Alloys and Control Circuits

Alloys and Control Circuits are the Mekanism crafting parts that set the tier of everything else, and all of them come out of the Metallurgic Infuser. An Infused Alloy is a Copper Ingot with 10 mB of Redstone, a Reinforced Alloy adds 20 mB of Diamond to that, and an Atomic Alloy adds 40 mB of Refined Obsidian. The Basic Control Circuit is an Osmium Ingot with 20 mB of Redstone, and each higher circuit is the one below it crafted between two alloys of its tier, or infused again for three times the material. Alloys also upgrade placed cables, pipes, tubes and transporters, with one alloy lifting up to eight connected pieces by a tier.

Alloys and Control Circuits are the two crafting parts that every tier of Mekanism is built from, and both of them are made in the Metallurgic Infuser. There are three alloys, which are the Infused, Reinforced and Atomic Alloy, and each one is made by infusing the one before it with something rarer.

The four circuits work the same way, as each of them is an upgrade of the last one, starting from an Osmium Ingot and some Redstone. You’ll need an alloy and a circuit of the matching tier for almost anything that comes in Basic, Advanced, Elite and Ultimate versions.

How to Get It

Infused, Reinforced and Atomic Alloy

An Infused Alloy is a Copper Ingot infused with 10 mB of Redstone, which is what one Redstone Dust gives in the Metallurgic Infuser. It used to take an Iron Ingot on 1.20.1, so you might see that in older guides, but the recipe only accepts Copper now.

The Reinforced Alloy is an Infused Alloy with 20 mB of Diamond added to it, and the Atomic Alloy is a Reinforced Alloy with 40 mB of Refined Obsidian. That means every Atomic Alloy has been through the Infuser three times, and the Diamond and Refined Obsidian are what make the last two expensive.

The Refined Obsidian for the last one goes in as Refined Obsidian Dust, which is made from Obsidian Dust and Diamond in the same machine. You’ll find that chain on the Refined Obsidian page, and it’s worth setting up early, as the dust is used for the Ultimate circuits as well.

Enriched Redstone and Enriched Diamond

Putting a Redstone Dust through an Enrichment Chamber will turn it into an Enriched Redstone, which is worth 80 mB in the Infuser instead of 10 mB. A Diamond becomes an Enriched Diamond in the same way, and that’s the only sensible way to use Diamonds here.

Otherwise, a Diamond has to be crushed into Diamond Dust before the infusion slot will take it, and the dust is only worth 10 mB. That isn’t even enough for one Reinforced Alloy, so you’d need two Diamonds for each alloy, whereas an Enriched Diamond will make four of them.

Control Circuits

The Basic Control Circuit is an Osmium Ingot infused with 20 mB of Redstone, and it’s the only one without a Crafting Table recipe. You’ll need two of them for each of the early machines, like the Enrichment Chamber and the Crusher, so it’s one of the first things to make.

After that, each circuit is crafted by putting the one below it between two alloys of its tier, in a row of three. So an Advanced Control Circuit is a Basic one with an Infused Alloy on each side, the Elite Control Circuit uses Reinforced Alloys, and the Ultimate Control Circuit uses Atomic Alloys.

How to Use It

What Each Tier Unlocks

Anything with tiers follows the same pattern, and for the factories and Tier Installers that means four alloys and two circuits of the tier you’re moving up to. The Energy Cubes, tanks and Bins are upgraded with the same alloys as well, though they don’t all need the circuits. The Basic tier uses plain Redstone Dust in the alloy slots, as there isn’t a Basic alloy.

Alloys and circuits by tier
Tier Alloy Circuit Some of What Needs Them
BasicRedstone DustBasic Control CircuitEnrichment Chamber, Crusher, Energized Smelter, Basic Energy Cube
AdvancedInfused AlloyAdvanced Control CircuitOsmium Compressor, Purification Chamber, Energy Tablet, Speed and Energy Upgrades
EliteReinforced AlloyElite Control CircuitChemical Injection Chamber, Combiner, Solar Neutron Activator, Laser
UltimateAtomic AlloyUltimate Control CircuitChemical Dissolution Chamber, Digital Miner, Teleportation Core, MekaSuit

Infused Alloys are the ones you’ll go through the fastest, as they’re in the Energy Tablet, the Electrolytic Core and most of the upgrades. The Reinforced and Atomic ones are mostly needed in fours, for factories and for the modules that go into the Meka-Tool and the MekaSuit.

Upgrading Cables and Pipes in Place

The alloys have a second use, which is that you’re able to right-click one onto a cable, pipe, tube or transporter that’s already been placed. It’ll upgrade up to eight connected pieces to the next tier, starting with the ones closest to where you clicked, and it only uses up the one alloy.

Each alloy only works on the tier just below it, so an Infused Alloy will turn Basic pieces into Advanced ones, a Reinforced Alloy turns those into Elite, and an Atomic Alloy makes them Ultimate. That’s a lot cheaper than crafting them, and you won’t have to break anything, which matters on a long run of Universal Cable.

Crafting or Infusing a Circuit

There’s a second way to make the three higher circuits, which is to put the circuit below it straight into the Infuser, without using any alloys. It doesn’t cost the same though, as the Infuser route takes three times as much of the rare substance as crafting does, and it isn’t in the 1.20.1 version of the mod at all.

Cost of each circuit by route
Circuit Crafting Table Metallurgic Infuser
Advanced Control CircuitBasic circuit + 2 Infused Alloys (2 Copper Ingots, 20 mB Redstone)Basic circuit + 60 mB Redstone
Elite Control CircuitAdvanced circuit + 2 Reinforced Alloys (40 mB Diamond)Advanced circuit + 120 mB Diamond
Ultimate Control CircuitElite circuit + 2 Atomic Alloys (80 mB Refined Obsidian)Elite circuit + 240 mB Refined Obsidian

For the Advanced circuit, the Infuser is usually the easier one, as Redstone is cheap and you’ll save two Copper Ingots. For the Elite and Ultimate ones it’s the other way round, as crafting an Elite circuit uses half of an Enriched Diamond, whereas infusing it would take one and a half of them.

The Infuser route is still handy once everything is automated, as it’s a single machine with one item going in and one coming out. Otherwise, you’ll want to craft them, and the first thing to spend your circuits on is the ore machines on the Ore Processing page.

FAQ

How do you make Infused Alloy in Mekanism?
›

Infused Alloy is made in the Metallurgic Infuser, from a Copper Ingot and 10 mB of Redstone, which is a single Redstone Dust in the infusion slot. On older versions of the mod it took an Iron Ingot instead, so it’ll depend on which one your pack is using. An Enriched Redstone will make eight of them.

Is there a Basic Alloy in Mekanism?
›

There are only three alloys, which are the Infused, Reinforced and Atomic Alloy. When a Basic recipe has an alloy slot in it, like the Enrichment Chamber or the Basic Energy Cube, it’s asking for normal Redstone Dust, so you won’t need to make anything in the Infuser for those.

How do you make an Ultimate Control Circuit?
›

You’ll craft it by putting an Elite Control Circuit between two Atomic Alloys, in a row on the Crafting Table. The Metallurgic Infuser is able to make one as well, from an Elite circuit and 240 mB of Refined Obsidian, but that’s three Enriched Obsidian, which is three times as much as the alloys would’ve needed.

Can you upgrade Mekanism cables without breaking them?
›

Right-clicking an alloy on a placed cable will upgrade it and up to seven more that are connected to it, and it only uses one alloy. It works on pipes, tubes, transporters and conductors as well, though each alloy only moves them up by one tier, like an Infused Alloy taking Basic ones to Advanced.
