Farmer’s Delight is a farming and cooking mod for Minecraft, and getting started with it means finding a few new crops, making a
Knife and then building a small kitchen around a
Cooking Pot. Most of what you’ll need early on is vanilla, like
Flint, Planks,
Bricks and Iron, so you’re able to start on your first day.
The order below is the one most players will meet things in, from the first wild plants up to a Feast that feeds four people. Each step links to its own page if you want the details, and the Recipes page lists every dish in the mod in one place.
Finding Wild Crops
The mod adds four new crops, which are
Cabbage,
Tomatoes,
Onions and
Rice, and you’ll find them growing wild as Wild Crops while you explore. There are wild versions of
Carrots,
Potatoes and
Beetroot as well, which is handy if you haven’t found any in a village yet.

Each one grows in its own kind of biome, as
Wild Cabbage and
Sea Beet grow on beaches,
Wild Onions and
Wild Carrots grow in temperate biomes like Plains and Forests, and
Wild Potatoes prefer cold biomes.
Tomato Shrubs grow in hot, dry biomes like Savannas, whereas
Wild Rice grows in the water of wet biomes like Swamps.

Breaking a Wild Crop gives you what you need to farm it, like
Cabbage Seeds from Wild Cabbage or an Onion from a Wild Onion, and sometimes the crop itself as well. If you can’t find them, village house chests always have some of the mod’s seeds in them, which you can read about on the Villages and Loot page.
Making a Knife
One of the first items you’ll want to craft is a Knife, and the
Flint Knife only takes a piece of
Flint and a
Stick. You can make one from Iron, Gold or
Diamond the same way later on, and a
Diamond Knife can be upgraded to a
Netherite Knife at a
Smithing Table.
A Knife isn’t the best weapon, but it’s the tool the whole mod is built around. Cutting grass with it will sometimes give you
Straw, and harvesting fully grown
Wheat or
Rice with it always does, which you’ll need for
Rope,
Canvas and compost later on.
Killing animals with a Knife in your hand will give you extra drops too, like
Ham from Pigs half of the time, and an extra
Leather from Cows. It’s also able to take the Backstabbing enchantment, which adds up to 80% more damage when you hit something from behind, and there’s more on every tier on the Knives page.
The Cutting Board
The
Cutting Board is the next thing to make, from 4
Planks and 2
Sticks. Place an item on it by right-clicking, then right-click again with a Knife, and it will be cut up into smaller pieces that pop out on top of the board.

This is how you’ll get most of the smaller ingredients, like a
Cabbage Leaf from a
Cabbage,
Pumpkin Slices from a
Pumpkin and
Minced Beef from
Raw Beef. Other tools work on it as well, so an Axe on a Log will give you a Stripped Log and
Tree Bark, which is used for compost.
Raw meat cut on the board turns into two smaller cuts, like 2
Raw Bacon from one
Raw Porkchop. Those cook faster and go into a lot of the sandwiches and plates, so it’s worth cutting up a few before you start cooking.
Cooking Pot and Stove
The
Cooking Pot is where most of the mod’s meals are made, and you’ll craft it from 5
Iron Ingots, 2
Bricks, a
Water Bucket and a
Wooden Shovel. It needs heat underneath it to cook, and a normal Campfire is enough, so you don’t need anything fancy to get going.
It has 6 slots for ingredients and one for the container, which is usually a
Bowl. A good first meal is
Beef Stew, as it only needs
Raw Beef, a
Carrot and a
Potato, and it fills 6 shanks of hunger and gives you 3 minutes of Nourishment, which stops your hunger from going down at all.
Upgrading to a Stove
Once you have the Iron to spare, the
Stove makes a better heat source, and it’s crafted from 3 Iron Ingots, 4
Bricks and a
Campfire. It can cook six items on its top at once like a Campfire, and it heats a Cooking Pot or a
Skillet placed on it, which is why most kitchens are built around one.

Magma Blocks, Lava and Fire will heat a pot as well, and a
Hopper placed between the pot and the heat will still let the heat through. All of this is covered on the Cooking Pot and Stove pages, along with how to automate them.
Rich Soil
Once your farm is going, the next upgrade is
Rich Soil, which makes plants grow faster. You’ll start by crafting
Organic Compost from
Dirt, 2
Straw, 4
Bone Meal and 2
Rotten Flesh, or from Dirt, 2 Straw, 2 Bone Meal and 4
Tree Bark if you’d rather keep your Rotten Flesh.
Place the Organic Compost down and leave it, and it will slowly turn into Rich Soil on its own. It goes much faster in sunlight and next to water, and blocks like Mushrooms,
Mycelium and
Podzol next to it will speed it up even more, so a compost pile beside a pond is a good setup.
Rich Soil Farmland
Rich Soil tilled with a Hoe becomes
Rich Soil Farmland, and while it’s watered, crops planted on it have a chance of being boosted as if you’d used Bone Meal on them. Mushrooms planted on Rich Soil grow into Mushroom Colonies, and the Rich Soil page has the rest of what it does.
Your First Feast
Feasts are big meals that you place down as a block and share, and the easiest one to start with is the
Roast Chicken. It’s crafted from
Cooked Chicken, 2 Baked
Potatoes, 2
Carrots, an
Onion, an
Egg,
Bread and a
Bowl, so you’ll want your Onion farm going before you try it.

Place it down and right-click it with a Bowl to take a
Plate of Roast Chicken, and you’ll get four servings out of each one. Every serving fills 7 shanks and gives 5 minutes of Nourishment, which makes a single Feast enough food for a long trip or a whole group of friends.
The other Feasts work the same way, like
Honey Glazed Ham,
Shepherd’s Pie and the
Stuffed Pumpkin, which is cooked in the
Cooking Pot with a
Pumpkin as its container. From here, pages like Soups and Stews and Pasta and Rice Dishes have every other meal to work toward.
Once you’ve cooked your way through the base mod, there are add-ons that build on it with new crops, dimensions and machines, like Ocean’s Delight for seafood and Create Slice & Dice for automating the kitchen. The Farmer’s Delight Add-ons page has the full list, along with which Minecraft versions each one supports.
FAQ
Start by finding Wild Crops and crafting a
Flint Knife, then make a
Cutting Board and a
Cooking Pot with a
Campfire under it. From there you’re able to cook meals that give Nourishment, upgrade your farm with
Rich Soil and work up to Feasts that feed four people each.
Break grass with a Knife in your hand and you’ll sometimes get Straw, or harvest fully grown
Wheat or
Rice with a Knife to get one every time. Putting
Bamboo Blocks on a Cutting Board with an Axe gives Straw as well, as long as you’ve got some Bamboo nearby.
Place 2 Straw on top of each other in a
Crafting Table and you’ll get 4
Rope. Rope can be climbed like a
Ladder and you’re able to hang it down from a ledge, and 4 Rope will make a
Safety Net, which stops fall damage when you land on it, unless you’re sneaking.
