The Anger Pot, Fear Pot and Sorrow Pot are three hostile mobs from the Deeper and Darker mod that look like living
Gloomslate Pots. They’re living pots that leap at you and bite, and each of them drops Gloomsherds when it’s killed, which are the patterned shards used to decorate a Gloomslate Pot.
All three were added in 1.4, so they aren’t in the 1.20.1 version of the mod, which stops at 1.3.3. Even on 1.4.1, they don’t spawn anywhere in the world yet, so the only way you’ll see one is with a Spawn Egg in Creative or a command.
Spawning
None of the three Pots have a natural spawn in 1.4.1, as they aren’t on the spawn list of any biome or structure. Their code is named after the Overcast Columns, but that biome doesn’t spawn any mobs at all in this version, so there’s nowhere in a Survival world for them to appear on their own.
For now, you’ll find their Spawn Eggs in the Creative inventory, as the
Anger Pot Spawn Egg,
Fear Pot Spawn Egg and
Sorrow Pot Spawn Egg. You can also summon them with a command, which is handy if you’re building a map or testing a farm.
Swapping the end of that command for fear_pot or sorrow_pot will summon the other two instead. Since they’re hostile, they won’t do anything in Creative, so you’ll need to switch to Survival to see them attack.
Behavior
All three Pots are hostile, and they’ll go after the nearest player they can see. They leap at you from a short distance before biting, and each bite deals 5 damage on Normal, which is the same for all three of them, so the only real difference between them is how much health they have.
| Mob | Health | Damage | Shape |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anger Pot | 40 | 5 | Wide and low |
| Fear Pot | 30 | 5 | Tall and thin |
| Sorrow Pot | 20 | 5 | Small |
The Anger Pot is the toughest of the three, with twice the health of the Sorrow Pot, while the Fear Pot sits in between. They move a little faster than a Zombie, so you won’t have trouble keeping up with them or getting away if you need to.
Sculk Mobs
The Pots count as sculk mobs, so weapons with Sculk Smite will deal extra damage to them, and other sculk mobs like the Shattered won’t attack them. They aren’t part of the Sculk Slayer advancement, though, so you won’t need to track them down for it.
Drops
The Pots drop Gloomsherds when they die, picked at random from all nine kinds, so it can take a few kills to get the ones you want. The two bigger Pots can drop more than one at a time, which makes them the better ones to fight.
| Mob | Gloomsherds Dropped |
|---|---|
| Anger Pot | 1-2 |
| Fear Pot | 1-2 |
| Sorrow Pot | 1 |
Each one is just as likely as the others, whether it’s a plain
Gloomsherd or a patterned one like the
Snapper Gloomsherd or the
Temple Gloomsherd. Since the Pots don’t spawn naturally,
Crystallized Amber is the only Survival source, and it only holds the Brittle, Temple, Ward and Wayfinder Gloomsherds, so the other five can only be found by fighting Pots from a Spawn Egg.
Making a Gloomslate Pot
Four Gloomsherds placed in a diamond shape in a Crafting Table make a
Gloomslate Pot, with each sherd’s pattern showing on one side. It works a lot like a Decorated Pot, as you can store a stack of a single item inside it, and it’ll wobble when you put something in.
FAQ
They don’t spawn naturally in 1.4.1, as no biome or structure has them on its spawn list yet. You can only get one from a Spawn Egg in Creative or by using a /summon command, and they aren’t in the 1.20.1 version at all.
They drop random Gloomsherds, with the Anger Pot and Fear Pot dropping one or two and the Sorrow Pot dropping one. Any of the nine kinds can drop, and they’re used to craft Gloomslate Pots.
They all bite for 5 damage and leap at you the same way, so the difference is in their health and shape. The Anger Pot has 40 health, the Fear Pot has 30 and the Sorrow Pot has 20.
They were added in 1.4, which only came out for NeoForge on 1.21.1, so the 1.20.1 version doesn’t have them. The same goes for Gloomsherds and the Gloomslate Pot, which arrived in the same update.
