Ham is a food item from the Farmer’s Delight mod that you’ll get by killing Pigs and Hoglins while holding a Knife, and it can be cooked into
Smoked Ham in a
Smoker. You won’t find it any other way apart from a few chests, as there’s no crafting recipe for it.
Smoked Ham is the main reason you’ll want it, as it’s the one ingredient in the
Honey Glazed Ham Feast that you can’t farm. It’s a filling food on its own as well, so any spare ones you collect won’t go to waste.
How to Get It

Ham only drops when the killing blow comes from a Knife in your main hand, and any Knife works, from the
Flint Knife up to the
Netherite Knife. It’s dropped on top of the mob’s normal loot, so a Pig will still give you its usual Porkchops as well.
From Pigs and Hoglins
A Pig has a 50% chance of dropping a Ham, and Looting on the Knife will add another 10% for each level. Hoglins are a lot more reliable, as every Hoglin killed with a Knife will drop one, so a Hoglin farm in the Nether is the fastest way to get a stack of them.
| Mob | No Looting | Looting I | Looting II | Looting III |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pig | 50% | 60% | 70% | 80% |
| Hoglin | 100% | 100% | 100% | 100% |
If the Pig or Hoglin is on fire when it dies, it will drop Smoked Ham instead, at the same chance. A Knife with Fire Aspect will set them alight as you hit them, which means you’ll skip the
Smoker altogether and get the cooked version straight away.
Knives can take Fire Aspect and Looting at an
Enchanting Table, the same as a Sword. A Fire Aspect Knife on Hoglins will give you a Smoked Ham from every kill, which is everything you’ll need for a
Honey Glazed Ham.
If you’re playing with My Nether’s Delight as well, Hoglins will drop
Hoglin Loin in place of their
Raw Porkchop. The add-on uses Ham in its
Stuffed Hoglin feast too, so it’s worth keeping a few spare once you’ve got a Hoglin farm going.
From Chests
Ham can also turn up in chests, though it’s not something to rely on. You might find a single Ham in a Butcher’s chest in Villages, and the Hoglin Stable in a Bastion Remnant can have a few of both Ham and Smoked Ham.
The first chance is for a Butcher’s chest, while the other two are for the Hoglin Stable chests in a Bastion. Those also hold a
Golden Knife or a
Diamond Knife fairly often, so they’re worth checking if you’re in the Nether looking for Hoglins anyway.
Smoked Ham
Ham can only be cooked in a
Smoker, as there’s no recipe for a
Furnace, a
Campfire or a
Skillet. It takes 10 seconds, which is twice as long as other meat in a Smoker, and each Ham gives you one Smoked Ham.
Smoked Ham doubles the hunger Ham gives you and makes it last a lot longer, so it’s always worth cooking. The only real use for raw Ham apart from cooking it is cutting it on a
Cutting Board, which gives you
Raw Porkchops.
Uses
The
Honey Glazed Ham is the only crafting recipe that uses Smoked Ham. It’s crafted from a Smoked Ham, 4
Sweet Berries, a
Honey Bottle, 2
Cooked Rice and a
Bowl, and you’ll get the Bowls from the Cooked Rice back when you craft it.
Once it’s placed, you’ll be able to take 4 Plates of Honey Glazed Ham from it with a Bowl each. Every plate fills 14 hunger and gives 5 minutes of Nourishment, and the Feast leaves a Bowl and a Bone behind when it’s finished.
Cutting Board
Putting either Ham on a
Cutting Board and using a Knife on it will break it down into Porkchops and a
Bone, which is handy if you’d rather have smaller pieces. Both Ham and Smoked Ham count as meat too, so you’re able to feed them to a tamed Wolf.
| Item | Result |
|---|---|
| Ham | 2 Raw Porkchop, 1 Bone |
| Smoked Ham | 2 Cooked Porkchop, 1 Bone |
The Bone is useful as well, as it can go into
Bone Broth or be crafted into
Bone Meal for your crops. If you’ve got a lot of ham to cut, a
Dispenser holding a Knife and facing the board is able to do the cutting for you.
Effects
Neither Ham gives an effect when you eat it, so they’re plain food rather than a meal, and raw Ham is safe to eat, as it won’t give you Hunger the way
Raw Chicken can. Smoked Ham fills more than a
Steak does, whereas the
Honey Glazed Ham you make from it adds Nourishment on top.
Ham Food Values
Ham and Smoked Ham both stack to 64, as they aren’t served in a
Bowl, which makes Smoked Ham easier to carry around than the meals that only stack to 16. It’s a handy food to keep on your hotbar while you’re out exploring, before you’ve got a
Cooking Pot going.
Best Picks
If you’re only after food, cutting a Smoked Ham gives you more than eating it, as the 2
Cooked Porkchops fill 16 hunger between them against the 10 from the ham itself. You get a
Bone on top of that, so it’s worth cutting any spares you won’t need for anything else.
Keep one Smoked Ham back for each
Honey Glazed Ham you’d like to make though, as that Feast turns a single ham into 4 plates of 14 hunger with Nourishment. That’s the most food you’re able to get out of one Ham, which makes it the main thing to save them for once you’ve got
Rice and
Sweet Berries growing.
FAQ
Ham only drops if the hit that kills the Pig comes from a Knife in your main hand, so a Sword, an Axe or a Knife in your offhand won’t work. A Pig that burns to death after a Fire Aspect hit won’t drop one either, as the fire gets the kill rather than you, and even when everything’s right it’s only a 50% chance without Looting.
A Hoglin killed with a Knife will always drop exactly one Ham, so Looting won’t add any more on top. It still raises the vanilla Porkchop and
Leather drops from the Hoglin though, and on Pigs it’s what pushes the Ham chance from 50% up to 80% at Looting III.
Only Pigs and Hoglins drop Ham, so a Zoglin won’t give you one even though it looks like a Hoglin, and Piglins never drop it either. If a Hoglin wanders into the Overworld and turns into a Zoglin, you’ll lose the Ham, so it’s worth killing them in the Nether.
Hoglins spawn in Crimson Forests in the Nether, and you’ll also find a few penned up in the Hoglin Stable part of a Bastion Remnant. They’re hostile and hit hard, so a Knife with Looting and Fire Aspect, plus some decent armor, will make farming them a lot easier.
