The
Chemical Injection Chamber is a Mekanism machine that’s used to turn an ore block into 4 Shards, which is the first step of 4x ore processing. It runs on Hydrogen Chloride and 160 FE/t (400 J/t), and it takes 10 seconds for each ore, with the Shards then going through the 3x line that you’ll already have.
It’s also the machine that takes the most setting up before it does anything, as Hydrogen Chloride needs Chlorine, and that only comes from Brine. So you’ll want a Thermal Evaporation Plant built and running before this one is worth crafting.
How to Make It
You’ll need 4
Reinforced Alloy, 2
Elite Control Circuits and 2
Gold Ingots to craft it, and these are placed around a
Purification Chamber in the middle. The Purification Chamber is used up by the recipe, but the 4x line still needs one after the Chemical Injection Chamber, so you’ll have to build another.
Reinforced Alloy is made in a
Metallurgic Infuser from
Infused Alloy and
Diamond, and the Elite Control Circuits each need 2 of them as well. That makes this the first machine in the ore line which costs Diamonds, with 8 Reinforced Alloy going into each one.
How It Works
Inside the
Chemical Injection Chamber there’s a slot for the ore and a second slot for the chemical, with a tank that holds 210 mB. It uses 160 FE/t while it’s working and stores up to 64,000 FE, so each 10 second operation will cost you 32,000 FE, which is double what a
Purification Chamber uses.

Shards can’t be smelted or crushed, so they have to be sent into a Purification Chamber to become Clumps. From there it’s the same as 3x, with the Clumps going to a
Crusher, then an
Enrichment Chamber and a
Furnace, which makes the whole 4x line 5 machines long.
The raw ore recipe takes 3 pieces at once and gives back 8 Shards, so one or two pieces of raw ore will just sit in the slot and nothing will happen. If the machine has power and Hydrogen Chloride but won’t start, it’s usually waiting on a third piece.
How to Get Hydrogen Chloride
Hydrogen Chloride is made in a
Chemical Infuser from equal amounts of Hydrogen and Chlorine. The Hydrogen is easy, as it comes from Water in an
Electrolytic Separator, but the Chlorine has to be made by putting Brine through a second Separator, which gives 1 mB of Chlorine for every 10 mB of Brine.

Brine is made by evaporating Water in a Thermal Evaporation Plant, and it takes 10 mB of Water to get 1 mB of it. So every 1 mB of Hydrogen Chloride ends up costing 100 mB of Water, and a single ore needs about 20 buckets of Water to be evaporated for it.
Like the
Purification Chamber, this machine takes its chemical on every tick, which adds up to around 200 mB for each item, or about 180 mB on average as the amount is rolled each time. You’re able to put
Salt in the chemical slot as well, but each one only gives 2 mB, so it’d take roughly 90 Salt to get through a single ore.
Recipes
An ore block gives 4 Shards, whereas raw ore works out at 8 Shards for every 3 pieces. A block of raw ore is the better choice if you have them, as it’ll give 24 Shards in one go and only uses twice the Hydrogen Chloride of a single ore block.
| Input | Shards | Hydrogen Chloride |
|---|---|---|
| 1 ore block | 4 | About 200 mB |
| 3 raw ore | 8 | About 200 mB |
| 1 block of raw ore | 24 | About 400 mB |
| 1 Crystal | 1 | About 200 mB |
The Crystal recipe is used once you’ve moved up to 5x, as every Crystal from a
Chemical Crystallizer has to be injected into a Shard. An ore block gives 5 Crystals, so at that point the Chemical Injection Chamber will be using a full bucket of Hydrogen Chloride for each ore.
Other recipes
It has a few recipes that aren’t for ores, and they don’t all use Hydrogen Chloride.
Gunpowder is turned into
Sulfur Dust with it, which you’ll need for Sulfuric Acid later on, and a
Plutonium Pellet becomes 4
Reprocessed Fissile Fragments.
| Input | Chemical | Output |
|---|---|---|
| Gunpowder | Hydrogen Chloride | Sulfur Dust |
| Plutonium Pellet | Hydrogen Chloride | 4 Reprocessed Fissile Fragments |
| Concrete Powder | Water Vapor or Steam | Concrete |
| Dirt | Water Vapor or Steam | Mud |
| Terracotta | Water Vapor or Steam | Clay |
| Brick | Water Vapor or Steam | Clay Ball |
| Any dead Coral | Water Vapor or Steam | The living Coral |
| Copper blocks | Oxygen | The next stage of oxidation |
The Water Vapor recipes will work with Steam as well, so a boiler or a
Rotary Condensentrator is able to feed them. Copper blocks are aged one stage for each pass, which means a new
Block of Copper has to go through 3 times with Oxygen to be fully oxidized.
Upgrades and Automation
It takes the same 4 upgrades as the
Purification Chamber, which are Speed, Energy, Muffling and Chemical.
Speed Upgrades make it use more Hydrogen Chloride for every item, up to around 2,000 mB each with all 8 installed, and that’s a lot of Brine to keep up with.
Chemical Upgrades bring it back down, as 8 of them will cut the cost to about 20 mB per item on their own. With how much Water goes into each bucket of Hydrogen Chloride, these are worth adding to this machine before any Speed Upgrades go in.
The chemical tank can only be filled through a Pressurized Tube, and the Shards won’t leave until auto-eject is turned on in the Side Configuration tab. It can be made into an Injecting Factory as well, which runs up to 9 items from one tank. Once it’s running, the
Chemical Dissolution Chamber is the start of the 5x line.
FAQ
It needs Hydrogen Chloride in its chemical tank and 160 FE/t of power, as well as something to inject, like an ore block or 3 pieces of raw ore. Hydrogen Chloride is made in a
Chemical Infuser from Hydrogen and Chlorine, and it has to be piped in with a Pressurized Tube, as the tank only holds 210 mB.
Salt can be placed in the chemical slot, where it’s turned straight into Hydrogen Chloride, but each one is only worth 2 mB. A single ore uses around 180 to 200 mB, so you’d need about 90 Salt for it. It’s fine for the
Gunpowder recipe or for testing, but not for running ore through.
The raw ore recipe needs 3 pieces in the slot before it’ll start, as 3 raw ore are turned into 8 Shards together. It also only works with the 7 metals that have Shards, which are Iron, Gold, Copper, Osmium, Tin,
Lead and Uranium, so things like
Diamond or Redstone ore won’t go in either.
Shards are put into a
Purification Chamber with Oxygen, which turns each one into a Clump. The Clumps are then crushed into Dirty Dust, cleaned in an
Enrichment Chamber and smelted, so every Shard ends up as 1 ingot. They can’t be smelted or crushed directly, which is why the 3x line has to be kept running after this machine.
