Warden Tools are the
Warden Sword,
Warden Axe,
Warden Pickaxe,
Warden Shovel and
Warden Hoe from the Deeper and Darker mod, which you’ll make by upgrading Netherite tools at a
Smithing Table. Each one takes a
Warden Upgrade Smithing Template and a
Reinforced Echo Shard, the same as the armor does.
They hit a point harder than Netherite, mine faster and have more durability, with 2,519 uses each against 2,031. There’s nothing special about how they work beyond that, so you’ll mostly be making them to get a little more out of your Netherite tools once you’ve got
Warden Carapace to spare.
Where to Get It
Warden Tools can’t be found in chests, so every one has to be upgraded from a Netherite tool. The template comes from Ancient City chests, and the Reinforced Echo Shard is crafted from Warden Carapace, which the Warden drops 1 to 3 of each time you kill one.

Each shard takes 4 Warden Carapace, so the five tools will cost you 20 of them, on top of the 16 you’d need for the Warden Armor. It’s worth deciding which tools you’ll actually use first, as the Sword and Pickaxe get far more use than the Hoe.
Crafting
Every tool is made at a Smithing Table, with the Warden Upgrade Smithing Template in the first slot, the Netherite tool in the second and a Reinforced Echo Shard in the third. It works the same as upgrading Diamond tools to Netherite, and the template and shard are both used up.
Enchantments on the Netherite tool will carry over to the Warden one, so you won’t lose anything by upgrading a tool you’ve already enchanted. You can copy a template by crafting it with 7
Diamonds and 1
Sculk, which gives you 2 back.
The Shovel and Hoe are upgraded the same way, from a
Netherite Shovel and a
Netherite Hoe. It’s worth leaving these two until last, as each one still costs a full template and shard.
Reinforced Echo Shards
The
Reinforced Echo Shard is crafted from 4 Warden Carapace, 4
Phantom Membranes and an
Echo Shard, so you’ll want a stack of Phantom Membranes saved up as well. Echo Shards turn up in Ancient City chests, which is handy, as you’ll be looting those for templates anyway.
Stats
The damage below is what each tool’s tooltip shows, which already includes the base damage every player has. Each one deals a point more than its Netherite version at the same attack speed, apart from the Hoe, which deals the same.
| Tool | Attack Damage | Attack Speed | Netherite Damage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warden Sword | 9 | 1.6 | 8 |
| Warden Axe | 11 | 1.0 | 10 |
| Warden Pickaxe | 7 | 1.2 | 6 |
| Warden Shovel | 7.5 | 1.0 | 6.5 |
| Warden Hoe | 1 | 4.0 | 1 |
They mine a little faster than Netherite and can break any block a Netherite tool can, like
Obsidian and
Ancient Debris. Like Netherite, they won’t burn up if you drop them in Lava, and you can repair them with Reinforced Echo Shards at an
Anvil.

Their enchantability is 18 against Netherite’s 15, so an
Enchanting Table is a bit more likely to give you higher levels. Since repairs cost Warden Carapace, Mending is worth getting onto any tool you’ll be using every day.
Special Effects
Sculk Smite
The tools don’t have any abilities of their own, so everything extra comes from how you enchant them. The mod adds Sculk Smite for the Sword and Axe, which adds 2.5 damage per level against sculk mobs like the Shattered and the Warden, in place of Sharpness.
Catalysis
There’s also Catalysis, which spreads sculk around a mob when you kill it, but it’s a treasure enchantment, so it won’t come from an Enchanting Table. The Enchantments page has the full details for both, along with the two for the Sonorous Staff.
FAQ
Upgrade a Netherite tool at a Smithing Table with a Warden Upgrade Smithing Template and a Reinforced Echo Shard. The template is found in Ancient City chests, and the shard is crafted from 4 Warden Carapace, 4 Phantom Membranes and an Echo Shard, which means killing a Warden first.
The Warden Sword deals 9 attack damage at an attack speed of 1.6, which is one more than a Netherite Sword. Sculk Smite will add 2.5 damage per level on top of that against sculk mobs, like the Shattered, the Stalker and the Warden itself.
It mines a little faster, has 2,519 durability against 2,031 and takes enchantments slightly better, but it breaks the same blocks. The difference is small, so it’s mostly worth making once you’ve already got the Warden Carapace for your armor.
Warden tools are repaired with Reinforced Echo Shards at an Anvil, the same way you’d repair Netherite tools with Netherite Ingots. As each shard costs 4 Warden Carapace, Mending is a cheaper way to keep them going, and it works on all five of them.
