Dinosaur Bone Club

The Dinosaur Bone Club in Legendary Monsters: how to craft it from Skeletosaurus bones, its 9 damage swing, the shockwave slam and the best enchantments.

Legendary Monsters Wiki Updated 4 min read

The Dinosaur Bone Club is the weapon you make from the Skeletosaurus‘s bones, a slow, heavy club that hits for 9 and lasts 1650 swings, with a ground slam on right-click that sends shockwave rings out across the floor. It’s the mod’s first real weapon upgrade, sitting between a Diamond Sword and the late game blades, and it costs one boss kill.

The slam is what sets it apart from every other early weapon. Right-click any block and rings of shockwaves rise out of the ground around that block, each one hitting for 7, on a short enough cooldown to open every fight with. It’s a crowd tool rather than a boss tool, and it’s very good at the job.

Obtaining

The club is 2 Dinosaur Bone over a Stick at a Crafting Table, laid out like a sword. Dinosaur Bone only drops from the Skeletosaurus, 2 per kill, and the same 2 bones are what the Dinosaur Bone Shield and the Skeletosaurus Egg want, so one Skeletosaurus is one of the three.

The Skeletosaurus sleeps in a Skeletosaurus Nest in the Soul Sand Valley, and the nest is common enough that a second kill for the Shield or the egg is a short trip rather than an expedition. The boss’s own page covers the fight in full.

Where the Bones Come From

Most players make the egg first and the club second, because the Skeloraptor is unique and the club is not. If you already have a Diamond Sword with Sharpness, the club is a sidegrade for single targets and an upgrade for crowds.

Usage

In the hand the club reads 9 attack damage at 1.0 attack speed, so a full swing every second, against a Diamond Sword‘s 7 at 1.6. It has 1650 durability, repairs with Bone Blocks on an Anvil, counts as an iron tier tool, and is fire resistant, so it survives a trip into Lava.

The slow swing means waiting for the attack bar, as a half charged club doesn’t do much. It’s at its best against things that come to you, where every swing is a full one, and at its worst against anything quick.

The Shockwave

Right-click a block and shockwaves come up out of the ground around it, in three rings at 1.5, 2.5 and 3.5 blocks from where you clicked, each one hitting everything in it for 7.

The rings only rise from solid ground, so pointing at a wall or the floor both work, and clicking on air does nothing. The cooldown is 3.5 seconds and costs no durability.

Aim at the Ground Under Them

The rings spread from the block you click, not from you, so aim at the floor in the middle of a group rather than at your own feet. It reaches out to 3.5 blocks from that point, which is a wide enough circle to catch a whole pack of Zombies at once.

The shockwaves skip you, your tamed animals and anyone on your team, and they count as your attack, so Looting on the club applies to what they kill. The 7 damage doesn’t scale with Sharpness, as it’s the ring hitting rather than the club, and it’s the same 7 the Skeloraptor‘s stomp does.

Enchantments

It takes every sword enchantment at an Enchanting Table, with an enchantability of 14, which is better than Diamond gear. Sharpness makes the swing better but does nothing for the rings, Smite is worth it against the Skeletosaurus and the rest of the mod’s undead, and Mending saves you carrying Bone Blocks.

Recommended Enchantments

Sharpness V
For the swing, which is the slow part of the weapon
Looting III
Applies to everything the shockwave rings kill
Mending I
Bone Blocks repair it, but experience is easier
Unbreaking III
1650 swings goes further than it sounds

Sweeping Edge is the one to skip, because the club’s sweep is already covered by the shockwave and the slow swing rarely hits two things at once. Put the levels into Sharpness and Looting and let the rings do the crowd work.

Tips

Open every group fight with the slam and then walk in swinging. The rings rise one after another, so anything walking toward you catches two or three of them, and by the time you swing the crowd is already half dead.

Keep a faster sword on the hotbar for single targets that dodge, as a Spider or a Skeloraptor will step out of a one second swing far more often than a Zombie will. The club is for the crowd and the boss that stands still, and the sword is for everything else.

It’s also the cheapest crowd control in the mod, so it earns its slot long after its damage has been outclassed. Even with a Soul Great Sword in the main hand, a club on the hotbar for the slam is worth the space.

FAQ

How do you make the Dinosaur Bone Club?
›

Two Dinosaur Bone over a Stick at a Crafting Table, laid out like a sword. The bones drop from the Skeletosaurus in the Soul Sand Valley, 2 per kill, so one boss fight is one club, and the same bones also make the Dinosaur Bone Shield or the Skeletosaurus Egg.

What does the Dinosaur Bone Club’s ability do?
›

Right-click a block and three rings of shockwaves rise out of the ground at 1.5, 2.5 and 3.5 blocks from that block, hitting everything in them for 7. It’s on a 3.5 second cooldown, costs no durability, and skips you and your pets.

How much damage does the Dinosaur Bone Club do?
›

9 per swing at an attack speed of 1.0, so one full swing a second, plus 7 per shockwave ring from the slam. That’s more per hit than a Netherite Sword, but the sword swings faster, so on a single target the two come out about even.

How do you repair the Dinosaur Bone Club?
›

Bone Blocks on an Anvil, or Mending if you have it. It has 1650 durability and the shockwave costs none of it, so only swings wear it down, and a Bone Block is 9 Bone Meal, which is cheap.
