Cabbage is a crop from the Farmer’s Delight mod that you’ll grow from
Cabbage Seeds on
Farmland, and the seeds first come from
Wild Cabbage on beaches. It’s the mod’s leafy green, so it goes into a lot of the soups, sandwiches and salads, and you’re able to eat it raw as well if you need to.
It grows a lot like
Wheat does, through eight stages before it’s ready, and each mature plant will give you one Cabbage and a few more seeds to keep the farm going. You can also cut a Cabbage in half on a
Cutting Board to get a
Cabbage Leaf from each half, which is quicker to eat and counts as Cabbage in most recipes.
Finding It
Your first Cabbage Seeds will most likely come from
Wild Cabbage, which grows on the
Sand of Beaches and Snowy Beaches, usually with a few
Sandy Shrubs around it. It’s one of the more common Wild Crops, so walking along a coastline for a little while should be enough to find a patch.
Breaking a Wild Cabbage will give you one Cabbage Seeds, with a 20% chance of a Cabbage as well, and Fortune will add to the seeds. It’s worth using
Bone Meal on it before you break it, as that has an 80% chance to spread another Wild Cabbage nearby, up to 10 in the patch.

If you can’t find a beach, Cabbage Seeds can turn up in village chests, Mineshafts, Dungeons and Shipwrecks, and the Wandering Trader will sometimes sell them for an
Emerald. Villages also have a chance to grow Cabbage in their farms in place of some of the
Wheat, which is covered on the Villages and Loot page.
Growing
Cabbage Seeds are planted on
Farmland, the same way you’d plant
Wheat Seeds, and they’ll need a light level of 9 or higher to keep growing. It takes eight stages for the plant to be ready, and you’ll know it’s mature when the leaves have closed up into a round head of Cabbage.
Water within four blocks will keep the Farmland hydrated, which makes the crop grow faster, and
Bone Meal will push it on a couple of stages at a time. Planting it on
Rich Soil Farmland is even better, as fully hydrated Rich Soil Farmland will give it a free Bone Meal boost every so often.
Cabbage grows faster when it isn’t surrounded on every side by more Cabbage, the same as vanilla crops. For example, planting a row of Cabbage next to a row of
Onions or
Wheat will make both rows grow quicker than one big square of the same crop.
Villager Farmers are able to plant and harvest Cabbage Seeds as well, so if a village farm has some Cabbage in it, it will keep itself going. If you jump on normal Farmland though, it will still get trampled back into
Dirt and knock the crop off, which won’t happen on Rich Soil Farmland.
Harvesting
Breaking a fully grown Cabbage gives you one Cabbage and up to three Cabbage Seeds, with Fortune adding to the seeds. If you break it before it’s ready, you’ll only get the one seed back, so it’s worth waiting until the head has formed.
Each harvest will give you more seeds than you planted most of the time, so a small patch will grow into a big one fairly quickly. Extra Cabbage can be packed into a
Cabbage Crate, which holds 9 of them, and you’ll find more on the Crates and Bales page.
Cabbage Leaves
Putting a Cabbage on a
Cutting Board and using a Knife on it splits it in two, and each half is a
Cabbage Leaf. Two leaves can be crafted back into a whole Cabbage too, so nothing is lost if you cut more than you needed.
A Cabbage Leaf is eaten as quickly as
Dried Kelp, so it’s handy when you need a little bit of hunger back in a hurry. Neither the leaf nor a whole Cabbage fills you up much though, and you’ll get a lot more out of your Cabbage by cooking it into a meal.

Uses
Most of the recipes ask for a leafy green, and either a whole Cabbage or a Cabbage Leaf will work for that, so cutting them up first will make your Cabbage go twice as far. The
Gleaming Salad is the only one that needs two whole Cabbages.
Cabbage Rolls are the easiest place to start, as they only need a Cabbage and a piece of raw meat in a
Cooking Pot. The soups and the
Vegetable Noodles will give you the Nourishment effect, which is where your Cabbage farm will really start paying off.

You can feed Cabbage to Pigs and Rabbits to breed them, and Chickens and Parrots will eat Cabbage Seeds the same way they eat
Wheat Seeds. Apprentice Farmers will also buy 16 Cabbages for an
Emerald, which is a handy way to use up a big harvest.
FAQ
Cabbage starts out as
Wild Cabbage, which grows on the
Sand of Beaches and Snowy Beaches with yellow flowers on top. Breaking it gives you Cabbage Seeds and sometimes a Cabbage, and you might find seeds in village chests or buy them from the Wandering Trader as well.
Breaking Wild Cabbage is the main way, since every one drops a seed and Fortune can add more. Once you’ve got a crop growing, each mature Cabbage will drop up to three more seeds, so you’ll only need to find a few to start.
You’ll need to plant Cabbage Seeds on some hydrated
Farmland with enough light, the same way you would with
Wheat, and then wait for it to reach its eighth stage.
Bone Meal will speed it up, and
Rich Soil Farmland will give it extra growth boosts on its own.
It’s mostly used in cooking, as the leafy green in
Cabbage Rolls,
Dumplings, soups, sandwiches and salads. You can cut it into Cabbage Leaves to make it go further, or feed it to Pigs and Rabbits to breed them.
