The Shattered is a hostile mob from the Deeper and Darker mod, and you’ll find it wandering through the Echoing Forest and the Deeplands of the Otherside. It’s a tall, blind sculk creature that’s a lot like a smaller Warden, as it can’t see you at all and has to find you by listening for the noise you make.
It has 50 health, which is 25 hearts, and it moves slowly until it hears something, so it’s easy enough to deal with once you know how it works. You’ll want to fight a few of them, though, as they’re where the
Sculk Bones for the
Soul Elytra and the
Sonorous Staff come from.
Spawning
The Shattered spawns in groups of two to five in the Echoing Forest, where it’s the most common mob you’ll run into. It turns up in the Deeplands as well, in smaller groups, though it’s a lot rarer there than the Sculk Snappers that share the biome with it.

Some of the rooms in an Ancient Temple have a Shattered placed inside them too, so you’ll often meet a few while you’re exploring one. These don’t respawn once they’ve been killed, but the ones in the Echoing Forest will keep spawning like any other hostile mob.
You can copy either of the commands above to find the nearest one if you have cheats turned on. Both biomes are part of the Otherside, which you’ll reach through the Otherside Portal in an Ancient City.
Behavior
The Shattered is blind, so it listens for the same sounds the Warden does, like footsteps, Chests being opened and blocks being placed or broken. Any of these within 16 blocks will get its attention, and if a player or a mob made the noise, it’ll come straight for them and start attacking.

Each hit deals 6 damage on Normal, and it has 3.5 armor, so it’ll take a few more hits than a Zombie would. Sneaking will stop your footsteps from being heard, and
Warden Boots or Sculk Affinity work as well, which means you’re able to walk past a whole group without them noticing.
Hitting a Shattered will always make it target you, even if you were sneaking, so it’s best to only start a fight you’re ready to finish. It won’t go after other sculk mobs, like Sculk Snappers or the Warden, as they’re all on the same side.
Distracting a Shattered
When the noise doesn’t come from anyone, like an arrow or a Snowball landing on the ground, it’ll walk over to check the spot instead. It’s a handy way to lead one away from where you’re working, and it moves faster than usual while it’s heading toward a sound.
Drops
The Shattered only has one drop, but it always drops at least one, so it doesn’t take many of them to build up a stack. It’s the only mob in the mod that drops this item, which makes it the one to look for in the Echoing Forest.
Each Shattered drops one to three
Sculk Bones, and Looting adds up to one more per level. You’ll need four of them for the
Soul Elytra and another two for the
Sonorous Staff, so it’s worth collecting a good few while you’re out there.
Sculk Slayer and Sculk Smite
It’s also one of the mobs you’ll need to kill for the Sculk Slayer advancement, along with the Stalker and the Warden. Any weapon with Sculk Smite on it will deal extra damage to a Shattered, which helps when there’s a group of them coming at you.
FAQ
They spawn in groups in the Echoing Forest, which is where you’ll find the most of them, and less often in the Deeplands. A few are also placed in the rooms of Ancient Temples, so you’ll usually see some while you’re exploring one.
Each one drops one to three
Sculk Bones, with up to one more for each level of Looting. These are used to make the Soul Elytra and the Sonorous Staff, and no other mob in the mod drops them.
Killing Shattered is the main way to get Sculk Bones, as each one drops one to three. You’ll also find them in the chests at the top and bottom of Ancient Temples, and every so often inside a block of Crystallized Amber.
They’re blind, so they hunt by sound like the Warden, and they’ll only come after you if you make noise within 16 blocks or hit them. Sneaking past them keeps your footsteps quiet, and Warden Boots will do the same thing while you walk normally.
