The Shulker Shield is a Legendary Monsters Shield crafted from the
Large Shulker Shell the Shulker Mimic drops, with 450 durability against a vanilla Shield’s 336. Its trick is a 60% chance to put Levitation II on whoever hits you while you’re blocking, which floats melee mobs off the ground for 2 seconds. It blocks exactly like a normal Shield otherwise, in either hand.

One Large Shulker Shell also makes the
Shulker Helmet, so the first kill forces a choice. The helmet protects you from Levitation and the Shield inflicts it, and most players want the helmet first.
Obtaining
The
Large Shulker Shell only drops from the Shulker Mimic, the miniboss asleep near the top of the Shulker Tower on the outer End islands. Every kill gives exactly one, along with 3 to 10 ordinary
Shulker Shells that repair the Shield later. Nothing else in the mod or the vanilla game produces the large shell.
The rest of the recipe is five
End Stone, which the outer islands are made of. Put the Large Shulker Shell in the top middle slot with End Stone in the top corners, the middle row and the bottom middle, the same shape as a vanilla Shield with the shell where the
Iron Ingot goes. The viewer below has the Shulker Helmet recipe on its second tab too.
With cheats on, the command below hands you one straight away, which is handy for trying it out before you spend a shell on it. Swap the id for large_shulker_shell if you’d rather test the crafting than the Shield itself.
It sits in the mod’s creative tab beside the
Shulker Helmet and the
Eye Of Shulker, so the whole tower kit is in one place. Survival players get it the hard way, one tower at a time.
Usage
Hold right-click and it blocks the same attacks a vanilla Shield does, melee,
Arrows and most projectiles from the front, and an Axe hit still disables it for 5 seconds. It gives no armor points and works from the main hand or the off hand, so the usual sword and Shield setup is fine.
The Levitation Counter
Whenever a living attacker hits you while the Shield is up, there’s a 60% chance it gets Levitation II for 2 seconds. The check runs on the attacker behind the hit, so a
Skeleton that shoots you floats just as readily as a
Zombie that swings at you. Two seconds of Levitation II lifts a mob a few blocks and drops it, which breaks a melee rush completely.
The
Shulker Helmet strips Levitation off you every tick, so with both pieces you can trade blocks in a Shulker Tower without ever leaving the floor yourself. The vanilla
Shulkers become a non-event, and anything that walks up to you spends half the fight in the air.
Against the Shulker Mimic it’s a poor choice, because most of its melee disables your Shield on contact for 5 to 7 seconds. Save it for the ordinary End and the Overworld, where a floating Zombie or
Piglin is a free hit.
Enchantments
Shields only take two useful enchantments, and both go on through an
Anvil with a Book. Mending is the one that matters, since the shell to repair it costs a tower run each time.
Repair works in an Anvil with ordinary
Shulker Shells, or by combining two damaged Shields in a
Crafting Table. The 3 to 10 shells the Mimic drops cover several full repairs on their own.
Tips
Use it as the opener rather than the answer, blocking the first hit of a pack so half of it floats away, then swinging while they’re airborne. A floating mob can’t path and can’t reach you, so the 2 seconds are yours.
Shulker Shield
Vanilla Shield
Watch the axes as always, since an Axe hit disables it the same as a vanilla Shield. It’s a Shield first and a trick second, and the trick only fires while you’re actually blocking, so hold it up rather than tapping it.
FAQ
One
Large Shulker Shell in the top middle with 5
End Stone around it in the vanilla Shield shape. The large shell comes only from the Shulker Mimic in the Shulker Tower, and the End Stone is the outer islands themselves.
It blocks like a normal Shield with 450 durability instead of 336, and every hit that lands while it’s raised has a 60% chance to give the attacker Levitation II for 2 seconds. That applies to whoever is behind the hit, so archers float too.
Yes, it blocks and triggers the Levitation from either hand, so you keep a sword in the main hand as usual. Only one Shield counts at a time, so there’s nothing gained from holding two.
In an
Anvil with ordinary
Shulker Shells, which vanilla
Shulkers and the Shulker Mimic both drop, or by putting two damaged Shields together in a
Crafting Table. Mending is the better long-term fix, as it needs nothing but experience.
