Farmer’s Delight adds its own items to a lot of the chests you’ll find while exploring, from village houses all the way to End Cities, and it changes villages too. Its crops show up in village farms, new compost heaps can generate between the houses, and Farmers will trade for
Onions,
Tomatoes,
Cabbage and
Rice.
This is often the quickest way to get started with the mod, as a village chest might give you seeds before you’ve found any Wild Crops. Everything here is added on top of the vanilla loot, so you’ll still find the same items as normal, with the Farmer’s Delight ones mixed in as well.
Chest Loot
The mod adds its own roll to a long list of vanilla chests, and each one has its own set of items, so it’s worth knowing which structures are worth checking. Village houses are the most reliable for seeds, whereas the Knives come from the more dangerous places, like Bastions and End Cities.
| Chest | Farmer’s Delight Items |
|---|---|
| Village houses (all 5 types) | Two of: Cabbage Seeds, Tomato Seeds, Onion, Rice |
| Village Butcher | Flint or Iron Knife, Ham, Minced Beef, Raw Bacon, Raw Mutton Chops |
| Abandoned Mineshaft | Cooking Pot, Skillet, Cabbage Seeds, Tomato Seeds, Rice, Rope |
| Dungeon | Cabbage Seeds, Tomato Seeds, Rope |
| Shipwreck (supply) | Cabbage Seeds, Tomato Seeds, Onion, Rice, Rope |
| Pillager Outpost | Onion, Onion Crate |
| Ruined Portal | Golden Knife (enchanted) |
| Bastion Hoglin Stable | Diamond or Golden Knife (enchanted), Ham, Smoked Ham |
| Bastion Treasure | Diamond Knife |
| End City | Diamond or Iron Knife (enchanted) |
The village house chests are the easy ones, as every house chest will have at least one of its two seeds, and about a 70% chance of each. Plains houses give
Onions and
Tomato Seeds, Snowy houses give Onions and
Cabbage Seeds, and the other three biomes each have their own pair.
Abandoned Mineshafts
Mineshaft chests are the only place you’ll find the mod’s cooking blocks lying around, with a
Cooking Pot or a
Skillet turning up in about one chest in eight each. That saves you a lot of Iron early on, as the Cooking Pot normally takes 5
Iron Ingots and a
Water Bucket to craft.
The Skillet from a Mineshaft will always be damaged, so it’s worth repairing it before relying on it as a weapon. The
Rope is the most common find here, and since a chest can roll it more than once, you’ll often come away with a decent stack for climbing.
Bastion Remnants
The Hoglin Stable chests in a Bastion are the best place to find
Ham without hunting, as most of them will have a few. You’ll often find an enchanted
Golden Knife or
Diamond Knife in the same chest, and those can come with Backstabbing or Looting already on them.
The Diamond Knife from a Hoglin Stable always comes worn down, whereas the Bastion Treasure room has a chance of an undamaged one. The End City Knives are the strongest enchanted ones you’ll find, as they’re enchanted at a high level, a bit like the gear in the vanilla chests there.
All of this chest loot is controlled by one setting in the mod’s config, which is on by default. If you’re playing a modpack and never see any of these items, the pack might have switched it off.
Villages
Villages get a new building called a compost heap, which can generate in Plains, Snowy, Savanna, Desert and Taiga villages. Each one is a small yard with a few piles of
Organic Compost and some
Rich Soil already in place, so it’s a great place to grab both before you’re able to make them yourself.

Some of them have crops growing too, as the Savanna heap has
Cabbages and
Tomatoes, the Snowy one has
Onions and
Potatoes, and the Taiga one has a
Brown Mushroom Colony. The Organic Compost will slowly turn into Rich Soil if you leave it there, which you can read more about on the Organic Compost page.
Village Farms
The farm plots in villages will also have some of their
Wheat swapped for the mod’s crops when the village generates. Plains and Taiga farms can have Cabbages, Tomatoes and Onions, Desert and Savanna farms get Cabbages and Tomatoes, and Snowy farms get Cabbages and Onions, which replace some of the Potatoes there too.
These crops are freshly planted, so you’ll need to wait for them to grow or use
Bone Meal before harvesting. It’s still one of the fastest ways to get every crop at once, as one village can give you enough seeds to start a full farm of your own.
Farmer Villagers treat
Rich Soil Farmland the same as normal
Farmland, so they’ll keep working a village farm even after you’ve upgraded it.
Cabbage Seeds,
Tomato Seeds and Onions are on the list of things they’re able to plant as well.
Trades
Novice and Apprentice Farmers can offer to buy the mod’s crops for
Emeralds, which is a handy way to turn a big harvest into money. These are added to the Farmer’s usual pool of trades, so not every Farmer will have them, and you might need to check a few, or reroll one by breaking its
Composter before you’ve traded with it.
The Wandering Trader can sell
Cabbage Seeds,
Tomato Seeds,
Rice and
Onions for 1 Emerald each. Each of these can only be bought once per trader, but it’s a cheap way to get a crop you haven’t found in the wild yet.
Both sets of trades can be turned off in the mod’s config, like the chest loot. They’re on by default though, so in a normal game you’ll see them without changing anything, as long as the modpack you’re playing hasn’t switched them off.
Mob Drops
Zombies, Husks and Zombie Villagers have a small chance of dropping an
Onion when you kill them, and so do Pillagers, Vindicators and Evokers. It’s a 2% chance normally, and each level of Looting adds another 1%, so a Looting III weapon gives you a 5% chance.
The mob has to be killed by a player for the Onion to drop, so a mob farm that kills them on its own won’t collect any. If you need meat cuts from animals instead, like
Ham from Pigs and Hoglins, those come from killing them with a
Knife.
FAQ
Village house chests are the most reliable, as every one of them will have seeds or
Onions, and Mineshaft chests can hold a
Cooking Pot or a
Skillet. Knives turn up in Village Butchers, Ruined Portals, Bastions and End Cities, and Bastion Hoglin Stables are full of
Ham.
They do, as some of the
Wheat in village farms is swapped for
Cabbages,
Tomatoes and Onions when the village generates. Villages can also have a compost heap with
Organic Compost,
Rich Soil and sometimes more crops, depending on the biome.
Novice Farmers can buy 26 Onions or 26 Tomatoes for an
Emerald, and Apprentice Farmers can buy 16 Cabbages or 20
Rice. The Wandering Trader sells
Cabbage Seeds,
Tomato Seeds, Rice and Onions for 1 Emerald each as well.
Zombies, Husks and Zombie Villagers have a 2% chance of dropping an Onion, and Pillagers, Vindicators and Evokers can drop one too. Looting adds 1% per level, and the mob needs to be killed by a player for it to drop.
