Cut Meat and Fish are the smaller pieces of meat from the Farmer’s Delight mod, which you’ll get by cutting vanilla meat and fish on a
Cutting Board with a
Knife. There are five of them,
Raw Bacon,
Raw Chicken Cuts,
Raw Cod Slices,
Raw Salmon Slices and
Raw Mutton Chops, and each one has a cooked version as well.
Every whole piece will give you 2 cuts, and the cuts are quick to eat, at half the time of normal food. They’re also used in a lot of the mod’s recipes, and since a single cut counts as a whole piece of meat in most of them, cutting your meat first is an easy way to get twice as many meals out of the same animals.
Cutting Meat and Fish

To cut something, you’ll place it on a
Cutting Board and then right-click the board with a Knife in your hand, and the pieces will pop out on top. Chicken and fish will also give you a
Bone Meal each time, whereas Pork and Mutton only give the cuts, and you’re able to cut meat that’s already been cooked too.
A
Raw Porkchop turns into 2 Raw Bacon and a
Raw Chicken into 2 Raw Chicken Cuts and a Bone Meal, whereas
Raw Mutton will only give you the 2 chops. Fish work the same way as Chicken, as every
Raw Cod or
Raw Salmon gives 2 slices and a Bone Meal, and you’ll get cooked slices instead if the fish was cooked before it went on the board.
There’s no recipe for cutting a
Cooked Porkchop, so if you want
Cooked Bacon, you’ll need to cut the Porkchop raw and then cook the bacon. Beef works differently as well, as
Raw Beef turns into
Minced Beef instead, which is on the Ingredients page along with the
Beef Patty.
If you put a Knife in a
Dispenser that’s facing a Cutting Board, the Dispenser will use it to cut whatever is on the board for you. It’s worth setting up if you’ve got a whole stack of meat to get through at once.
Cooking the Cuts
Every raw cut can be cooked the same way as the meat it came from, in a
Furnace, a
Smoker or on a
Campfire. They’ll cook on a
Skillet or a
Stove as well, and the Smoker is the fastest of the vanilla options, at half the time a Furnace takes.
You’ll get the same 2 cooked pieces whether you cut the meat first or cook it first. It’s quicker to cook it first though, as it takes a Furnace just as long to cook one slice as it does to cook a whole fish, so cooking the fish and then cutting it into
Cooked Salmon Slices will only use half the fuel.
The cooked cuts are what most of the crafted meals want, like Cooked Bacon for the
Bacon Sandwich and
Bacon and Eggs, or
Cooked Mutton Chops for
Roasted Mutton Chops, which won’t take a whole
Cooked Mutton. The raw slices are used for the
Salmon Roll and
Cod Roll instead, so keep a few of those raw.
Why Cut Your Meat
Two cooked cuts will restore the same hunger and saturation as the whole piece they came from, so you don’t lose anything by cutting. Cod is the one exception, as 2 Cooked Cod Slices give 6 hunger whereas a whole
Cooked Cod only gives 5, so it’s slightly better to cut it.
Using Cuts in Recipes
The bigger reason to cut your meat is for recipes, as most Farmer’s Delight recipes will take any raw chicken or any cooked mutton, rather than asking for a whole piece. So a single
Raw Chicken Cut is able to make a
Chicken Soup just as well as a whole Raw Chicken would, which means you’ll get twice as many Soups and Stews and sandwiches from the same animals.
Cuts are also eaten in half the time, which helps a lot when you need to eat in the middle of a fight. The only downside is that each piece restores less, so you’ll be eating more often, though they stack to 64 the same as whole meat.
Effects
None of the cuts give an effect, apart from Raw Chicken Cuts, which have the same 30% chance to give you Hunger as
Raw Chicken does. Hunger is shown in points, where 2 points is one shank on your hunger bar, and all ten are quick to eat.
Cut Meat and Fish
These are the same on 1.20.1 and 1.21.1. Cooked Bacon is the most filling of the cuts at 4 hunger, and 2 of them add up to the 8 hunger of a
Cooked Porkchop, whereas the raw cuts are hardly worth eating at all until they’ve been cooked.
Best Picks
Cooked Bacon is the most filling cut, and it’s the one you’ll need for the
Bacon Sandwich and
Bacon and Eggs, so it’s worth cutting every Porkchop you get. Cod is the only fish that gives you more food when it’s cut, as 2 Cooked Cod Slices restore 6 hunger whereas the whole fish only gives 5.
Chicken is worth cutting for the
Bone Meal alone, as each
Raw Chicken will give you one alongside the cuts, which goes straight back into your crops. Mutton Chops are mostly needed for
Roasted Mutton Chops, so it’s worth keeping a few cooked ones in your kitchen chest for that.
FAQ
Raw Bacon comes from cutting a
Raw Porkchop on a
Cutting Board with a Knife, which gives you 2 of it. You’ll need to cook it in a
Furnace,
Smoker or
Campfire to get Cooked Bacon, as there’s no recipe for cutting a
Cooked Porkchop.
Put a
Raw Chicken or a
Cooked Chicken on a Cutting Board and right-click it with any Knife. You’ll get 2 Chicken Cuts and a
Bone Meal, and the raw ones can be cooked afterwards if you cut them raw.
It’s worth doing, as you won’t lose any food by cutting it, since 2 cooked cuts will restore the same as the whole piece, and Cod will even give you a little more. Most recipes will take a single cut in place of a whole piece as well, so you’ll be able to make twice as many meals.
Cooked Mutton Chops are needed for
Roasted Mutton Chops, and they’ll also work in place of
Cooked Mutton in the
Mutton Wrap and
Shepherd’s Pie. The raw ones count as
Raw Mutton too, like in
Pasta with Mutton Chop.
