Boss Summoning: Eyes & the Teleport Machine

What all 12 Eyes are made of and lead to, why they never summon a boss, and how the Eye Crystal and Teleport Machine summon The Obliterator.

Legendary Monsters Wiki Updated 6 min read

The 12 Eyes in Legendary Monsters are thrown to find the structure each boss lives in, the same way an Eye of Ender leads you to a Stronghold. They’re cheap to craft, as nearly all of them are 4 of a common block around an Ender Pearl. The Eyes don’t summon anything though, they only find the structure, and the boss will already be waiting inside.

The only boss that has to be summoned is The Obliterator, which is done with an Eye Crystal at the Teleport Machine in the Space Station. So there’s really two systems here, the Eyes to find the fights and the Teleport Machine to start the last one. Both are covered below, along with where each Eye leads and what you’ll find when you get there.

How It Works

Throwing and Following an Eye

To use an Eye, right-click with it in your hand and it will fly off toward the nearest structure of its type, then drop back down after a few seconds. Follow it, throw it again, and keep going until it hovers over the same spot. It can search up to 100 chunks in every direction, so if the Eye doesn’t fly at all, there’s nothing of that kind within range.

The Locate Command Does the Same Job

With cheats enabled, /locate structure legendary_monsters:collapsed_kingdom will give you the coordinates of the nearest Collapsed Kingdom straight away, and the same works for any structure in the table below. On a server without cheats, the Eyes are the only way.

Every throw uses up the Eye, although like an Eye of Ender it will usually drop back down as an item to be picked up again. Around 1 in 5 throws will shatter it instead, so craft 3 or 4 before setting off. The Eyes only work in the dimension their structure is in, so the Eye Of Annihilation goes in The End and the rest in the Overworld.

The 12 Eyes and Their Recipes

There’s an Eye for every structure in the mod apart from the Warped Fungussus Nest, which doesn’t have one. Eleven of them use an Ender Pearl in the middle, and the ingredient around it always matches the structure, so Snowballs make the Eye Of Frost and Magma Blocks make the Eye Of Magma.

Eye Of Annihilation

The Eye Of Annihilation is the odd one out. It needs an Eye of Ender in the middle and 4 Enderitium Gems around it, which you’ll have to mine from Enderitium Ore in The End, so it can’t be made until you’ve been there.

Most people go looking for the Eye Of Ghost first, as the Possessed Paladin is the mod’s best known fight, and the Soul Torches are what catches people out. You’ll need Soul Sand or Soul Soil from the Nether to make them, so you can’t find a Collapsed Kingdom with an Eye until you’ve been there. The Eye Of Shulker is the same story with End Stone.

Bosses Are Already in Their Structures

Once the Eye has led you to the structure, there’s nothing to summon. Every boss apart from The Obliterator is placed inside its structure when the world generates, so you’ll find the Skeletosaurus in its nest, the Overgrown Colossus in the Mossy Temple and so on. Some of them are asleep until you get close, like Cumulonimbus, who won’t wake up until a player comes within 8 blocks.

This also means you can’t fight the same boss twice in the same structure. Once it’s dead it stays dead, and the only way to fight another one is to find another copy of the structure with a fresh Eye.

How far that might be depends on the structure. A Skeletosaurus Nest or a Lava Eater’s Nest is placed every 25 chunks or so, whereas the Collapsed Kingdom and the Space Station are around 110 chunks apart. For the big ones, take everything the first fight drops rather than planning on a second.

The Teleport Machine and the Eye Crystal

The Obliterator is the exception to all of this, as he doesn’t exist until you summon him. In the main section of the Space Station there’s a Teleport Machine, and when you walk up to it a message will appear on your hotbar telling you to insert an Eye Crystal.

Using an Eye Crystal on the Teleport Machine

Right-click the machine with the Eye Crystal in your hand and it’s used up. The machine will shake and glow for a few seconds, then The Obliterator appears just above it, and he can’t be hurt until his arrival animation has finished.

Where the Eye Crystal Comes From

You’ll only get an Eye Crystal from the Annihilation Pursuer, which is a miniboss that lives in the same Space Station as the machine. It drops exactly 1 Eye Crystal every time, along with 2 to 10 Enderitium Gems, and none of it’s a chance roll.

Annihilation Pursuer Drops

Eye Crystal

Enderitium Gem
x2-10 100% RARE

There are three Pursuers in every station, asleep in different sections, so one station gives you three Eye Crystals and three attempts at The Obliterator. Since they’re asleep when you arrive, you can take them one at a time and pick when each fight starts.

Don’t Spend the Eye Crystal on the Shield

The Eye Crystal is also an ingredient in the Buckler Of Annihilation, which needs 1 of them along with 6 Enderitium Gems and 2 End Stone. If you craft the Shield first, there’s no Eye Crystal left to summon The Obliterator with, and the next one is a whole Space Station away.

Unlike the other bosses, The Obliterator can be summoned as many times as you like from the same machine, as long as you have another Eye Crystal each time. The machine never wears out, it just won’t work while it’s already charging. If he’s left alone he’ll heal back to full, and he won’t disappear either, so a failed attempt doesn’t cost you the Eye Crystal, only the fight.

Tips

Craft the Eye for the structure you actually want before you leave, as most of them cost a single Ender Pearl and four cheap blocks, and throw one from each new biome edge rather than walking a grid. Keep the Eye Crystals for the Teleport Machine, since nothing else in the mod spawns a boss on demand.

Every boss is already asleep inside its structure when the chunk generates, so an Eye’s job ends at the door. Clearing the smaller mobs first is worth more than any summoning trick, because the boss wakes when you get close, not when you want it to.

FAQ

What does the Eye Of Ghost do in Legendary Monsters?
›

The Eye Of Ghost leads you to the nearest Collapsed Kingdom, which is the structure the Possessed Paladin is found in. It’s crafted from 4 Soul Torches placed around an Ender Pearl, and you throw it and follow it like an Eye of Ender. It doesn’t summon the Possessed Paladin, as he’s already inside the kingdom waiting for you.

How do you get an Eye Crystal?
›

Eye Crystals drop from the Annihilation Pursuer, the miniboss inside the Space Station in The End, and they can’t be crafted or found in Chests. Each kill gives you exactly 1, and every Space Station holds three Annihilation Pursuers. The crystal is what you insert into the Teleport Machine to summon The Obliterator.

Do the Eyes summon the bosses?
›

They don’t, the Eyes only point you toward the structure, in the same way an Eye of Ender points to a Stronghold. Every boss except The Obliterator is already inside its structure when the world generates, so once you’ve arrived the fight is just a matter of walking in. The Obliterator is the only one that needs summoning, and that uses an Eye Crystal rather than an Eye.

What is the Eye Of Many Ribs for?
›

The Eye Of Many Ribs leads to the Ancient Stronghold, where the Ancient Guardian is fought. It’s made from 4 Dripstone Blocks around an Ender Pearl, which is the part people miss, as the name makes it sound like it should be made with Bones. Bones make the Eye Of Bones instead, which leads to the Skeletosaurus Nest.
