Ocean's Delight

Ocean’s Delight is a Farmer’s Delight add-on that turns the mobs of the sea into food, so things like Guardians, Squid and Pufferfish will all become ingredients once it’s installed. You’ll be using the Cooking Pot, the Cutting Board and a Knife for nearly all of it, so it feels like an extra chapter of the base mod rather than something separate.

It’s a small add-on, with a couple of dozen foods and no new blocks apart from one feast, and it doesn’t add any new mobs or world generation either. Everything comes from mobs and plants that are already in the ocean, which means you’ll get the most out of it once you’re able to take on an Ocean Monument.

What It Adds

Most of the food comes from four sea creatures, and each one gives you something different to work with. Guardians will drop a whole Guardian that you can cook into a soup, Elder Guardians drop a big Slab of Elder Guardian that’s cut up into slices, Squid give you Tentacles, and a Pufferfish can be cut into Fugu Slices that won’t poison you.

There are a few dishes made from plain ocean plants as well, like Braised Sea Pickle, Honey Fried Kelp and Seagrass Salad. These mean you’re able to start cooking with it before you’ve fought anything.

You’ll be able to eat most of these straight away, but the raw cuts are better cooked first, as a couple of them will give you a bad effect if you eat them as they are. The table shows which ones those are, so it’s worth checking it before you eat anything raw.

How It Works With Farmer’s Delight

Ocean’s Delight needs Farmer’s Delight to be installed, as it uses the base mod for almost every recipe that it has. Most of the meals are made in the Cooking Pot, like the Guardian Soup feast and Squid Rings, and you’ll need the Cutting Board as well, as it’s the only way to break the bigger pieces of meat down into something that you can use.

When it’s done, the Guardian Soup will come out of the pot as a block, just like the base mod’s Feasts. Place it down and use a Bowl on it to take a serving, and you’ll be able to get up to 4 Bowls of soup out of each one.

The rolls and wraps use the base mod’s crops too. A Fugu Roll or Roll of Elder Guardian takes two slices and a Cooked Rice, whereas Cabbage Wrapped Elder Guardian needs a Cabbage or Cabbage Leaf, an Onion and a Tomato, and the Stuffed Cod is even tied up with a piece of Rope.

The two biggest dishes will also give you the Comfort effect, which is worth knowing about, as none of the food in Farmer’s Delight itself will give it to you anymore. The soup gives you 3 minutes of it, whereas the Cabbage Wrapped Elder Guardian only gives 30 seconds, but it’s able to fill you up a lot more.

Getting the Ingredients

Guardians

Every Guardian you kill is going to drop a Guardian item, no matter what you’re holding at the time, so an Ocean Monument or a Guardian farm will give you plenty of them.

If you cut one up on the Cutting Board you’ll get a Guardian Tail and a Bone Meal, though it’s the whole Guardian that you need for the soup.

Elder Guardians and Squid

Elder Guardians and Squid are different, as they only drop their food when you kill them with a Knife like the Iron Knife in your main hand. An Elder Guardian killed this way drops a Slab of Elder Guardian, which cuts into 9 slices, and a Squid drops Tentacles, which cut into 3 Cut Tentacles.

Away from the mobs, the plant dishes are much easier, as they only need things you’ll find around any warm ocean, like a Sea Pickle or some Seagrass. Remember, you’ll need to use Shears to pick up Seagrass, as it won’t drop anything at all if you just break it by hand.

Best Picks

Cabbage Wrapped Elder Guardian is the most filling food in the add-on, and since one Elder Guardian is able to make 9 of them, it’s worth the trip. There are only 3 Elder Guardians in each Ocean Monument though, so you’ll want to make sure you’re holding a Knife when you kill every one of them.

For something you can make all the time, the Bowl of Guardian Soup is the one to aim for, as it gives you Comfort as well as 15 hunger. The Fugu Roll is a good early pick too, since it turns the Pufferfish that you’d usually throw away into something that’s safe to eat, and it doesn’t need the Cooking Pot at all.

Versions

Ocean’s Delight is available on Forge, NeoForge and Fabric, and the newer Fabric builds are made to work with Farmer’s Delight Refabricated, which is the Fabric port of the base mod. This page was checked against the 1.20.1 Forge version, as it’s the one that most players are still using by a long way.

The newest NeoForge build has three extra foods that you won’t find in the older one, as it adds a Stuffed Squid that you’re able to cook into a Cooked Stuffed Squid, and a Kelp Encrusted Cod as well.
