Comfort is a status effect from the Farmer’s Delight mod that heals you when your saturation has run out, healing half a heart every 4 seconds no matter how hungry you are. It’s still in the mod, but none of the foods give it any more, so the only way you’ll see it in a normal game is from a command, another mod or a modpack that adds it back.
Soups and stews like
Chicken Soup and
Vegetable Soup give the Nourishment effect instead now, which stops your hunger bar from going down. If you’ve come here after eating one of those, that’s the effect you’ll have on you.
How to Get It
No food, drink or Feast in the current version of Farmer’s Delight grants Comfort, and that’s the same on both the 1.21.1 and 1.20.1 versions of the mod. Every soup and stew from the
Cooking Pot gives Nourishment, and so do the vanilla soups the mod changes, like
Rabbit Stew.

That means the only way to get it is with the effect command, which needs cheats turned on or a Command Block. The command below gives you Comfort for 5 minutes, and you’re able to change the number at the end to set a different length in seconds.
Some modpacks and add-ons for Farmer’s Delight use Comfort on their own foods, so it’s worth checking the tooltip on a meal before you assume it gives Nourishment. With the mod’s food tooltips turned on, every food will list the effects it gives underneath its name, which makes it easy to tell them apart.
Older guides list Comfort on foods like
Bone Broth,
Chicken Soup and
Pumpkin Soup. In Farmer’s Delight 1.3.4 every one of those gives Nourishment instead, so you’ll see the gold overlay on your hunger bar rather than the Comfort one on your hearts.
How It Works
Every 4 seconds, Comfort checks whether you’re able to heal and gives you back half a heart if you are. It only does this when three things are true, so you won’t always see it working even while the effect is on you.
- Your saturation is completely empty, as healing from saturation already works the normal way
- You don’t have Regeneration, since Comfort steps aside for the stronger effect
- You’re below your maximum health, as there’s nothing to heal otherwise
When all three are true, a sheen will scroll across your hearts to show that Comfort is doing the healing. It works at any hunger level, which is the point of it, as vanilla healing stops once your hunger bar drops below 9 shanks.
Healing Rate
Half a heart every 4 seconds is the same pace as vanilla healing when your hunger bar is nearly full. Over 5 minutes that adds up to 75 half hearts, or 37.5 hearts, as long as your saturation stays empty and you keep taking damage to heal from.
Higher levels of the effect don’t heal any faster, as Comfort ignores its level completely, so Comfort II from a command works exactly like Comfort I. It works on mobs as well, like a tamed Wolf or a Horse, and for them the saturation check is skipped entirely.
| Effect | What It Does | From Food |
|---|---|---|
| Comfort | Heals half a heart every 4 seconds while saturation is empty | No |
| Nourishment | Stops hunger from going down, except while healing from saturation | Yes, most meals |
The two effects fit together quite well, as one keeps your hunger up while the other heals you when saturation is gone. Without a food that gives Comfort though, Nourishment is the one you’ll be planning around, and it has its own healing trick once your saturation runs out.
FAQ
Comfort heals you half a heart every 4 seconds, but only while your saturation is empty and you don’t have Regeneration. It works at any hunger level, so you’d still heal with an almost empty hunger bar, which vanilla healing can’t do.
None of them do in the current version of Farmer’s Delight, as soups and stews give Nourishment instead. You can still get Comfort with the command /effect give @s farmersdelight:comfort 300, or from an add-on or modpack that uses it on its own foods.
Comfort heals you slowly when your saturation is empty, whereas Nourishment stops your hunger bar from going down at all. Nourishment comes from most of the mod’s meals, while Comfort isn’t given by any food any more, so it’s only seen through commands or other mods.
It doesn’t, as Comfort stops healing completely while you have Regeneration and lets that effect do the work instead. It also waits while you have any saturation left, so it won’t overlap with the fast healing you get from a full hunger bar and saturation.
