The
Energized Smelter is Mekanism’s electric furnace, which will smelt anything that a normal Furnace does but runs on 20 FE/t (50 J/t) in place of fuel. It’s the last machine in every ore processing line, as it’s where the dust is turned into ingots.
It takes 10 seconds for each item with no upgrades, which is the same speed as a vanilla
Furnace. The reason to build one is that it never needs
Coal, and it’s able to go a lot faster once you start adding upgrades to it.
How to Make It
It’s crafted from a
Steel Casing with a block of
Glass on each side, 2
Basic Control Circuits above and below, and 4
Redstone Dust in the corners. That’s the same layout as the
Enrichment Chamber, with Glass where the
Iron Ingots would be.
Since the two machines share most of their parts, it’s common to craft them together and place them side by side. The smelter only needs power once it’s down, as there’s no fuel slot on it at all.
How It Works
The smelter has one input slot and one output slot, and it will use 4,000 FE to smelt each item. It doesn’t have recipes of its own, as it reads the game’s
Furnace recipes instead, which means that Furnace recipes added by other mods will work in it as well.

All of the dusts in Mekanism smelt into their ingots this way, including
Steel Dust into a
Steel Ingot and
Netherite Dust into a
Netherite Ingot. They’re ordinary Furnace recipes, so you’re able to use a normal Furnace for them until the smelter is built.
The Energized Smelter only reads recipes that a Furnace is able to do. Anything that can only be made in a
Blast Furnace or a
Smoker in your modpack won’t show up in it, although ores and food are fine, as vanilla gives those to the Furnace as well.
Upgrades and Automation
It takes up to 8
Speed Upgrades, 8
Energy Upgrades and one
Muffling Upgrade. A single Speed Upgrade brings an item down to about 7.5 seconds, 3 of them make it quicker than a
Blast Furnace, and all 8 will smelt an item every second.

The power rises faster than the speed does though, as 8 Speed Upgrades on their own use 2,000 FE/t. Adding 8 Energy Upgrades cuts that to 200 FE/t, which works out as the same energy for each item as a smelter with nothing in it, and Machine Upgrades has the numbers for each step.
Like the other machines, it won’t push ingots out until auto-eject is switched on in its side configuration. It can be turned into a Smelting Factory later for up to 9 items at once, and if you’re looking to rebuild ore blocks out of what you’ve smelted, that’s the job of the
Combiner.
FAQ
With no upgrades it’s the same speed as a
Furnace, at 10 seconds an item, so the only gain is that it runs on power. Each
Speed Upgrade makes it quicker, and with 8 of them it’ll smelt an item every second, which is ten times as fast.
It uses 20 FE/t while it’s smelting, or 4,000 FE for each item, and it stores 8,000 FE inside. That’s low enough for one
Heat Generator to run it alongside an
Enrichment Chamber, as the two of them only need 40 FE/t together.
Food works in it, as raw food has a normal Furnace recipe in vanilla and the smelter reads all of those. It’s only the recipes that exist for a
Smoker or
Blast Furnace alone that it isn’t able to do, which some modpacks add.
It’s crafted from a
Steel Casing, 2
Glass, 2
Basic Control Circuits and 4
Redstone Dust. The Steel Casing is the slow part, as it needs
Steel Ingots and an
Osmium Ingot, and both the Steel and the circuits are made in a
Metallurgic Infuser first.
