Warden Armor is a set of armor from the Deeper and Darker mod that you’ll make by upgrading Netherite Armor at a
Smithing Table, with a
Warden Upgrade Smithing Template and a
Reinforced Echo Shard for each piece. Both of these come from the Warden and the Ancient Cities it guards, so you’ll need to have fought one before you’re able to make any of it.
With all four pieces on you’ll have 24 armor points and 16 toughness, against 20 and 12 for Netherite, and the
Warden Helmet keeps Blindness and Darkness off you. The
Warden Leggings make you walk faster as well, while the
Warden Boots stop your footsteps from setting off Sculk Sensors, which is handy in Ancient Cities.
Where to Get It
You won’t find Warden Armor anywhere, as every piece has to be upgraded from the matching piece of Netherite Armor. For each one you’ll need a
Warden Upgrade Smithing Template, which turns up in Ancient City chests, and a
Reinforced Echo Shard, which is crafted from the
Warden Carapace the Warden drops.

The Warden drops 1 to 3 Warden Carapace every time it dies, and Ancient City chests have a 20% chance of holding one too. Each Reinforced Echo Shard takes 4 of them, so the whole set of armor will cost you 16 Warden Carapace, which usually means fighting more than one Warden.
Crafting
Each piece is made at a
Smithing Table, with the template in the first slot, the Netherite piece in the second and a Reinforced Echo Shard in the third. It works just like upgrading Diamond to Netherite, and the template and shard are both used up.
Any enchantments already on the Netherite piece will carry over to the Warden one, along with any damage it’s taken, so it’s fine to enchant your Netherite Armor first. You don’t have to upgrade the whole set at once either, as each piece works on its own.
Copying the Template
You’re able to copy a template by crafting it with 7
Diamonds and 1
Sculk, which gives you 2 templates back. The four pieces take a template each, so it’s worth copying the first one you find rather than searching every chest in the city for more.
Reinforced Echo Shards
A Reinforced Echo Shard takes 4 Warden Carapace and 4
Phantom Membranes around an
Echo Shard, which you’ll also find in Ancient City chests. There’s more on the recipe and what else the shard is used for on the Reinforced Echo Shard page.
Stats
Every piece has one more armor point and one more toughness than its Netherite version, so heavy hits like a Creeper explosion or a punch from the Warden will do less damage to you. Each piece also has the same 10% knockback resistance as Netherite, which adds up to 40% with all four on.
| Piece | Armor | Toughness | Durability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warden Helmet | 4 | 4 | 440 |
| Warden Chestplate | 9 | 4 | 640 |
| Warden Leggings | 7 | 4 | 600 |
| Warden Boots | 4 | 4 | 520 |
| Full Set | 24 | 16 | – |
The pieces last longer than Netherite too, and they won’t burn up if you drop them in Lava, the same as Netherite. You can repair them with Reinforced Echo Shards at an
Anvil, though each shard costs 4 Warden Carapace, so Mending is a much cheaper way to keep the set going.
It takes enchantments a little better than Netherite as well, with an enchantability of 18 against 15, so an
Enchanting Table is a bit more likely to give you higher levels. Every armor enchantment works on it, like Protection and Mending, the same as on any vanilla set.
Special Effects
Three of the four pieces do something on top of their armor, and none of them need the full set, so you’re able to mix Warden pieces with other armor if you only want one or two of these. Each one works as soon as it’s on, which is handy if you’re short on Warden Carapace.
Warden Helmet, which removes Blindness and Darkness as soon as you get them, including the Darkness that Sculk Shriekers and the Warden give you
Warden Leggings, which make you move about 50% faster than normal, and this stacks with Speed
Warden Boots, which stop your steps, landings and swimming from making vibrations, so
Sculk Sensors and
Sculk Shriekers won’t hear you moving around
The boots don’t hide everything, as opening Chests, placing blocks and breaking them will still give off vibrations. You’ll want to be careful around Sculk Shriekers while you’re looting, as setting one off enough times will summon the Warden, whereas the Sculk Affinity effect hides every vibration you make.
FAQ
It’s made at a Smithing Table by upgrading each piece of Netherite Armor with a Warden Upgrade Smithing Template and a Reinforced Echo Shard. The template comes from Ancient City chests, and the shard is crafted from 4 Warden Carapace, 4 Phantom Membranes and an Echo Shard, so you’ll need to kill a Warden or two first.
Each piece has one more armor point and one more toughness than Netherite, which comes to 24 armor and 16 toughness for the set, and it lasts longer too. On top of that the helmet blocks Blindness and Darkness, the leggings make you faster and the boots hide your footsteps from sculk.
Each Reinforced Echo Shard takes 4 Warden Carapace, and every piece needs one shard, so the four armor pieces take 16 in total. If you want the Warden tools as well, that’s another 20, as there are five of them, which comes to 36 for everything.
The Warden Helmet removes Blindness and Darkness from you as soon as they’re applied, which includes the Darkness from Sculk Shriekers and the Warden. It works on its own, so you don’t need the rest of the set on for it, and it has 4 armor points, which is one more than a Netherite Helmet.
