The Fractured Apostle is the mage of the Collapsed Kingdom, a hooded, broken figure that throws homing Phantom Daggers at you from across the hall and pulls out a ghostly knife when you get close. It has 50 health and 10 armor, so it goes down fast, but it’s placed all through the dungeon, usually behind a screen of Haunted Guards, and its daggers ignore your armor.

It isn’t a miniboss and it drops nothing you need, just a few Books and Paper, so the reason to know it is that it chips you down while you’re busy with something else. Its cousin, the Fractured, is the same body without the magic, a plain melee sweeper that fills the corridors in even bigger numbers.
Location
Fractured Apostles only exist inside the Collapsed Kingdom, the underground ruin beneath Forests, Birch Forests and Plains, and they don’t spawn naturally anywhere else. They’re placed in the dungeon rooms rather than the entrance halls, with a couple standing guard in the Possessed Paladin‘s arena itself, so you’ll meet more of them the deeper you go.
If you’d rather find the kingdom without the command, an
Eye Of Ghost made from
Soul Torches around an
Ender Pearl points to the nearest one. Throw it like an Eye of Ender, follow the direction it flies, and throw again as you get closer.
A kingdom has around a dozen Apostles spread over its rooms, plus a larger crowd of plain Fractured. None of them despawn, so a room you clear stays clear, and none of them respawn either.
Unlike the knights, the Apostle doesn’t sleep in any way that matters. It notices you from about 18 blocks and starts throwing as soon as it has a line to you, which in the long dungeon rooms means it usually opens the fight before you’ve even seen it.
Behavior
The Fractured Apostle keeps its distance when it can and throws, and it only draws the knife once you’re within a few blocks. It goes after players first, then
Iron Golems and
Snow Golems, and it won’t harm any other Collapsed Kingdom mob, as they’re all on one team. Its daggers pass through the knights and the Haunted Guards without touching them.
Attacks
There are two attacks, and which one you get depends on range. From 4 blocks or further it raises a hand and conjures a Phantom Dagger above its head that flies at you and follows you for a couple of seconds. Inside 3.5 blocks it swings a ghostly knife instead, and that’s the hit that actually hurts.
| Attack | Reach | Damage | What to Know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Phantom Dagger | 4 blocks or more | 4, ignores armor | Homes in on you for a couple of seconds, one per cast |
| Ghost Knife | 1.75 blocks | 14 | A short swing that disables your Shield for 1.5 seconds |
The dagger is ghostly damage, the same as the knights’ Soul Pillars, so it skips your armor points entirely and only Protection enchantments reduce it. On its own 4 damage is nothing, but three Apostles in a room throwing every couple of seconds adds up while you’re locked in with a Haunted Knight, and that’s exactly how the dungeon rooms are laid out.
Special Mechanics
The Apostle’s daggers look like the Possessed Paladin‘s, but they’re the weaker version. The Paladin’s daggers hit for 6, stack Soul Fracture on you and heal the boss on every hit, while the Apostle’s do none of that. An Apostle dagger is 4 armor-piercing damage and nothing more, so don’t panic when you see the same purple knives in the arena.
An Apostle can’t throw at anyone inside 4 blocks, and it only has 50 health, so the answer to one is always to run at it. Two
Diamond Sword hits finish it, and the knife it pulls out at close range is a single slow swing that you can step around.
There’s no damage cap, no anti-cheese rule and no block breaking on the Apostle, as it’s a regular mob rather than a miniboss.
Arrows and a bit of height work fine if you’d rather clear a room from the doorway. It’s immune to fire, which rules out Fire Aspect and Flame, and it has some knockback resistance, so sprint hits barely move it.
Drops
A Fractured Apostle drops up to 2 Books and up to 4 Paper, and either roll can come up empty, along with a couple of points of experience. The Books are the only mildly useful part, and only if you’re short of
Leather, as a stack of them from a full kingdom clear will feed a
Bookshelf or two.
The plain Fractured drops nothing at all, not even experience worth counting, so there is no reason to hunt either of them once the room is safe. All the real loot in the Collapsed Kingdom comes from the Haunted Knights, the Haunted Guards, the two Haunted Duo pairs and the Possessed Paladin, and the Apostles are just in the way.
Strategy
Kill Apostles first in any room that has them. They die in two hits, they can’t hurt you once you’re on top of them, and leaving one alive means eating armor-piercing daggers through the whole Haunted Knight fight. When a room has several, take them along the wall so you’re never standing in the open between two of them.
A
Bow with Power is the tidy way to handle the arena pair before you drop in, as there’s nothing stopping you shooting Apostles from range the way there is with the knights. Iron armor is enough for the knife if you’re careful, but the daggers ignore it, so any Protection at all matters more than the armor tier does.
Treat the Fractured the same way but with less urgency, since it has to walk up to you to do anything, and its one sweep for 15 is easy to see coming. The two mobs share a look, and the quick tell is the hands, as the Apostle keeps one raised to cast and the Fractured just lumbers at you.
FAQ
A weak caster mob found only in the Collapsed Kingdom. It throws homing Phantom Daggers for 4 armor-piercing damage from range and swings a ghost knife for 14 up close, but it only has 50 health and drops nothing but Books and Paper. Its cousin the Fractured is the melee-only version with 40 health.
Phantom Daggers deal ghostly damage, which Legendary Monsters sets to bypass armor, so a full Netherite set takes the same 4 as a bare player. Protection enchantments still apply and cut it down, so any Protection level is worth more against Apostles than upgrading the armor itself.
Up to 2 Books and up to 4 Paper, with either able to roll zero, plus a couple of experience points. Nothing from the Apostle goes into any Legendary Monsters recipe, and the plain Fractured drops nothing at all. The
Somber Key parts and
Metal Debris come from the Haunted Duo knights, not from these.
No, it has no natural spawns in any biome and it’s only placed by the Collapsed Kingdom structure, mostly in the dungeon rooms and the boss arena. Once you’ve killed the ones a kingdom generated with, there are no more, as it doesn’t respawn and can’t despawn either.
