sulfur Dust if nothing is taking the Sulfur Dioxide away.
The Chemical Oxidizer pushes its chemical out by itself, but only through its output side, which is the right side as you face the front. Put the tube or tank there, or change the side in the Side Configuration tab, as otherwise it’ll fill up and stop without showing an error.
Recipes
These are all of the recipes, with how much chemical each item gives. The first 3 are the main reasons to build one, as there’s no other machine that will take those items, whereas most of the others can be done in a different machine as well.
| Item | Chemical | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Sulfur Dust | Sulfur Dioxide | 100 mB |
| Yellow Cake Uranium | Uranium Oxide | 250 mB |
| Reprocessed Fissile Fragment | Fissile Fuel | 2,000 mB |
| Lithium Dust | Lithium | 100 mB |
| Salt | Gaseous Brine | 15 mB |
| Coal or Coal Dust | Carbon | 10 mB |
| Charcoal or Charcoal Dust | Carbon | 20 mB |
| Redstone Dust | Redstone | 10 mB |
| Diamond Dust, Gold Dust, Tin Dust or Refined Obsidian Dust | Diamond, Gold, Tin or Refined Obsidian | 10 mB |
| Any Enriched item | The same as its dust | 80 mB |
| Bio Fuel | Biomass | 5 mB |
| Any mushroom, Crimson Fungus or Warped Fungus | Fungi | 10 mB |
Blocks are worth 9 times the single item, so a
Block of Coal gives 90 mB of Carbon, a
Block of Charcoal gives 180 mB, a
Block of Redstone gives 90 mB and a
Block of Bio Fuel gives 45 mB. The Enriched items are a better deal than the dusts, as one dust is enriched into an item that’s worth 8 times as much.
Sulfur Dioxide
Sulfur Dust is the reason most players build this machine, as it’s the start of the Sulfuric Acid chain. The 100 mB of Sulfur Dioxide from each dust goes through 2 Chemical Infusers and comes out as 100 mB of acid, whereas dropping the dust into a
Chemical Dissolution Chamber directly only gives 2 mB.
Uranium Oxide and Fissile Fuel
Yellow Cake Uranium is made by enriching
Uranium Ingots, and each one gives 250 mB of Uranium Oxide here. That’s combined with Hydrofluoric Acid in a
Chemical Infuser, which is covered on the Fissile Fuel page, along with the amounts for a full reactor.

The
Reprocessed Fissile Fragment recipe is how reprocessed fuel gets back into a reactor, as each fragment is turned straight into 2,000 mB of Fissile Fuel. They’re made from
Plutonium Pellets in a
Chemical Injection Chamber, so you won’t see this one until a reactor has been making Nuclear Waste for a while.
Carbon, Redstone and the other infuse types
The Carbon, Redstone,
Diamond, Gold, Tin,
Refined Obsidian, Biomass and Fungi recipes are the same ones that a
Metallurgic Infuser does in its own slot. You won’t need the Chemical Oxidizer for them with a single machine, but it lets you store these as chemicals and pipe them, which should help once you’re running Infusing Factories.
Upgrades and Automation
It takes Speed, Energy and Muffling upgrades. A full set of 8
Speed Upgrades brings an item down from 5 seconds to half a second, and the amount of chemical from each item stays the same, so there’s no downside to them other than the extra power.
Items can be piped in from any input side with a Logistical Transporter, and the chemical leaves through a Pressurized Tube on its output side. There isn’t a factory version of it, so you’d place a second one if you need more. From here, the Sulfur Dioxide and Uranium Oxide both go into a
Chemical Infuser, and the
Rotary Condensentrator is the last machine that the acid chain needs.
FAQ
It’s used to turn items into chemicals, like
Sulfur Dust into Sulfur Dioxide or
Yellow Cake Uranium into Uranium Oxide. Those 2 are needed for Sulfuric Acid and Fissile Fuel, so you’ll want one for 5x ore processing and another for a Fission Reactor. It’s able to make Lithium, Gaseous Brine and the infuse types as well.
Sulfur Dust comes from 2 places.
Gunpowder can be put through a
Chemical Injection Chamber with Hydrogen Chloride, which gives 1 Sulfur Dust each, or you’re able to get it as a side product when
Coal is turned into Hydrogen in a
Pressurized Reaction Chamber. Either way, each dust is worth 100 mB of Sulfur Dioxide.
It stops when the output tank is full, or when the item in the slot makes a different chemical to the one that’s in the tank. The chemical only leaves through the output side, so check that the tube is on the right of the machine. If the wrong chemical is in there, it can be dumped with a
Gauge Dropper.
It only does the first step, which is turning Sulfur Dust into Sulfur Dioxide. That has to be combined with Oxygen in a
Chemical Infuser to make Sulfur Trioxide, and then with Water Vapor in a second one to get the acid. So you’ll need the Chemical Oxidizer, 2 Chemical Infusers and a
Rotary Condensentrator for the full chain.
