Resonarium Armor is a set of armor from the Deeper and Darker mod that takes the damage you’d normally take into its own durability. You’ll make it by upgrading Diamond Armor at a
Smithing Table with
Resonarium Plates, which come from the Sludges of the Blooming Caverns.
Each piece you wear blocks a quarter of the damage from a hit, so with all four on, attacks that armor can stop won’t hurt you at all. The catch is that every hit wears the armor down instead, so it’ll break a lot sooner than Diamond does, and it can’t be given Mending or any kind of Protection.
Where to Get It
You won’t find the armor in chests, as each piece is upgraded from Diamond. That takes a Resonarium Plate, which is crafted from 4
Resonarium and 4 Scutes, and a
Resonarium Upgrade Smithing Template, which you’ll find in chests around the Overworld and the Otherside.

Resonarium only drops from the smallest Sludges, which split off when you kill a bigger one, and each gives you 0 to 1 with a bit more from Looting. The Scutes can be either
Armadillo Scutes or
Turtle Scutes, so it’s easier to brush a few Armadillos than to breed Turtles.
Finding the Template
The template has a 45% chance of being in an Ancient City chest, a 32% chance in a Stronghold corridor chest and a 28% chance in the common reward from a Trial Chambers Vault. The top chests of an Ancient Temple can have one as well, though it’s a lot rarer there.
Once you’ve got one, you’re able to copy it by crafting it with 7
Diamonds and 1 Resonarium, which gives you 2 templates back. There’s more on the materials and the template recipe on the Resonarium page.
Crafting
Each piece is made at a Smithing Table, with the Resonarium Upgrade Smithing Template in the first slot, the matching Diamond piece in the second and a Resonarium Plate in the third. The whole set takes 4 plates, which comes to 16 Resonarium and 16 Scutes.
This changed in 1.4, as the 1.20.1 version of the mod (which stops at 1.3.3) upgrades Iron Armor with a plate and no template at all. The pieces there are weaker too, with 18 armor points for the set and 1 toughness per piece.
Stats
The armor points and toughness are the same as a set of Diamond, at 20 armor and 2 toughness per piece. The durability is a little lower than Diamond though, which matters more here than on other armor, as the pieces wear down every time you take a hit.
| Piece | Armor | Toughness | Durability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Resonarium Helmet | 3 | 2 | 330 |
| Resonarium Chestplate | 8 | 2 | 480 |
| Resonarium Leggings | 6 | 2 | 450 |
| Resonarium Boots | 3 | 2 | 390 |
| Full Set | 20 | 8 | – |
You’ll repair it with Resonarium at an
Anvil, where each piece of Resonarium restores a quarter of the durability. It’s worth keeping a few spare from your Sludge hunting for this, as you’ll be repairing the set a lot more often than you’d expect.
Special Effects
Every piece of Resonarium Armor you’re wearing takes away a quarter of the damage from a hit, after your armor points have already reduced it. Two pieces will halve what you take, and with all four on, the hit won’t hurt you at all, as long as it’s a kind of damage that armor is able to block.
Instead of hurting you, each piece loses durability based on how hard the hit was, and normal armor wear doesn’t apply to it. That makes a big hit like an explosion expensive, as it’ll take a chunk out of every piece at the same time.
What It Doesn’t Block
The effect only works on damage that armor reduces, like melee hits, arrows, explosions and Lava. Anything that goes straight through armor will still hurt you, which includes falling, burning after you’ve caught fire, drowning, Poison and other magic, Wither, starving and freezing.
The Warden’s sonic boom goes through armor as well, so Resonarium won’t help you there, and neither will it stop a Sonorous Staff blast. It’s worth remembering in an Ancient City, as the Warden will fire its sonic boom whenever it can’t reach you in melee.
Enchanting
Resonarium Armor can’t be enchanted at an
Enchanting Table, so you’ll have to use Enchanted Books at an Anvil. Mending and every kind of Protection are blocked, but Unbreaking, Thorns and the rest will still go on it.
Unbreaking is the one that matters most here, as it cuts down the durability every hit costs you. Feather Falling is worth adding to the boots too, since fall damage gets through the armor’s effect.
FAQ
Upgrade each piece of Diamond Armor at a Smithing Table with a Resonarium Upgrade Smithing Template and a Resonarium Plate. The plate is crafted from 4 Resonarium and 4 Scutes, and the Resonarium comes from the smallest Sludges in the Blooming Caverns of the Otherside.
Each piece you wear blocks a quarter of the damage from every hit, so a full set stops attacks like melee hits, arrows and explosions completely. The armor loses durability instead, and it doesn’t help against damage that ignores armor, like falling, burning or the Warden’s sonic boom.
The mod blocks Mending, Protection, Blast Protection, Fire Protection and Projectile Protection on Resonarium Armor, and it can’t be enchanted at an Enchanting Table at all. You’re able to repair it with Resonarium at an Anvil instead, and Unbreaking helps it last longer between repairs.
It has the same 20 armor points and toughness as Diamond, with slightly less durability, but each piece also blocks a quarter of every hit. That makes it far tougher in a fight, whereas Diamond lasts longer and can take Mending and Protection.
