The
Angler's Hat is an artifact from the Artifacts mod, which Reliquified Artifacts turns into a Relic that's worn in the Head slot. Every time that you reel in a catch it has a chance to pull up more, and it'll keep rolling that chance until it misses.

This is the Reliquified Artifacts beta for Minecraft 1.21.1, which needs the Relics 0.12 beta and was checked against version 1.0.9. It's still being worked on by the developer, and the numbers might change in a later build.
The
Angler's Hat has been rebuilt for the Relics beta around one ability called Lucky Catch, which still gives you a chance at extra catches. It'll pick up more as the Relic ranks up, like eating fish faster, healing from them and turning fish into valuable items.

Obtaining
You'll find the
Angler's Hat inside Chests on 1.20.1 in Shipwrecks, Ocean Ruins and Buried Treasure, as well as in every Chest in a Village. Each of these Chests has its own 2.5% chance to hold one, and it's rolled separately from every other Relic.
The biome doesn't matter on 1.20.1, as it's the kind of structure that counts. That means modded Villages and watery structures like shipwrecks are able to have it as well, so they're worth checking alongside the vanilla ones.
You'll find the
Angler's Hat in any Chest on 1.21.1 that's in an ocean, beach or river biome, as well as in every Village and Pillager Outpost Chest. Around a third of Chests will have a Relic inside, which gets picked from every Relic that matches.
| Where | Chance | Roughly |
|---|---|---|
| Shipwreck or Buried Treasure | 3% | 1 in 33 |
| Savanna Village | 2.6% | 1 in 39 |
| Plains Village and Pillager Outpost | 2.5% | 1 in 41 |
| Cold Ocean Ruin | 2.2% | 1 in 45 |
These are the chances with only Relics and Reliquified Artifacts installed. Any other add-on that has Relics of its own will join the same pick, which is going to lower them a little.
You'll only find the
Angler's Hat in Chests that are in an ocean, beach or river biome in the beta, which means Villages don't have it anymore. It's only one Chest in five that will have something inside, and Shipwrecks and Buried Treasure are the best places to look.
| Where | Chance | Roughly |
|---|---|---|
| Shipwreck or Buried Treasure | 2% | 1 in 50 |
| Cold Ocean Ruin | 1.8% | 1 in 55 |
These are the chances with only Relics and Reliquified Artifacts installed. Any other add-on that has Relics of its own will join the same pick, which is going to lower them a little.
Deep underground you might come across one of the Campsites that the Artifacts mod adds, and its Chest still rolls for a random artifact on every version. The Hat is one of the items it can give, although it's a long shot in any single Chest.
Around a third of those Campsites have a Mimic waiting in place of the Chest, which drops one random Relic from the add-on's list once it's killed. You're also able to turn a Chest of unwanted Relics into a Mimic with Mimi-Dust, made from Glowstone Dust, Redstone and an Echo Shard, to reroll them.
Relic Quality & Rerolling
Each stat on a new Relic is rolled between a lowest and a highest value, which is shown by the stars under its portrait. If you aren't happy with them, an ability can be rerolled as many times as you'd like, with all of its stats being rolled again.
A reroll costs 100 experience points for an ability with one stat, and it gets cheaper for the ones that have more. You'll pay 50 for an ability with two stats, or 25 if it has four of them.
Each stat on a new Relic is rolled between a lowest and a highest value, which is shown by the stars under its portrait. An ability can be rerolled for 50 experience points, but the new roll might turn out worse than the one you had.
Whenever a reroll comes out worse, you'll gain some Luck, which makes better rolls more likely from then on. Every point of Luck adds 5 experience points to the cost of a reroll though, and you're able to hold Shift to keep rerolling until it's perfect.
Each stat on a new Relic is rolled between a lowest and a highest value, and they're all rolled separately. An ability can be rerolled for 150 experience points, which will always give a different result, but it might be a worse one.
Usage
With the
Angler's Hat on, every catch that you reel in with a Fishing Rod will roll for an extra one, and each success rolls again until one misses. The extra catches fly out of the water toward you like the normal one, and each of them brings some Experience Orbs as well.
Those extra catches are rolled without your fishing hook, which means they'll only ever be fish or junk, as treasure like Enchanted Books needs open water. They don't use Luck of the Sea from your rod either, so it's still only your first catch that gets the enchantment.
It's worn in the Head slot, which it shares with every other hat, like the
Cowboy Hat, as well as the
Snorkel and the
Whoopee Cushion. You'll want to swap it on for a fishing trip and then back off again, as it doesn't do anything else.
On 1.21.1, Generous Catch won't do anything until its constellation has been solved in the research screen, which means a new Hat won't add any extra catches at first. It's the only ability that it has, so that's the first thing that you'll want to do with one.
Lucky Catch still rolls for extra catches in the beta, but it'll stop once it reaches the most that's shown on its card. The extra catches are still rolled without your hook, which means they'll be fish or junk, like on the release versions.
Rank 1 lets you eat any fish twice as fast, and rank 3 heals you each time that you finish eating one, which makes a stack of Cooked Cod a quick way to top up your health. Pufferfish count as well, as they're eaten like any other fish.
Rank 5 gives every fish you pull up a chance to turn into something valuable instead, like Raw Iron, an Amethyst Shard, a Nautilus Shell or even a Heart of the Sea. It can give you an Echo Shard as well, which is one of the ingredients needed for Mimi-Dust.
Abilities
There's one ability on the
Angler's Hat, and it'll reach Relic level 10, which gives you 10 Upgrade Points. Generous Catch goes up to level 10 at 1 point a level, which means you're able to max it out with every point.

| Stat | Starting Roll | At Ability Level 10 | Your Relic |
|---|---|---|---|
| Extra Catch Chance | 10 to 20% | 35 to 70% |
A new Hat will roll between 10% and 20%, and each point will add a quarter of what was rolled, which takes a perfect roll to 70% at level 10. That chance is rolled again after every success, so at the top end it's common to get two or three extra catches at once.
Upgrading an ability will take Upgrade Points, along with some of your own experience points, which goes up with every level. Resetting one costs 50 experience points for each level that it had, and you'll be given all of its points back.

The
Angler's Hat only has Lucky Catch in the beta, and it costs 1 Upgrade Point a level, so it's able to reach level 10 at Relic level 10. Ranking it up will raise that cap and unlock the extra effects that are listed on the card.

Healing and Treasure Chance won't do anything until rank 3 and rank 5, even though their numbers are already shown on the card. Most Extra Catches is a cap on the rolls, which means a lucky streak will stop there, however high your chance is.

Ranks have been added on top of levels in the beta. Once a Relic has reached its maximum level, it's able to be ranked up, which raises the level cap on its abilities and unlocks the extra effects that are listed on them.
Constellations
Generous Catch has a constellation on 1.21.1, which is a research puzzle that needs solving before the
Angler's Hat will do anything. You'll need to join the stars in the research screen until they match the pattern below, as this is the solution.
- 1 to 3
- 2 to 3
- 2 to 4
- 4 to 5
- 4 to 6
- 5 to 8
- 6 to 7
The research screen is opened by holding Left Shift while your cursor is over the Relic in your inventory. It has to be in your own inventory for this to work, as it can't be researched from inside of a Chest.
If you'd rather not solve it yourself, a hint can be bought for 50 experience points, which adds one of the correct links. Paying for every link would cost 350 experience points, as there are 7 of them in the pattern.
Experience Sources
The
Angler's Hat only gains Relic experience when Generous Catch gives you at least one extra catch, and it's a random amount up to the number of extras. A catch with no extras won't give it anything, which means it levels slowly at first while the chance is low.
A quarter of the experience that a Relic earns will also be given to one other Relic that you're carrying, as long as it isn't at its maximum level. Once a Relic has been maxed out, all of the experience it earns gets passed on instead.
A quarter of the experience that a Relic earns will also be given to one other Relic that you're carrying, as long as it isn't at its maximum level. A Relic that's been maxed out won't earn any more experience, which means it has nothing to pass on.
In the beta the
Angler's Hat gains 1 experience for every item that you catch, which counts your normal catch as well as the extras. It'll also gain one for each fish that you eat and one for every treasure that rank 5 gives you.
Leveling
The first Relic level costs 100 Relic experience, and each one after that will cost 100 more than the last. You'll need 5,500 in total to reach level 10, which is where the Hat stops and Generous Catch is maxed.
| Relic Level | Unlocks | Relic Experience | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | — | 100 | 100 |
| 2 | — | 200 | 300 |

A new Hat can reach Relic level 10 in the beta, which takes 5,500 Relic experience in total, with each level costing 100 more than the last. Once it's there you're able to rank it up, which raises the cap and unlocks the next effect on its card.

Config
Before a single Relic can be changed, you'll need to open the Relics config file and set enabledExtendedConfigs to true. After a restart, a separate file will be created for every Relic, which holds its stat ranges, leveling costs and the chance for each type of Chest.

Related Relics
The
Lucky Scarf is the mining version of the Angler's Hat, as it rolls again after every success in the same way, and it's worn in the Necklace slot. That means the two of them can be worn together for a trip where you're after both fish and ores.
Nothing else adds to what you fish up, so the Hat is a choice for your Head slot rather than part of a combo. It competes there with the
Superstitious Hat, which does the same job for mob drops, along with the
Cowboy Hat and
Villager Hat.
The
Experience Disperser pairs well with the Angler's Hat in the beta, as it passes a share of the experience that the Hat earns on to every other Relic you're wearing. Each item that you catch counts, so a long fishing session will level up the rest of your Relics as well.
It competes for the Head slot with the
Superstitious Hat, which does the same job for mob drops, and with the
Cowboy Hat,
Villager Hat and
Piglin Mask. The
Lucky Scarf goes on your neck instead, which means it can be worn alongside the Hat for your ores.
FAQ
On 1.20.1 and 1.21.1 it's in Shipwreck, Ocean Ruin, Buried Treasure and Village Chests, and on 1.21.1 any Chest near water counts. The beta only puts it in Chests near water, and on every version a Campsite Chest can hold it or a Mimic can drop it.
Its extra catches are rolled without your hook, which means they're always fish or junk, so treasure like Enchanted Books only comes from your normal catch. In the beta, rank 5 is able to turn fish into valuable items like Echo Shards or a Heart of the Sea though.
It still helps with fishing, but Reliquified Artifacts swaps the Artifacts version for Generous Catch, which adds whole extra catches instead. Its chance depends on its roll and its level now, which means it'll get better as you use it.
It only has a constellation on 1.21.1, for Generous Catch, and the Hat won't add any catches until it's solved. Hold Left Shift over it in your inventory to open the research screen, then join the stars to match the pattern in the Constellations section.
