The Cutting Board is a kitchen block from the Farmer’s Delight mod that you’ll use to cut items down into smaller parts, by placing an item on it and right-clicking it with a tool. Most of the time that tool will be a Knife, which turns meat into cuts like
Raw Bacon and
Minced Beef, and it’s where you’ll get
Cabbage Leaf from a
Cabbage.
You can use some other tools on it as well. An Axe will strip a log and give you some
Tree Bark at the same time, and you can use a Pickaxe, a Shovel,
Shears or a Hoe on a few other things too. Each cut will cost the tool 1 durability, and the items you get will pop out of the side of the board.
Crafting

The Cutting Board is one of the first things you’ll be able to make, as it only needs 4 Planks and 2
Sticks. Any kind of Planks will work, and they don’t have to match, so you can use up whatever wood you’ve got spare.
It has to sit on top of a solid block, and it will pop off as an item if the block under it is broken. An Axe is the quickest tool to break it with, though you’re able to break it by hand as well and it will still drop.
How to Use It
Right-click the board with any item to place it on top, and you’re able to put a whole stack on it at once. Right-clicking it with an empty hand takes the stack back off, so nothing gets used up until you actually cut it.
Cutting Items
With an item on the board, right-click it while holding the right tool, like a
Flint Knife for food. Each right-click will cut one item from the stack, and the board will tell you how many are left, which makes it quick to work through a whole stack of meat.

If nothing happens, the message “Maybe with a different tool…” will show up instead. That means the tool is wrong for that item, or the item doesn’t have a Cutting Board recipe at all, so it’s worth checking the tables further down this page.
Which Tools Work
You’ll use a Knife for most things, like meat, fish, crops, flowers and pies, and an Axe for anything that’s made of wood. A Pickaxe, Shovel,
Shears or Hoe will only work on a few things each, and they’re mostly used to break down blocks and items you don’t need anymore.
Knives from other mods will often work as well, as long as they count as a knife, and it’s the same for Axes from other mods. It doesn’t matter what the tool is made of either, so you’ll get just as much from a Flint Knife as you would from a Netherite one.
If your tool has Fortune, each level will add 10% to the chance of getting the rarer items, like the
Flint from
Gravel or the dye from Wild Crops. It won’t give you any more of the items you always get, so you’ll only need it for those recipes.
Automating It
A
Hopper is able to put items on the board and take them off again from any side. To do the cutting, you’ll need a
Dispenser with some tools in it facing the board, and each time it gets a redstone signal it will use one of the tools on the item on the board.
The Dispenser won’t place items on the board itself, so it’s the Hopper that needs to keep the board topped up. The results still pop out of the side as items, so you’ll want a Hopper or a
Basket next to the board to catch them.
If you’re playing with Create as well, the Create Slice & Dice add-on has a
Slicer, which holds a Knife and is able to do the same cutting recipes using rotational power. It’ll save you from building the Hopper and Dispenser setup for every board.
Displaying a Tool
Sneak and right-click the board while holding a tool, like a Sword, an Axe, Shears or a
Trident, and it will stick the tool into the board as a decoration. The board won’t cut anything while a tool is stuck in it, and right-clicking with an empty hand takes the tool back out.
Recipes
You won’t find these recipes in the vanilla recipe book, though JEI and EMI will show them, so this page has all of them, with the tool that you’ll need. This is where you’ll get most of the cut ingredients, like
Raw Bacon or
Pumpkin Slices, which are needed for meals in the
Cooking Pot.
Knife: Meat and Fish
Meat is the main thing you’ll cut on a board, as the cuts are used in sandwiches, soups and pasta. Fish and chicken give you some
Bone Meal as well, and the cooked versions can be cut too, so you don’t have to cut them raw.
Fish works the same way, and you’ll get two slices from each
Raw Cod or
Raw Salmon, plus some Bone Meal. The slices are what you’ll need for a
Salmon Roll or a
Cod Roll, so it’s worth cutting a few fish whenever you catch them.
You’re able to cut the cooked versions on the board as well, along with
Ham and
Smoked Ham. Cutting a Ham will give you the Porkchops back along with a
Bone, so it’s only worth doing if you’ve got more Ham than you need.
| Item | Cuts Into |
|---|---|
| Cooked Chicken | 2 Cooked Chicken Cuts, 1 Bone Meal |
| Cooked Mutton | 2 Cooked Mutton Chops |
| Cooked Cod | 2 Cooked Cod Slices, 1 Bone Meal |
| Cooked Salmon | 2 Cooked Salmon Slices, 1 Bone Meal |
| Ham | 2 Raw Porkchops, 1 Bone |
| Smoked Ham | 2 Cooked Porkchops, 1 Bone |
You can’t cut
Steak or
Cooked Porkchops, so you’ll need to cut them while they’re raw and cook the pieces after. The Cut Meat and Fish page has what each cut restores, and Ham has where to get Ham in the first place.
Knife: Crops, Pies and Flowers
You can cut a lot of crops and food on the board as well, and the pies and the
Cake will all give you slices that you’re able to eat one at a time. You’ll also need to cut dough here to get
Raw Pasta, which is used in most of the pasta dishes.
Each of the pies will cut into 4 slices, which you’re able to carry around and eat one at a time, whereas a whole pie has to be placed down before you can eat it. The
Pumpkin Pie from vanilla Minecraft can be cut the same way as the mod’s own pies.
There’s a few more things you can cut with a Knife, like the Cake, a
Melon and the
Rice Panicles you’ll get from growing
Rice. Most of these will give you vanilla items back, like
Melon Slices and Mushrooms, along with the Straw from the Rice.
| Item | Cuts Into |
|---|---|
| Melon | 9 Melon Slices |
| Rice Panicle | 1 Rice, 1 Straw |
| Cake | 7 Slices of Cake |
| Brown or Red Mushroom Colony | 5 Brown or Red Mushrooms |
| Ink Sac | 2 Black Dye |
You’ll get 9 slices from a Melon on the board every time, whereas breaking one in the world will only give you 3 to 7 of them. You can cut every vanilla flower into dye as well, and you’ll get 2 dye from each one instead of the 1 you’d get from crafting it.
| Dye (2 per flower) | Flowers |
|---|---|
| Red Dye | Poppy, Red Tulip |
| Yellow Dye | Dandelion |
| Orange Dye | Orange Tulip, Torchflower |
| Pink Dye | Pink Tulip |
| Magenta Dye | Allium |
| Light Blue Dye | Blue Orchid |
| Blue Dye | Cornflower |
| Light Gray Dye | Azure Bluet, Oxeye Daisy, White Tulip |
| White Dye | Lily of the Valley |
| Black Dye | Wither Rose |
Tall flowers like the
Rose Bush and
Sunflower can’t go on the board, so you’ll still need a
Crafting Table for those. They already give you 2 dye when you craft them, though, so you aren’t missing out on anything by doing it the normal way.
Knife: Wild Crops
You can cut the Wild Crops you’ll find growing around the world to get their seeds or crop, and you might get some dye as well. It’s a quick way to get your first
Cabbage Seeds or
Tomato Seeds if you’ve picked up a few of them.
| Wild Crop | Always Gives | Chance Of |
|---|---|---|
| Wild Cabbage | 1 Cabbage Seeds | Up to 2 Yellow Dye (50% each) |
| Tomato Shrub | 1 Tomato Seeds | 1 Tomato (20%), 1 Green Dye (10%) |
| Wild Onion | 1 Onion, 2 Magenta Dye | 1 Lime Dye (10%) |
| Wild Carrot | 1 Carrot | Up to 2 Light Gray Dye (50% each) |
| Wild Potato | 1 Potato | Up to 2 Purple Dye (50% each) |
| Sea Beet | 1 Beetroot Seeds, 1 Red Dye | Nothing |
| Wild Rice | 1 Rice | 1 Straw (50%) |
Wild Crops can be placed back down like a flower, so it’s worth keeping one of each for decoration before you cut the rest for dye.
Wild Rice is a good one to cut, as it might give you some
Straw along with the Rice.
Axe Recipes
If you use an Axe on a log on the board, it will strip it just like it would in the world, but you’ll get a piece of
Tree Bark as well. You can use Tree Bark to make
Organic Compost and
Paper, so it’s worth stripping your logs on the board instead.
It works on every log, wood, stem and hyphae in the game, not just Oak. An Axe will break down a few other wooden things as well, like
Baskets and spare doors, and you’ll find them in the table along with everything else it can cut.
| Item | Cuts Into |
|---|---|
| Any log, wood, stem or hyphae | The stripped version, 1 Tree Bark |
| Bamboo Block | 1 Block of Stripped Bamboo, 1 Straw |
| Basket | 1 Canvas, 1 Stick |
| Bamboo Basket | 1 Canvas, 1 Bamboo |
| Wooden doors, trapdoors, signs, fences, fence gates, pressure plates, buttons, boats and Cabinets | 1 matching Planks (75% chance) |
You’ll only get one plank back from a wooden item, and only 75% of the time, so it’s more of a way to get rid of spare doors and signs than a way to get more wood. It works on every type of vanilla wood and on the mod’s own Cabinets as well, which are on the Cabinets page.
Pickaxe, Shovel, Shears and Hoe Recipes
The other tools only have a few recipes each, and most of them are for getting back what you used to make a block. You’ll need a Hoe to take the
Chest back off a Chest Boat or a
Minecart with Chest, and that’s the only thing you’ll use a Hoe for on the board.
| Tool | Item | Cuts Into |
|---|---|---|
| Pickaxe | Stone or Deepslate | 1 Cobblestone or Cobbled Deepslate |
| Pickaxe | Bricks, Nether Bricks, Block of Quartz, Block of Amethyst | 4 Brick, Nether Brick, Nether Quartz or Amethyst Shard |
| Shovel | Clay | 4 Clay Balls |
| Shovel | Gravel | 1 Gravel, 1 Flint (10%) |
| Shears | Any Leather armor piece | 1 Leather |
| Shears | Leather Horse Armor | 2 Leather |
| Shears | Saddle | 2 Leather, up to 2 Iron Nuggets (50% each) |
| Hoe | Any Chest Boat or Chest Raft | The Boat or Raft, 1 Chest |
| Hoe | Minecart with Chest, Furnace, Hopper or TNT | 1 Minecart, plus that block |
If you cut
Gravel with a Shovel, you’ll get the Gravel back every time and a chance at some
Flint as well, so you’re able to keep cutting the same stack. With Fortune III on the Shovel that chance goes up to 40%, which will help if you need a lot of Flint to make a
Flint Knife or two.
FAQ
Right-click it with an item to put it on the board, then right-click it again while holding the right tool, which is usually a Knife. Each click cuts one item and costs the tool 1 durability, and the results pop out of the side of the board.
Put 2
Sticks down the left side of a
Crafting Table and 4 Planks in a square next to them. Any type of Planks works, and you can even mix different woods in the same recipe.
If you see “Maybe with a different tool…”, then you’re holding the wrong tool for that item, or the item can’t be cut at all. Check that there isn’t a tool stuck in the board for display as well, as it won’t cut anything until you take it out.
You’ll need a
Hopper to put items on the board, and a
Dispenser with Knives or other tools in it facing the board, which will cut one item each time it gets a redstone signal. The items will drop out of the side, so put a Hopper or a
Basket there to pick them up.
