The
Meka-Tool is Mekanism’s end-game tool, which mines every block like the
Atomic Disassembler does, but gets all of its strength from modules that you’ll install in it. Without any, it’s slower than a
Diamond Pickaxe, so the modules are really what you’re building it for.
To craft one you’ll need an Atomic Disassembler, 2
Ultimate Control Circuits, a
Configurator, 2
HDPE Sheets, 2
Polonium Pellets and a
Basic Induction Cell. It holds 6,400,000 FE (16,000,000 J) to start with, and you’re able to raise that by adding
Energy Units, which each double it.
How to Get It
The
Meka-Tool is made in a
Crafting Table, and the recipe uses up an
Atomic Disassembler, which sits in the middle of the grid. Around it go 2
Ultimate Control Circuits, a
Configurator, 2
HDPE Sheets, 2
Polonium Pellets and a
Basic Induction Cell.
The Polonium Pellets are what make this a late item, as Polonium only comes from the waste of a running Fission Reactor, and you’ll find how it’s made on the Nuclear Waste, Plutonium and Polonium page. HDPE Sheets are covered under HDPE, and most of the modules need them too.
How to Use It

A new
Meka-Tool has a mining speed of 4 and adds 4 attack damage, whereas a
Diamond Pickaxe mines at 8 and the
Atomic Disassembler at 20. It’ll still break any block and drop it properly, and mining costs 4 FE for each point of mining speed, so it’s only 16 FE a block at this stage.
Tapping the Item Mode Switch key (N by default) cycles the mining speed of an
Excavation Escalation Unit, and holding it opens a wheel instead. You’re able to hold the Show Details key, which is Left Shift, over the tool in your inventory to list what’s installed.
Everything else comes from modules, which are installed at a
Modification Station. Once they’re in, you’ll hold the tool and press the Module Tweaker key, which is the backslash key by default, to open a screen where each module can be switched on or off and set to the level you want.
Meka-Tool Modules
There are 10 modules that fit the
Meka-Tool, and some of them can be installed more than once to unlock higher settings. The full list for the armor as well, with every recipe, is on the MekaSuit and Meka-Tool Modules page.
| Module | Max Installed | What It Does |
|---|---|---|
| Excavation Escalation Unit | 4 | Sets the mining speed: 16 with 1 unit, then 32, 64 and 128 |
| Attack Amplification Unit | 4 | Adds up to 8 bonus damage with 1 unit, then 16, 24 and 32 |
| Energy Unit | 8 | Doubles the energy capacity and the charge rate for each one installed |
| Silk Touch Unit | 1 | Works as Silk Touch, at 10 times the energy per block |
| Ore Refinement Unit | 3 | Works as Fortune I, II or III by the number installed |
| Blasting Unit | 4 | Mines a 3×3 square with 1 unit, then 5×5, 7×7 and 9×9 |
| Vein Mining Unit | 4 | Mines whole ore veins and trees, and other blocks in Extended Mode |
| Farming Unit | 4 | Right-click to till, strip logs and make paths, in up to a 7×7 |
| Shearing Unit | 1 | Makes the tool work as Shears |
| Teleportation Unit | 1 | Right-click to teleport to a block up to 100 blocks away |
The
Excavation Escalation Unit is the one to make first, as a single unit already takes the mining speed from 4 up to 16. With all 4 installed you’ll get the Extreme setting, which matches the Disassembler’s Fast mode at 128, and it costs the same 512 FE for each block.

For fighting, the
Attack Amplification Unit adds bonus damage on top of the base 4, up to 32 with 4 units. The base damage is free, but the bonus isn’t, as every hit uses 800 FE for each 4 points of bonus damage, so a hit at the full 32 will cost 6,400 FE.
Modules that conflict
Some modules do the same job, so only one of them will be active at a time. You’re able to install them all, but switching one on in the Module Tweaker will turn the others in its group off. The
Silk Touch Unit and the
Ore Refinement Unit are one group. The other is the
Farming Unit, the
Shearing Unit and the
Teleportation Unit, as all three use a right-click.
Blasting and vein mining
The
Blasting Unit mines a flat square around the block you break, which is one block deep and faces the way you’re looking. Sneaking while you mine will break a single block instead. The square mines at the speed of its hardest block, and every block in it costs the normal amount of energy.
A
Vein Mining Unit takes ores and logs straight away, up to 128 connected blocks at once. Its Extended Mode is off to begin with, and turning it on lets it take any other block as well, within a range of 2 blocks for each unit installed. It works together with the Blasting Unit, so each block in the square can start a vein.
Teleporting
With a Teleportation Unit switched on, a right-click will put you on top of the block you’re looking at, as long as there are two free blocks above it. The cost isn’t even, as it grows with the square of the distance, so 10 blocks is 4,000 FE, 30 blocks is 36,000 FE and the full 100 blocks is 400,000 FE.
Energy and Charging
The
Meka-Tool stores 6,400,000 FE and takes in up to 40,000 FE each tick, which fills it in 8 seconds from a strong enough source. Every
Energy Unit doubles both numbers, so with the maximum of 8 it’ll hold about 1.6 billion FE.
It charges in the slot of an Energy Cube, on a
Chargepad, or from a
MekaSuit Bodyarmor that has a
Charge Distribution Unit. If it’s ever destroyed as a dropped item, the modules inside will drop, so they aren’t lost. The
Modification Station is the block you’ll need next to put any of them in.
FAQ
It’s crafted from an
Atomic Disassembler, 2
Ultimate Control Circuits, a
Configurator, 2
HDPE Sheets, 2
Polonium Pellets and a
Basic Induction Cell. The Polonium is the slow part, as it’s made from the Nuclear Waste of a Fission Reactor, so you’ll need one of those running first.
A Meka-Tool with nothing installed only has a mining speed of 4, which is half of a
Diamond Pickaxe. You’ll want to craft an
Excavation Escalation Unit and install it at a
Modification Station, as one unit raises it to 16 and four of them reach 128.
Modules go in at a Modification Station, where the tool sits in one slot and the module in the other, and it only takes half a second with power connected. After that, you’ll press the Module Tweaker key while holding the tool to change the settings, like the mining speed or the blast size.
Both the
Silk Touch Unit and the
Ore Refinement Unit can be installed, but only one of them is able to be switched on at a time. The Ore Refinement Unit is Mekanism’s version of Fortune, and you’ll need 3 of them for Fortune III, whereas Silk Touch only needs the one.
