The
Modification Station is the Mekanism block that’s used to install modules into the MekaSuit and the
Meka-Tool, and to take them back out again. It’s two blocks wide and two tall, and it needs power connected to the back before it’ll do anything.
It’s crafted from 4
HDPE Sheets, a
Chest, 2
Ultimate Control Circuits, a
Steel Casing and a
Polonium Pellet. Installing a module takes half a second and uses 1,600 FE (4,000 J), whereas removing one is instant and doesn’t cost anything.
How to Make It
You’ll make the
Modification Station in a
Crafting Table, with a
Steel Casing in the middle and a wooden
Chest above it. The rest of the grid is 4
HDPE Sheets, 2
Ultimate Control Circuits and a single
Polonium Pellet.
The Polonium Pellet means there’s no way to build one before you have a Fission Reactor making waste, as that’s where Polonium comes from. That’s the same point where the MekaSuit and
Meka-Tool open up, so you won’t need the station any earlier.
Module Base
Every module recipe has a
Module Base in the middle, so it’s worth making a stack of these at the same time. One craft uses 4
Bronze Nuggets, 4
Tin Ingots and an HDPE Sheet, and it’ll give you 2 of them.
The modules themselves are all listed on the MekaSuit and Meka-Tool Modules page, with what each one needs around its Module Base. The cheaper ones only take
Infused Alloy and more HDPE Sheets.
How It Works
The
Modification Station takes up a 2×2 space, so it won’t place unless there’s room for a block above it and another column to its right as you look at the front. Power goes in through the back face only, from a Universal Cable or an Energy Cube set against it.

It doesn’t need much, as it only holds 16,000 FE and draws 160 FE a tick while it’s working. There’s a slot on its screen for an
Energy Tablet or another charged item too, which will run it without any cables at all.
Installing a module
Open the station and put the armor piece or the tool in the slot on the right, then the module in the slot on the left. After half a second it’ll be installed, and if you’ve put in a stack of the same module, the whole stack goes in at once, up to the most that item can hold.
Nothing will happen if the module doesn’t fit that item, or if it already has the maximum. You’re able to check this before crafting, as hovering over a module shows a Supported by list of the items that take it, and any modules it conflicts with.
Removing a module
With an item in the right slot, the station’s screen lists every module that’s installed in it. Selecting one gives you the choice to remove a single copy or all of them, and they’ll go straight into your inventory. It won’t remove anything while your inventory is full, so make some space first.
The station is only for putting modules in and taking them out. Their settings, like the mining speed or the
Jetpack mode, are changed with the Module Tweaker key (backslash by default) while you’re holding or wearing the item, and that works anywhere.
On 1.20.1 the station is slower, as an install takes 2 seconds there instead of half a second. It only draws 40 FE a tick while it does it though, so the energy for each install comes to the same 1,600 FE, and the recipe hasn’t changed either.
Upgrades and Automation
The
Modification Station doesn’t take any upgrades, so there’s no way to make it faster, and at half a second an install it doesn’t really need it. It does have the usual redstone control and security settings, which means you’re able to lock it to yourself on a server.

Once the station is down, the MekaSuit and Meka-Tool Modules page is where you’ll pick what to put in it. The
Energy Unit and the
Excavation Escalation Unit are two that don’t need any more Polonium, so they can be crafted straight away.
FAQ
Give it power through the back, then open it and place a MekaSuit piece or the
Meka-Tool in the right slot and a module in the left one. It’ll install after half a second, and to take a module out you’ll select it in the list on the same screen and remove it.
It’s usually because the module doesn’t fit that item, like a Helmet module in the Boots, or the item already has as many as it can hold. The station also has to have power, and it only takes that in from the back face, or from a charged item in its energy slot.
Modules can be taken out at the Modification Station at any time, and they come back as items, so nothing is lost. You’re able to remove one copy or every copy of a module, and it’s free and instant, as long as there’s room in your inventory for them.
A Module Base is crafted from 4
Bronze Nuggets, 4
Tin Ingots and an
HDPE Sheet in a
Crafting Table, and each craft gives 2. Every module recipe takes one, so you’ll go through a lot of them, and it’s the HDPE Sheet that tends to hold things up as it needs Ethene.
