Blooming Caverns

The Blooming Caverns is a biome in the Otherside, the cave dimension from the Deeper and Darker mod, and it's the brightest part of it, with glowing plants on the floor and ceiling and a teal Blooming Sculk Stone floor. It has the only open water in the dimension, small pools where Angler Fish swim and Ice Lilies float, while Sludge bounce around on the dry ground. This is where you'll pick Bloom Berries from the Glowing Vines, shear Lily Flowers off the lilies, and chop the twisting Blooming Stems that craft into Bloom Planks. Keep an eye on the floor, as Sculk Jaws and Infested Sculk generate here too.

The Blooming Caverns is a biome from the Deeper and Darker mod, and it’s the cold, wet part of the Otherside, which is the dimension you’ll get to through the portal in an Ancient City. It’s the brightest biome down there, with glowing plants on the floor and ceiling, teal Blooming Sculk Stone underfoot and pools of water that you won’t see anywhere else in the dimension.

Those pools are where the Angler Fish live, and Sludge will bounce around the shore near them, so it’s a lot busier than it looks at first. It’s also where you’re able to gather Bloom Berries, Ice Lilies and Blooming Stems, and since the stems are the only way to get Bloom wood, it’s worth a visit even if you don’t plan on staying.

Finding It

The Blooming Caverns is the cold and wet one of the four biomes in the Otherside, and with its teal floor and soft glow, it’s easy enough to tell apart from the dark Deeplands. Like the rest of the dimension, it’s all inside one big cavern between a Bedrock floor and roof, so you’ll find it at whatever height the ground happens to be.

If cheats are on, the command above will point you to the closest one. Otherwise, look for the pale glow of Glowing Roots and berries in the distance, as nothing else in the Otherside gives off light quite so close to the ground.

Terrain

The floor is made of Blooming Sculk Stone, which will drop Cobbled Sculk Stone unless you mine it with Silk Touch, and under that it’s the usual Sculk Stone. You’ll see patches of Blooming Moss Block spread across it as well, and tall Blooming Stems climb up out of the ground, bending off to the side every so often as they grow.

Glowing Roots grow up from the floor in large numbers, Glowing Vines hang down from the roof, and you’ll find Glowing Grass and Glowing Flowers on the Blooming Sculk Stone. Each of them is covered on the Otherside plants page, along with what you’re able to do with them.

Water Pools

The pools are the main thing that sets this biome apart, as they’re the only open water you’ll find out in the Otherside’s caverns. They’re small and irregular, a few blocks deep, with a rim of Blooming Sculk Stone around the edge and the odd tuft of waterlogged Glowing Grass on the bottom.

Ice Lilies

Ice Lilies float on the surface of some pools, and about half of them carry a Lily Flower you’re able to shear off without breaking the pad. A boat will break any Ice Lily it runs into, so it’s better to walk around the edge than sail across if you’re after the flowers.

Since the pools are the only water down here, they’re worth remembering if you need to fill a Water Bucket, or if you’d like to grow anything that needs water. A pool only forms where the ground around it is all Blooming Caverns as well, so you’ll find them in the middle of the biome rather than at its edges.

Mobs

Three mobs spawn in the Blooming Caverns, and two of them are found nowhere else. The Angler Fish live in the pools in groups of three to five, while Sludge spawn on dry land along with the odd Sculk Snapper.

It’s worth checking the floor here too, as Infested Sculk and the Sculk Jaw both generate in this biome. The glowing plants make them a little easier to spot than in the Deeplands, but it’s still a good idea to walk carefully across any patch of plain Sculk.

Resources

Bloom Berries grow on some of the Glowing Vines, and you’ll be able to pick them by using the vine. Each one restores a little hunger and usually makes you glow for a few seconds, and they’re also how you plant new Glowing Vines, by placing a berry on the underside of a block.

Blooming Stems are the Otherside’s other kind of wood, as they craft into Bloom Planks for the full Bloom wood set. A stem you place on Blooming Sculk Stone will keep growing upward and branching out, and the Echo and Bloom wood page has the details.

All of the Overworld ores generate in the Sculk Stone walls as well, so it’s worth mining a little while you’re gathering plants. The Diamond and Emerald Ore here are the same Sculk Stone versions you’ll find in the Deeplands, and they drop the normal items.

FAQ

Where are the Blooming Caverns in Deeper and Darker?
›

The Blooming Caverns is one of the four biomes in the Otherside, which you’ll get to through the portal in an Ancient City. You’ll know you’re there when the floor turns teal and there’s glowing plants and pools of water all around you, and if cheats are on, /locate biome deeperdarker:blooming_caverns will take you to the closest one.

What spawns in the Blooming Caverns?
›

Angler Fish spawn in the water pools in groups of three to five, and Sludge spawn on the dry ground, which are the only two mobs that are unique to this biome. The odd Sculk Snapper turns up as well, though they’re a lot rarer here than in the Deeplands.

How do you get Bloom Berries?
›

Bloom Berries grow on the Glowing Vines that hang from the roof of the Blooming Caverns, and you can pick them by using a vine that has berries on it. Using Bone Meal on a bare section of vine will grow a new berry there, which makes them easy to farm once you’ve planted a few.
