The Void Sword is a Legendary Monsters weapon made from two Void Gems, which are buried in the End rather than dropped by anything. That sets it apart, as most of the mod’s gear is crafted out of what its boss fights leave behind. It swings once a second for 10 damage, which is 2 more per hit than a
Netherite Sword manages.
Nothing drops the sword itself and it wasn’t added to the mod’s creative tab either, so crafting it is the only route in survival. You’ll be making a trip to the End for the gems and a trip to the Nether for the
Withered Bone that finishes it, and you’ll want a
Brush packed before you set off.
Obtaining
Both Void Gems come out of the Ancient Tower Remains, which generate in the End Highlands and End Midlands once you’re out past the central island. Each tower is built around a single
Suspicious Sand block down at its base, and that block holds exactly 1 Void Gem, so two separate towers are needed for one sword.
They’re spread thin as well, so line up both trips before you leave, with
Elytra packed for the crossing since there’s no quick way across that much of the End on foot. The locate command finds the nearest one if your world allows it.
Brush Two Ancient Towers
1 Void Gem per tower
Take a
Brush, since brushing is the only way the gem comes out, and take something for the Choruslings, as three spawners keep pushing them out while you’re standing still working. A hit from one lands Chorus Infection for 3 seconds, which chips you for 3 at a time.
The hop that comes with it moves you a couple of blocks onto nearby ground, so it pulls you off the sand rather than off the tower. Blocking stops the infection landing, though the same hit puts your
Shield on cooldown, so brush in short bursts between waves.
The Chorusent sits in the middle of the tower on 200 health and hits for 16, and it’ll come for you from 30 blocks off, though nothing about the gem is locked behind killing it. Its
Chorus Crystal, with
Infected Chorus Fruit off the Choruslings and an
Iron Sword, is the
Chorus Blade, so the trip covers that as well.
Mining the Suspicious Sand drops nothing at all, not even Sand, and the Void Gem inside goes with it. The same thing happens if you dig out the block underneath and let it fall, so brush it clean first and dig whatever you like afterward.
There are a couple of
Shulker Boxes holding End City treasure loot in there too, which is worth opening on the way past. Neither box has anything to do with the gem, so open them after the brushing rather than before.
Kill a Withered Abomination
Drops 2 Withered Bone
The last piece is a
Withered Bone, which comes off the Withered Abomination, the boss inside the Soul Fortress Remains in Soul Sand Valley and Nether Wastes biomes. It drops 2 every kill, so a single fight covers two swords, and those same bones are what the
Withered Scythe is built from if you’d rather spend them there instead.
Craft the Sword
Any Crafting Table
The recipe is laid out like any ordinary sword, with the two gems stacked up the middle column and the Withered Bone sitting underneath them as the handle. There’s no recipe advancement attached to it, so the vanilla recipe book won’t hand it over and you’ll be laying the shape out yourself.
| Row | Left | Middle | Right |
|---|---|---|---|
| Top | — | Void Gem | — |
| Middle | — | Void Gem | — |
| Bottom | — | Withered Bone | — |
The Withered Bone goes in the handle slot, and it’s the only part of the recipe that isn’t from the End. If you’ve already got Withered Bones from a Soul Fortress run, the two towers are the whole cost.
Everything on that list fits in three slots, and the Brush is the one people forget. Elytra aren’t on it because you can bridge the gaps instead, but they turn two tower trips into one evening.
Usage
10 damage a swing at an attack speed of 1 means one fully charged hit every second, with a sweep on each of them if mobs are bunched around your target. That’s slower than nearly anything you’ll have been using, so it wants you waiting for the cooldown to fill rather than clicking through it.

Half-charged hits give up a big chunk of that 10, which is where the sword falls apart in a crowd. Against a boss that stands still it’s fine, against a crowd that’s closing on you the gap between swings is where the damage comes back.
Void Sword
Chorus Blade
Netherite Sword
Durability is where it stings, as 250 is roughly what an
Iron Sword carries. It isn’t fireproof either, unlike the
Chorus Blade, so Lava takes it like any ordinary sword. An
Anvil takes a Void Gem as the repair material, but that only puts back a quarter of the bar and every gem costs another tower, so Mending is the repair plan.
Enchantments
Enchantability sits at 14, the same as Iron, so a table with a full ring of bookshelves will treat it about as well as an
Iron Sword and a little worse than Netherite. Every normal sword enchantment applies, and with only 250 durability to spend the ones that keep it in one piece end up mattering more than the ones that add damage.
Sharpness V is the one that reads best on paper, it takes a swing from 10 to 13 and stacks onto every hit. Unbreaking III is what lets you actually keep the sword though, as it stretches those 250 hits out to something nearer a thousand, and pairing it with Mending means you’ll never have to think about the gems again.
Tips
Treat it as a boss sword rather than a carry sword, because 250 durability at 10 a swing is a few fights, not a season. Keep the
Knight’s Sword or a
Netherite Sword for the walk between fights and pull this one out when the target is worth the wear.
Brush both towers on the same trip and craft the sword before you leave the End, since the
Withered Bone is the only part that lives elsewhere. Bring the bone out with you and the sword’s finished the moment the second gem comes out of the sand, rather than after another trip home.
FAQ
Two, and each Ancient Tower Remains only has the one buried in it, so a single sword costs you two towers. Gems can’t be crafted or dropped, they only sit in that one
Suspicious Sand block at the base of the tower, which is why the trip out to the End islands is the real cost of the sword.
Per swing it lands harder, 10 against 8, so anything you can hit once and back away from takes more. Netherite swings 1.6 times a second against 1 though, which works out at 12.8 damage a second versus 10, and it carries 2031 durability where the Void Sword carries 250. With that little durability behind it, it’s a sword to bring to a fight rather than one to carry everywhere.
There’s nothing on the right-click, unlike the
Chorus Blade from the same tower, which teleports you a short distance away. Everything the Void Sword does comes out of the 10 damage and whatever you enchant onto it, so it’s a plain melee weapon with a heavy swing.
Neither the sword nor the Void Gem was added to the Legendary Monsters creative tab, so browsing it won’t turn either of them up. Both still work normally in survival, and you can pull them in with /give @s legendary_monsters:void_sword or /give @s legendary_monsters:void_gem if you’re testing in a creative world.
