Pies and Desserts are the sweet foods from the Farmer’s Delight mod, and most of them are built on a
Pie Crust made in a regular
Crafting Table. The three pies the mod adds are placed down as blocks, like a Cake, and you’ll either eat them a slice at a time where they sit or cut them into slices with a
Knife to carry with you.
The mod also changes a couple of vanilla desserts, as
Pumpkin Pie can now be placed down the same way, and a
Cake can be cut into slices with a Knife. On top of the pies, there are two new cookies, a Melon Popsicle and a Glow Berry Custard, and every slice of pie or cake will give you a short burst of Speed when you eat it.
Pie Crust
The
Pie Crust is made from 3
Wheat and a bit of milk, which can either be a
Milk Bucket or one of the mod’s
Milk Bottles. It’s worth using a bottle if you’ve got them, as one Milk Bucket will make 4 Milk Bottles, so the same bucket of milk is able to go into 4 crusts instead of 1.
You can eat the crust on its own, though it will only restore 2 hunger, so it’s really there to be used in the pies below. The Drinks page has the Milk Bottle recipe, and any recipe on this page that asks for milk will take either the bucket or the bottle.
Pies

The
Apple Pie,
Chocolate Pie and
Sweet Berry Cheesecake all have the Pie Crust in the bottom middle of the grid. The Apple Pie also needs 3
Wheat, 3
Apples and 2
Sugar, the Chocolate Pie needs 3
Cocoa Beans, 3 milk and 2 Sugar, and the Cheesecake needs 6
Sweet Berries with 2 milk.
Farmer’s Delight also adds a second recipe for vanilla
Pumpkin Pie, which uses the Pie Crust with 4
Pumpkin Slices, an
Egg and a Sugar. It gives you 2 Pumpkin Pies instead of 1, which makes it a better deal than the vanilla recipe once you’ve got a
Cutting Board to slice your
Pumpkins on.
Placing and Eating Pies
Right-clicking a block while holding a pie will place it down, and it needs a solid block underneath it, or it will break. Pumpkin Pie works the same way now, so if you want to eat one from your hand, you’ll need to aim at the sky or at nothing instead of the ground.
If placing Pumpkin Pie by accident gets annoying, the mod’s config has an option called Sneak to Place Pumpkin Pie. It’s turned off by default, but turning it on means you’ll have to sneak to place one, and a normal right-click will eat it instead.
Once it’s down, you can right-click a placed pie to take a bite, and each bite is the same as eating one slice, Speed included. A pie has 4 bites in it, and you’ll only be able to take one if you’re hungry, the same as with a
Cake.
Slicing Pies and Cakes
Right-clicking a placed pie with a
Knife will cut a slice off and drop it on the ground instead of eating it. Each pie gives 4 slices, and the slices can be put back into a whole pie in a 2×2 grid, so they’re a good way to take a pie with you without placing it.
A placed pie won’t drop anything if you break it with your hand or another tool, so you’ll lose whatever is left of it. If you break it with a Knife instead, it will drop all of the slices that haven’t been eaten yet, and this works on a placed
Cake as well.
You can also cut the items without placing them by putting them on a
Cutting Board. It gives the same number of slices as cutting the placed block does, which is handy when you’ve got a stack of pies in a chest and want them all as slices.
Slicing a
Pumpkin Pie is worth doing, as a whole one only restores 8 hunger when you eat it, whereas if you cut it up, each
Slice of Pumpkin Pie will restore 3, for 12 in total. You’ll get 30 seconds of Speed from each slice as well, so it’s a much better use of the pie.
Cake
Vanilla Cake can be cut the same way, as right-clicking a placed one with a Knife will drop a
Slice of Cake each time, for 7 slices in total. Cutting a Cake with
Candles on it will also drop the Candle, and a whole Cake will go on the Cutting Board as well if you’d rather not place it.
7 Slices of Cake can be crafted back into a whole Cake whenever you need one, so it’s fine to cut one up and carry it around. Each slice restores 2 hunger and gives 20 seconds of Speed, which adds up to the same 14 hunger a placed Cake gives you a bite at a time, with the Speed on top.
Cookies and Sweets
The
Sweet Berry Cookie and
Honey Cookie are both made from 2
Wheat and one extra ingredient, which is a Sweet Berry or a
Honey Bottle. Each craft gives you 8 cookies, and they’re quick to eat, though they only restore 2 hunger each, the same as a vanilla
Cookie.
The
Melon Popsicle is made from 4
Melon Slices, 2
Ice and a
Stick. It can be eaten even when your hunger is full, and eating one will put you out if you’re on fire, which makes it a handy thing to keep on your hotbar in the Nether if you don’t have Fire Resistance yet.
The
Glow Berry Custard is the only dessert made in the
Cooking Pot, from
Glow Berries, milk, an
Egg and a
Sugar, and it’s served in a
Glass Bottle, which you’ll get back once it’s eaten. It restores 7 hunger and can be eaten at any time, though it will also make you glow for 5 seconds, so other players will be able to see your outline through walls.
Effects
Every slice of pie, cheesecake and cake will give you Speed I when you eat it, which also happens when you take a bite of a placed pie. Hunger is shown in points, where 2 points is one shank on your hunger bar, and the slices are all quick to eat, so they’re easy to snack on while you’re running around.
Pies and Desserts
These numbers are the same on 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, as the mod uses the same food values on both. A whole pie works out to 12 hunger if you eat all 4 slices, though the Speed won’t stack, as each slice just resets it back to 30 seconds. The Melon Popsicle and Glow Berry Custard are the only two you’ll be able to eat on a full hunger bar.
Best Picks
Pumpkin Pie is the cheapest pie to make in bulk, as the Farmer’s Delight recipe gives you 2 pies, which is 8 slices and 24 hunger from one Pie Crust. The Apple Pie, Chocolate Pie and Cheesecake all give the same slices and Speed, so which one you make really comes down to whether you’ve got more
Apples,
Cocoa Beans or
Sweet Berries.
Glow Berry Custard restores the most of anything on this page at 7 hunger, though you’ll be glowing for a few seconds afterwards. The Melon Popsicle is worth keeping on you in the Nether, as it’s the only food here that will put you out if you catch fire, and you’re able to eat it even when you’re full.
FAQ
Pie Crust is made from 3
Wheat and a milk in a
Crafting Table, with the milk in the top middle. The milk can be a
Milk Bucket or a
Milk Bottle, and bottles are the better choice, as one bucket of milk will make 4 of them.
You’ll need a Knife, either to right-click a placed pie or to cut the whole pie on a
Cutting Board. Both ways will give you 4 slices, and if you break a half-eaten pie with a Knife, you’ll get the slices that are left as well.
Farmer’s Delight lets you place
Pumpkin Pie as a block, so right-clicking the ground will put it down instead of eating it. You can aim at the sky to eat it, or turn on the Sneak to Place Pumpkin Pie option in the config, which means you’ll only place one while sneaking.
Right-clicking a placed
Cake with any Knife will drop a Slice of Cake, and you’ll get 7 slices from a full one. You can also put the Cake item on a Cutting Board, and the slices will craft back into a Cake if you need it whole again.
