The Skeletosaurus is a towering fossil predator that sleeps deep in the Nether, and it hits like a freight train the moment it wakes. This ancient skeleton relies on sweeping tail attacks, a bone-shaking ground slam, and a fear-inducing roar to keep you off balance. With 150 health, 15 armor, and full knockback resistance, it will not stagger and it will not flinch, so you win by chipping it down steadily rather than trading blows.
Beat it and you claim
Dinosaur Bone, the material behind the
Dinosaur Bone Club, the
Dinosaur Bone Shield, and the
Skeletosaurus Egg. Bring Fire Resistance for the Nether, keep your feet moving to dodge the shockwaves, and never fight it from a pillar.
Location
The Skeletosaurus lives in the Nether, inside a buried Skeletosaurus Nest built into Soul Sand Valley biomes. A rare few also spawn out in the open in the same biome, but the nest is the reliable place to find one resting. It lies dormant in its nest, so you can walk right up to it before the fight begins.

To track down a nest, craft an
Eye Of Bones and use it just like an
Eye Of Ender. It floats off toward the nearest nest and points the way. You can also drop into any Soul Sand Valley and search on foot.
An Eye Of Bones costs four Bones around a single Ender Pearl, so it is cheap to make a handful before you set out. Throw several as you travel, since each one only survives part of the trip before it needs replacing.
Behavior
A nesting Skeletosaurus stays asleep and cannot be harmed until a player comes within roughly 15 blocks. Approaching wakes it with a roar that scatters nearby mobs and washes over you with the Fear effect. From there it fights entirely at close and medium range, mixing quick bites with heavy tail sweeps and a wide ground slam.
Attacks
The Skeletosaurus leans on area attacks that punish anyone standing still. Most of its hits sweep all the way around its body, so circling it is not enough on its own. Watch its wind-up and use the gaps between attacks to strike and retreat.
Bone-Crushing Bite
Fast snap, about 9 damage
Its fastest move is a snapping bite that deals about 9 damage to anything nearby. The wind-up is short, so it comes out often and keeps you honest. If you are blocking when it lands, the hit knocks your shield down for a couple of seconds and leaves you exposed to the follow-up.
Tail Whip
Wide sweep that launches you skyward

The tail whip swings in a wide arc out to about 8 blocks and hits for roughly 14 damage. It launches you into the air, so the fall afterward can add even more damage if you land badly. Like the bite, it disables a raised shield. Once the Skeletosaurus drops below half health, it whips twice in a row instead of once.
Ground Shockwaves
Expanding rings, about 17 each

Its signature attack slams the ground and sends rings of shockwaves rippling outward to around 6 blocks. The rings come in three bursts over a few seconds, and each one that catches you deals about 17 damage. This is the most dangerous move in the fight, so jump the rings as they pass under you or sprint out past their reach.
Terrifying Roar
Speeds it up and inflicts Fear
Roughly every 15 seconds the Skeletosaurus lets out a roar that briefly boosts its own speed and rushes it toward you. The same roar inflicts the Fear effect and drives lesser mobs away from the area. Use the short speed burst to reposition rather than panicking, since it fades after about two seconds.
Below Half Health
The fight has one clear turning point at 50% health, or 75 HP. Above that mark it uses a single tail whip. Once you push it below half, it swaps to a double whip that launches you twice back to back. That second launch is what catches most players, so tighten up your spacing and keep Feather Falling on your boots for the rest of the fight.
Special Mechanics
The Skeletosaurus resists cheese tactics on every front. It caps incoming damage at 21 per hit, so repeated attacks beat one massive burst. It also ignores knockback completely and cannot be poisoned, since thrown potions and lingering clouds do nothing to it. As an undead mob, it takes bonus damage from Smite where Sharpness falls short.
As a Nether native, it is immune to fire and lava, so burning it down or luring it into a lava pool will not work. Attacking it from too high or too low, such as from a pillar or a pit, makes it invulnerable. It also smashes ordinary blocks around itself when hurt, so you cannot wall it off either. If you disengage and leave it without a target, it quickly regenerates health and can reset to its nest, so commit to the kill once you start.
A sleeping Skeletosaurus takes no damage at all until a player wakes it, so you must close within about 15 blocks before the fight can begin. Fighting from a ledge or pit only makes it invulnerable, and stepping away lets it heal. Meet it on the ground and finish the job in one go.
Drops
Every Skeletosaurus drops exactly two Dinosaur Bone, and it is the only source of them in the mod. The fixed count means Looting does nothing here, so plan on fighting more than one if you want a full set of gear. Two bones is enough for one of its craftable items per kill.
Dinosaur Bone feeds three different recipes. It builds the
Dinosaur Bone Club, a heavy melee weapon, and the
Dinosaur Bone Shield for extra defense. Combine it with a
Bone Block and
Basalt and you get a
Skeletosaurus Egg, which hatches into a rideable
Skeloraptor. Each of these has its own guide, so check those pages for the full details.
Strategy
Gear up for a Nether fight before you throw a single
Eye Of Bones. Diamond or Netherite armor gives you the buffer to survive a stray shockwave, and Fire Resistance keeps the surrounding hazards from finishing what the boss started. Bring a strong, durable weapon rather than a glass-cannon build, since the 21-damage cap rewards sustained hits over one big swing. As an undead boss, it takes extra damage from Smite over Sharpness.
Pack a bow as well, since ranged shots let you keep chipping away when you need distance instead of standing flat-footed. Soul Speed boots are also worth the enchant, since the nest sits on soul sand that slows you down right when you need to dodge.
During the fight, treat the ground shockwaves as your main threat and everything else as secondary. Jump the expanding rings or back away past 7 blocks whenever you see it slam down. Keep a shield up between its swings, but remember both the bite and the tail whip disable it for a moment. Do not rely on your shield as your only defense.
Feather Falling is close to essential, since the tail whip launches you and the fall damage adds up fast once it whips twice below half health. Stay on flat ground so you never trigger the anti-cheese invulnerability, and do not run off to heal, since it will regenerate if you break contact. If you own a Dinosaur Bone Club and Shield from a previous kill, they make excellent tools for taking down the next one.
FAQ
It lives in the Nether, inside a Skeletosaurus Nest that generates in Soul Sand Valley biomes. Craft an Eye Of Bones and throw it to track down the nearest nest, or search a Soul Sand Valley on foot. A rare few also spawn out in the open in the same biome.
Surround a single Ender Pearl with four Bones in a Crafting Table. It works exactly like an Eye Of Ender, floating toward the nearest nest when you use it. Make several, since each one only lasts part of the journey.
While it sleeps in its nest it is completely invulnerable, so you must walk within about 15 blocks to wake it first. It also turns invulnerable if you attack from a pillar or pit far above or below it. Every hit is capped at 21 damage as well, so huge single strikes get reduced.
Dinosaur Bone crafts the Dinosaur Bone Club and the Dinosaur Bone Shield, and it goes into the Skeletosaurus Egg that hatches a rideable Skeloraptor. The Skeletosaurus is the only source of the bones, and each kill gives you exactly two. That is enough for one of those items per fight.
Jump the shockwave rings as they pass under you, or sprint out beyond about 7 blocks when it slams the ground. For the tail whip, keep Feather Falling on your boots so the launch and fall do less damage. Below half health it whips twice in a row, so give yourself extra space.
No. The drop is a fixed two Dinosaur Bone every time, so Looting has no effect on it. If you need more bones, you will have to defeat additional Skeletosaurus.
