Chorusent

Beat the Chorusent, the teleporting 200 HP boss of the Ancient Tower Remains. Projectiles only move it, its hits infect you, and it drops the Chorus Crystal.

Legendary Monsters Wiki Updated 6 min read

The Chorusent is the boss of the Ancient Tower Remains, which is a Legendary Monsters structure that generates on the outer islands of The End. You’ll find it asleep in the middle of the tower, and it won’t wake up until a player gets within 15 blocks. It has 200 health, 100 hearts’ worth, and it teleports about the way an Enderman does.

Killing a Chorusent is the only way to get a Chorus Crystal, which is needed for the Chorus Blade, the Chorus Cannon and the Chorus Mask. Its hits give you Chorus Infection, which chips at you and hops you about at random. Nothing you throw or shoot will touch it either, so it’s a Sword fight from start to finish.

Location

You’ll only find a Chorusent in the Ancient Tower Remains, with 1 in each tower. The towers generate on the surface of the End Highlands and End Midlands, so they’re out past the Gateways rather than on the main island, and they’re spaced around 65 chunks apart. With cheats enabled, the command below will point you at the nearest one.

Without cheats, you’ll want an Eye Of Chorus, which is 4 Chorus Fruit placed around an Ender Pearl, and the fruit is growing all over the outer islands anyway. It has to be thrown in The End, and it will fly toward the nearest tower within 100 chunks like an Eye of Ender does. Bring a couple, as it might shatter on the way down.

The tower is built from Purpur with Chorus Plants growing all through it, so from a distance it looks like a broken End City. Inside there’s a couple of Chests with End City treasure, a few Chorusling spawners and the Chorusent asleep in the center. The Choruslings are worth killing on the way in, as they drop the Infected Chorus Fruit that the crystal recipes need.

Behavior

While it’s asleep the Chorusent can’t be damaged or given any effects, so you can’t get a head start on it. Once a player comes within 15 blocks it wakes up and comes for them, and it will attack Iron Golems as well. It doesn’t walk far though, as after most attacks it teleports to a random spot nearby, and it can teleport straight to you from 12 blocks away.

Attacks

All of its attacks are sweeps with its arms, and every one that lands while you aren’t blocking gives you Chorus Infection for 2 seconds. The damage below is before armor, and each sweep will disable a raised Shield for 2 seconds as well. The teleport strike is the one that catches people, as it closes 12 blocks in an instant.

Chorusent Attacks
Attack Reach Damage What to Know
Arm Sweep7 blocks, wide arc12Its usual attack, and it teleports away right after
Heavy Sweep7 blocks, wide arc15A slower version with a bigger hit, then it teleports away
Teleport StrikeFrom up to 12 blocks12It teleports to you first, then sweeps in a 5 block arc

Because it teleports away after nearly every swing, you’ll rarely get more than a hit or two in before it’s gone again. The trick is not to chase it, as it will come back to you on its own, either by walking or with the Teleport Strike. Hold your ground and hit it when it arrives rather than running around the tower after it.

Special Mechanics

Chorus Infection feels like eating a Chorus Fruit you didn’t want. While it’s on you, every tick has a small chance of dealing 3 magic damage and hopping you up to 2 blocks, which works out at about once a second. The hop always lands you on solid ground, so it won’t throw you into the void, but it does pull you out of position mid-swing.

Anything You Shoot or Throw Makes It Teleport

Arrows, Tridents, Snowballs and even Splash Potions don’t damage the Chorusent at all. Instead, any projectile that hits it makes it teleport to a random spot nearby, so a Bow does nothing but move it further away. A Potion of Harming is wasted on it for the same reason.

It can’t be knocked back, it takes nothing from falling, and standing in fire won’t hurt it. Being on fire does though, so Fire Aspect works, and it’s one of the few extras that will keep doing damage while it’s teleporting around. Unlike the mod’s big bosses there’s no damage cap on it, so a heavy hit counts in full.

Drops

Every Chorusent will drop exactly 1 Chorus Crystal and a small amount of experience, and Looting doesn’t add to it. The crystal doesn’t come from anywhere else, so it works out at one crystal per tower, and each crystal makes one of three things.

The Chorus Blade is the crystal, 2 Infected Chorus Fruit and an Iron Sword. The Chorus Cannon takes the crystal and 2 Infected Chorus Fruit on a Sand Cannon with a Gold Ingot, and its bombs give Chorus Infection to whatever they hit. The Chorus Mask is a helmet from the crystal, 1 Infected Chorus Fruit and 4 Chorus Fruit.

The Infected Chorus Fruit for all three comes from the Choruslings, which drop 1 to 3 each, and there’s usually a few of them in the tower plus the spawners. As the crystal only stretches to one recipe, you’ll need another tower for the second, and the Chorus Cannon also means beating a Dune Sentinel first for the Sand Cannon it’s built on.

Strategy

Bring a Sword with Sharpness and Fire Aspect, as there’s no cap on your damage here and the burn keeps working while it teleports. Diamond or Netherite with Protection IV is enough for the sweeps. A Milk Bucket clears Chorus Infection, though the Chorusent’s own dose only lasts 2 seconds, so save it for when the Choruslings stack theirs on top.

Boss Fight Preparation

Fight it in the middle of the tower, where there’s room to work with, and clear the Choruslings first. Stand your ground when it teleports away, block the sweep when it comes back, then hit it twice and expect it to vanish again. It’s a slow fight, but a safe one done that way.

Recommended Enchantments

Sharpness V
There's no damage cap here, so every point counts
Fire Aspect II
Being on fire hurts it, and the burn keeps ticking while it teleports
Protection IV
Takes the edge off the 15 damage Heavy Sweep
Feather Falling IV
The teleports from Chorus Infection can drop you off the tower

Keep Golden Apples in the hotbar for the chip damage, as every hop comes with 3 magic damage that your armor won’t touch. Blocking a sweep with a Shield stops the infection landing at all, so raise it when you see one coming.

FAQ

Where do you find the Chorusent in Legendary Monsters?
›

It sleeps in the middle of the Ancient Tower Remains, a Purpur tower that generates in the End Highlands and End Midlands about 65 chunks apart. Craft an Eye Of Chorus from 4 Chorus Fruit and an Ender Pearl, throw it in The End and follow it to the nearest tower. With cheats on, /locate structure legendary_monsters:ancient_tower_remains gives you the coordinates.

What does the Chorusent drop?
›

It drops 1 Chorus Crystal every time and nothing else. The crystal makes the Chorus Blade or the Chorus Mask with Infected Chorus Fruit from the Choruslings, or the Chorus Cannon if you already have a Sand Cannon from the Dune Sentinel, and one crystal only covers one of them.

How do you beat the Chorusent?
›

Use a Sword, as anything you shoot or throw at it just makes it teleport, and don’t chase it after it vanishes, because it will come back to you on its own. Block its sweeps with a Shield when you can, as a blocked hit doesn’t pass on Chorus Infection, and keep Milk for when the Choruslings add theirs.

Why do I keep teleporting when I fight the Chorusent?
›

That’s Chorus Infection, which every one of its unblocked hits gives you for 2 seconds. While it’s on you there’s a chance each tick of taking 3 magic damage and hopping up to 2 blocks onto nearby ground, a bit like eating a Chorus Fruit. Blocking the hit with a Shield stops the effect, and a Milk Bucket removes it once it’s on you.
