The
Combiner is a Mekanism machine that puts two items together into one, and its main recipe rebuilds an ore block out of 8 raw ore and a piece of
Cobblestone. It uses 20 FE/t (50 J/t) and takes 10 seconds for each operation.
It often gets described as a part of ore processing, but it isn’t one of the steps and it won’t give you more ingots. Putting raw ore through it actually loses most of the metal, so it’s a machine for making ore blocks on purpose, and for a handful of smaller recipes like dye mixing.
How to Make It
The recipe needs a
Steel Casing in the middle, 4
Reinforced Alloys in the corners, 2
Elite Control Circuits above and below, and
Cobblestone on each side. Other plain stones like
Cobbled Deepslate will work in place of the Cobblestone.
Reinforced Alloy needs
Diamond, and the Elite circuits do as well, so this is a mid-game machine and a fairly expensive one for what it does. Alloys and Control Circuits goes through how both of those are made.
How It Works
There are two input slots on the Combiner, a main one and an extra one, along with a single output. The main slot takes the item you’re building with, like raw ore, and the extra slot takes the block it’s combined into, which is used up one at a time.

For Iron, Gold, Osmium, Tin,
Lead and Uranium, it’s 8 raw ore and 1
Cobblestone for one ore block. Using
Cobbled Deepslate in the extra slot gives the deepslate version of the ore, and Copper is a lot more expensive at 20
Raw Copper for each ore.
A rebuilt ore block is worth 5 ingots at most, on a full 5x line. The 8 raw ore that went into it would have been worth far more by themselves, as just 6 of them make 20 ingots on that same line. Raw ore is always better off going straight into the first machine.
Recipes
Ore Blocks
The gems and dusts have ore recipes too, which use dust in the main slot instead of raw ore. These are mostly useful for decoration, or for a modpack recipe that asks for the ore block itself.
| Main slot | Extra slot | Output |
|---|---|---|
| 8 raw Iron, Gold, Osmium, Tin, Lead or Uranium | Cobblestone | 1 ore block |
| The same 8 raw ore | Cobbled Deepslate | 1 deepslate ore block |
| 20 Raw Copper | Cobblestone | 1 Copper Ore |
| 8 Raw Gold | Netherrack | 1 Nether Gold Ore |
| 8 Coal Dust | Cobblestone | 1 Coal Ore |
| 5 Diamond Dust or Emerald Dust | Cobblestone | 1 Diamond Ore or Emerald Ore |
| 16 Redstone Dust | Cobblestone | 1 Redstone Ore |
| 27 Lapis Lazuli Dust | Cobblestone | 1 Lapis Lazuli Ore |
| 14 Quartz Dust | Netherrack | 1 Nether Quartz Ore |
| 14 Fluorite Dust | Cobblestone | 1 Fluorite Ore |
| 2 Netherite Dust | Basalt | 1 Ancient Debris |
None of these come out ahead when the ore is processed again. A
Redstone Ore gives 12
Redstone Dust in an
Enrichment Chamber but costs 16 to make, and a
Diamond Ore costs 5
Diamond Dust for 2
Diamonds back.
Other Recipes
Outside of ores, it’s able to mix dyes, turn 4
Obsidian Dust and
Cobbled Deepslate back into
Obsidian, and make
Gravel from
Flint and
Cobblestone. It will also wax Copper blocks with
Honeycomb, and
Glowstone Dust can be combined with an
Ink Sac,
Sweet Berries or an
Item Frame for the glowing version of each.

There are a few building recipes as well, like
Wheat and
Mud for
Packed Mud, or 3
Hanging Roots and
Dirt for
Rooted Dirt. They’re small recipes that you won’t build the machine for, but they’re there to use if you already have one running.
Upgrades and Automation
The Combiner takes up to 8
Speed Upgrades and 8
Energy Upgrades, along with a single
Muffling Upgrade. It holds 16,000 FE, which is double what the other basic machines store, and a full set of Speed Upgrades will raise its power use to 2,000 FE/t.
If you’re automating it, both input slots need feeding, so the
Cobblestone has to be piped into the extra slot separately from the raw ore. There’s a Combining Factory for it as well. The
Osmium Compressor is the other two-input machine from this part of the mod, and it’s a lot more useful.
FAQ
It combines 8 raw ore with
Cobblestone to make an ore block, and it does the same with gem dusts like
Diamond Dust and
Lapis Lazuli Dust. It’s also used for mixing dyes, waxing Copper and making
Obsidian from
Obsidian Dust, so it’s more of a utility machine.
The Combiner isn’t a part of any ore processing tier, and adding one to a line will lower your output. Tripling is done by the
Purification Chamber and quadrupling by the
Chemical Injection Chamber, and both of those take raw ore directly without it being rebuilt first.
The recipe is simply set higher for Copper, at 20
Raw Copper and a Cobblestone for one
Copper Ore. The other six metals all use 8 raw ore for each ore block, either with Cobblestone for the stone version or with
Cobbled Deepslate for the deepslate one.
It needs a
Steel Casing, 4
Reinforced Alloys, 2
Elite Control Circuits and 2 Cobblestone. The alloys and circuits both use
Diamond, which is infused in a
Metallurgic Infuser, so it’s a mid-game machine even though its recipes are simple.
