Nourishment is a status effect from the Farmer’s Delight mod that stops your hunger bar from going down while it lasts. You’ll get it from most of the bigger meals in the mod, like
Beef Stew and
Steak and Potatoes, and it can last anywhere from 30 seconds up to 5 minutes depending on what you ate.
While it’s active you’re able to sprint, jump, mine and fight without losing any hunger, and the only thing that still uses up your saturation is healing. You won’t see an icon or any particles for it, as the effect shows up as a gold overlay on your hunger bar instead.
How to Get It
Every meal that gives Nourishment is made in a
Cooking Pot, crafted with a
Bowl, or served from one of the Feasts, and they always give it, so there’s no chance involved. The smaller dishes give a short burst, whereas the meals that fill 7 shanks of hunger mostly give the full 5 minutes.
| Food | Hunger | Nourishment |
|---|---|---|
| Cooked Rice | 6 | 30 seconds |
| Bone Broth | 8 | 1 minute |
| Bacon and Eggs | 10 | 1 minute |
| Ratatouille | 10 | 1 minute |
| Beef Stew | 12 | 3 minutes |
| Vegetable Soup | 12 | 3 minutes |
| Fish Stew | 12 | 3 minutes |
| Onion Soup | 12 | 3 minutes |
| Chicken Soup | 12 | 3 minutes |
| Fried Rice | 12 | 3 minutes |
| Steak and Potatoes | 12 | 3 minutes |
| Pasta with Meatballs | 12 | 3 minutes |
| Pasta with Mutton Chop | 12 | 3 minutes |
| Mushroom Rice | 12 | 3 minutes |
| Grilled Salmon | 14 | 3 minutes |
| Pumpkin Soup | 14 | 5 minutes |
| Baked Cod Stew | 14 | 5 minutes |
| Noodle Soup | 14 | 5 minutes |
| Roasted Mutton Chops | 14 | 5 minutes |
| Vegetable Noodles | 14 | 5 minutes |
| Squid Ink Pasta | 14 | 5 minutes |
| Plate of Roast Chicken | 14 | 5 minutes |
| Bowl of Stuffed Pumpkin | 14 | 5 minutes |
| Plate of Honey Glazed Ham | 14 | 5 minutes |
| Plate of Shepherd’s Pie | 14 | 5 minutes |
| Bowl of Gleaming Salad | 14 | 5 minutes |
The Hunger column is in hunger points, so 14 is 7 full shanks.
Grilled Salmon is the odd one out, as it fills as much as the 5 minute meals but only gives 3 minutes, so it’s worth picking something like
Roasted Mutton Chops or a
Pumpkin Soup if you want the longest effect.
Vanilla Soups
The mod gives Nourishment to the soups from vanilla Minecraft as well, so
Mushroom Stew and
Beetroot Soup will give you 3 minutes of it.
Rabbit Stew gets the biggest change, as it now fills 14 hunger points and gives 5 minutes, which puts it alongside the best meals in the mod.

Both of these changes are on by default, and they can be turned off in the mod’s config, so a modpack might have them switched off. Vanilla soups also stack up to 16 with the mod installed, the same as Farmer’s Delight’s own meals, which makes them much easier to carry around.
How It Works
Normally every action you take, like sprinting, jumping, swimming and attacking, slowly adds up and drains your saturation and then your hunger. Nourishment wipes that build up away every single tick, so your hunger bar stays exactly where it was when you ate the meal.
The one exception is healing, as the effect steps aside while you’re hurt and still have saturation left, so your health can come back the normal way. That healing will use up saturation like it usually does, but once your saturation is empty, Nourishment takes over again and stops your hunger from dropping any further.
Once your saturation has run out, natural healing doesn’t cost you anything while Nourishment is active. As long as your hunger bar is at 9 shanks or more, you’ll keep slowly getting health back without losing any hunger at all, which is handy after a fight.
It also cancels out the Hunger effect, which you’d normally get from eating
Rotten Flesh or
Raw Chicken, since that effect works by adding to the same build up that Nourishment clears. The effect doesn’t have levels either, so a longer meal only gives you more time, not a stronger version.
Eating While Full
While Nourishment is active you’re able to eat any food, even when your hunger bar is completely full. That means you can top up the effect with another meal before it runs out, or snack on something small without needing to lose any hunger first.
Eating a new Nourishment meal will replace the timer if the new one is longer, the same way vanilla effects work. So a 5 minute meal eaten with 1 minute left will give you a fresh 5 minutes, whereas eating a 30 second
Cooked Rice won’t shorten what you already have.
FAQ
Nourishment stops your hunger bar from going down while it’s active, so sprinting, jumping and fighting won’t use up any hunger. The only thing that still uses saturation is healing, and once that saturation runs out your hunger stays where it is until the effect ends.
The longest Nourishment is 5 minutes, which comes from the feast servings,
Pumpkin Soup,
Baked Cod Stew,
Noodle Soup,
Roasted Mutton Chops,
Vegetable Noodles and
Squid Ink Pasta. Vanilla
Rabbit Stew gives 5 minutes as well with the mod installed.
Nourishment stops your hunger from going down, whereas Comfort heals half a heart every few seconds when your saturation is empty. No food in the current version of the mod gives Comfort though, so Nourishment is the effect you’ll actually see from meals.
You can, as Nourishment lets you eat any food even with a full hunger bar. It’s a handy way to keep the effect going, as eating a longer meal before it runs out will reset the timer, and it works for small snacks like
Sweet Berries too.
