The
Sculk Transmitter is a rare tool from the Deeper and Darker mod that lets you open a Chest, Furnace or other workstation from anywhere, once you’ve linked it to that block. You’ll only find it in the secret room of an Ancient Temple in the Otherside, as there’s no way to craft one.
It’s the item most players are hoping for when they go looking for temples, since being able to reach your storage or a
Crafting Table in the middle of a mining trip saves a lot of walking. It also comes with a keybind of its own, so you don’t even need to have it in your hand to use it.
Obtaining
Every Sculk Transmitter comes from the Chest in the secret room of an Ancient Temple, which always has exactly one inside. The secret room is one of eight pieces the temple can use for each of the four aisles in its basement, so only around two in five temples will have one at all.

If a temple doesn’t have one, it’s worth finding another rather than digging around for a room that isn’t there. The
Ancient Compass will point you to the nearest temple once you’re in the Otherside, and the same Chest can also hold
Echo Shards,
Diamonds and a rare
Warden Upgrade Smithing Template.
How to Use It
Right-click a compatible block with an unlinked Sculk Transmitter to link it, and you’ll hear a sound and see a message to confirm it worked. Hovering over the Transmitter in your inventory will then show the name of the block, its coordinates and the dimension it’s in.

From then on, right-clicking with it will open the linked block wherever you are, the same as if you’d walked up and used it. The screen stays open for as long as the Transmitter is somewhere in your inventory, and you’re able to move items in and out of a Chest or smelt in a
Furnace as normal.
- Link: right-click a compatible block while the Transmitter isn’t linked yet
- Open: right-click anywhere, or press the Use Sculk Transmitter key (V by default)
- Relink: sneak and right-click a different compatible block
- Unlink: sneak and right-click while not looking at a compatible block
The keybind is the handiest way to use it, as it opens the first linked Transmitter in your offhand or anywhere in your inventory, so it never needs to take up a hotbar slot. If the linked block has been broken or swapped for something else, you’ll get a message that it’s missing and the link will be cleared.
Opening a linked block sends out a vibration from where you’re standing, so a nearby
Sculk Sensor or
Sculk Shrieker will pick it up. Be careful using it in an Ancient City, unless you have Sculk Affinity active.
Range and Dimensions
There’s no distance limit, and the Transmitter remembers which dimension its block is in, so a Chest in your Overworld base can be opened from the Otherside or the Nether. This is a change from the 1.20.1 version of the mod, where the Transmitter only works inside the same dimension and needs the block’s area to be loaded.
Compatible Blocks
The Transmitter only links to storage blocks and workstations, and anything else will give you a message saying it can’t be linked. That covers every Chest, Barrel and furnace that other mods add as well, as long as they’re tagged the same way as the vanilla ones.
| Type | Blocks |
|---|---|
| Storage | Chest, Trapped Chest, Barrel, every Shulker Box |
| Redstone | Dispenser, Dropper, Hopper |
| Smelting | Furnace, Smoker, Blast Furnace |
| Workstations | Crafting Table, Stonecutter, Cartography Table, Smithing Table, Grindstone, Loom |
| Magic | Enchanting Table, Brewing Stand, Beacon, every Anvil |
Linking it to an
Enchanting Table will use whatever Bookshelves are around the table itself, so you’re able to enchant at full level from anywhere. An
Anvil works the same way, which means you’re able to repair or rename your gear in the middle of a cave, and the Anvil back at base takes the wear instead.
Dyed Sculk Transmitters
Crafting a Sculk Transmitter together with any dye will give you a colored version, and there’s one for each of the sixteen dye colors. It keeps its link when you dye it, and every color works exactly the same, so it’s purely to help you tell several Transmitters apart.
This is handy once you’ve found a few, as you can color each one by the block it’s linked to, like a white one for your main Chest and an orange one for a Furnace. Dyed Transmitters were added in 1.4, so they aren’t in the 1.20.1 version of the mod, which stops at 1.3.3.
FAQ
Right-click a Chest or workstation with it to link the two, then right-click anywhere to open that block remotely. You can also press V, the default Use Sculk Transmitter key, which opens it from your inventory without holding it, and sneaking while you right-click lets you relink or unlink it.
It’s found in the Chest of the secret room in an Ancient Temple, which always holds one. Only around two in five temples have a secret room, so you might need to explore a few, and the Ancient Compass is a big help with finding them.
It links to storage blocks like Chests, Barrels, Shulker Boxes and Hoppers, and to workstations like the Crafting Table, Furnace, Anvil, Enchanting Table and Brewing Stand. Trying to link it to anything else will show a message saying the block can’t be linked.
In the 1.21.1 version it does, as the Transmitter saves the dimension along with the block, so you’re able to open an Overworld Chest from the Otherside. On 1.20.1 it only works within the same dimension, and the block’s area needs to be loaded.
