Sun’s Blessing is a status effect granted by Umvuthi, the Sunbird, that unlocks four solar combat abilities for as long as the effect lasts. With it active you can call lightning strikes from the sky, push enemies away with a burst of solar energy, fire a sustained solar beam, or detonate a massive supernova that costs the entire remaining duration.
All four abilities require an empty main hand. The effect starts with no countdown, so there is no pressure to use it immediately after receiving it. The first ability you trigger converts the unlimited blessing into a 60-minute timer, and the clock runs continuously from that point until the effect expires.
Managing how you spend that time separates players who get full value from the blessing from those who burn through it in a single fight.
Obtaining Sun’s Blessing
To receive the blessing, interact with Umvuthi, the Sunbird, who guards the Umvuthana Grove in Savanna biomes. You must be wearing an Umvuthana Mask to open the trade window. Without it, Umvuthi will not interact with you and will treat you as a hostile target.
Opening the trade window gives you a slot to place 7 Gold Blocks. Confirm the trade and Umvuthi grants the Sun’s Blessing effect, playing a bless animation. The full mechanics of the interaction are covered in the Umvuthi, the Sunbird article.

After your first trade, that Umvuthi renews the blessing for free on subsequent visits. No items are needed the second time. You can also right-click the Receive Sun’s Blessing item directly to apply the effect, which works the same way and resets the timer to infinite regardless of how much duration was left.
Abilities
Sun’s Blessing unlocks four heliomancy abilities, each triggered with a specific input while the main hand is empty. Sunstrike and Solar Flare are free to use at any time and form the core of heliomancy combat. Solar Beam and Supernova consume portions of the duration and are best saved for the right moment.
Sunstrike
Sunstrike calls a bolt of solar energy down from the sky onto a ground-level surface within 15 blocks. Right-click any upward-facing block surface with an empty hand to place the strike. Entities within 3 blocks of the impact take 2 mob damage and 2 fire damage, and are set on fire for 3 seconds.

Sunstrike costs nothing from the duration and can be used freely in every fight. The ability requires line-of-sight to an upward-facing block surface. It fails in enclosed spaces, caves, and heavily canopied areas where no valid surface is visible within range. When Sunstrike is unavailable, Solar Flare is the natural fallback since it works regardless of surroundings.
Solar Flare
Solar Flare releases a burst of solar energy around you, hitting all enemies within 3.2 blocks. Sneak and left-click with an empty hand to trigger it. The flare deals 2 damage and applies strong knockback, throwing nearby enemies outward. Like Sunstrike, Solar Flare costs nothing from the duration.

The knockback is forceful enough to create a gap between you and surrounding enemies. Use Solar Flare when cornered or overwhelmed to push mobs back and give yourself room to reposition before re-engaging.
Solar Beam
Solar Beam channels a continuous beam of solar energy up to 20 blocks in the direction you are looking. Sneak and right-click with an empty hand to start channeling. The beam deals mixed fire and physical damage to every entity it passes through each tick while active, making it the highest sustained damage output of the four abilities.

Each use costs 5 minutes from the blessing duration, so using it 12 times exhausts the full 60 minutes. Solar Beam passes through multiple enemies along its path, making it useful against grouped mobs in a line. Tracking a moving target for the full channel duration maximizes the damage.
Avoid using it repeatedly unless you are near an Umvuthi who can renew the blessing afterward. If the blessing has fewer than 5 minutes remaining, starting Solar Beam will exhaust it. Check your remaining duration before committing to a channel.
Supernova
Trigger Supernova by sneaking and then simultaneously left-clicking and right-clicking with an empty hand. For roughly 1.5 seconds before the blast, every entity within 16 blocks is pulled toward your position, gathering scattered mobs into the detonation zone.

The explosion then expands outward in a roughly 5-block radius, dealing around 6 fire and physical damage to each caught entity, setting them on fire for 5 seconds, and blasting them away from center.
Supernova consumes the entire remaining Sun’s Blessing duration. Once the detonation fires, the effect is gone. Triggering it early in the blessing’s timer wastes most of the duration.
The pull phase is what gives Supernova its power. A mob 14 blocks away is pulled much closer by the time detonation fires, landing it inside the full blast radius. Against a single target the ability is inefficient, so save it for large groups or as a final decisive strike when the blessing is nearly spent.
Managing the Duration
Sun’s Blessing applies at infinite duration when first granted. The 60-minute countdown only starts when you activate any ability for the first time. After that, the clock runs continuously and does not pause between fights or in safe areas.
Sunstrike
Solar Flare
Solar Beam
Supernova
Solar Beam is the only gradual drain: 5 minutes per use, up to 12 uses from a full 60-minute blessing. Supernova skips the gradual cost entirely and ends the effect immediately on detonation. Sunstrike and Solar Flare never touch the timer regardless of how often you use them.
When the blessing expires, all four abilities stop working. Return to the Umvuthi you originally traded with to renew it for free. The renewal resets the effect to infinite duration, ready to start a fresh 60-minute timer on your next ability use.
Tips
Treat Sunstrike and Solar Flare as your standard combat tools in every fight. They deal solid damage and have no duration cost, so there is no reason to hold back. Solar Beam and Supernova are limited resources best reserved for tough encounters, boss fights, or large groups of mobs.
Sunstrike requires an upward-facing block surface within 15 blocks and will fail in caves, enclosed buildings, and dense forest. Identify these environments before entering so you can switch your approach. Solar Flare works in any space and should be your default close-range option whenever Sunstrike is blocked.
The Supernova pull radius is 16 blocks but the damage radius is roughly 5 blocks. Give the pull phase time to draw enemies in before the blast fires. Mobs at the outer edge of the pull range that are not yet close to center when the explosion triggers may take reduced or no damage.
If you plan to use Solar Beam repeatedly, renew the blessing from the Umvuthi you traded with between major encounters. The renewal is free after the first trade, so there is no cost to resetting the timer as often as you need. Keeping the duration topped up lets you use Solar Beam aggressively without worrying about running dry.
Once the 60-minute clock is ticking it does not stop, so many players hold off until they are actively engaged with a target worth spending duration on. Arriving at a dungeon or structure with the timer still at infinite means you can open the fight at full power without any preparation pressure.
FAQ
The default trade requires 7 Gold Blocks, placed in the trade slot of Umvuthi’s trade window. You must also be wearing an Umvuthana Mask to open the trade window. Server administrators can change the required item and quantity in the mod config. After completing the trade once, you can return to that same Umvuthi to renew the blessing without offering any items.
Yes. Once any ability triggers the countdown, it runs continuously regardless of what you are doing. It does not pause in menus, safe areas, or while idle. The timer only stays infinite before your first ability use in a given session, so delay using abilities until you are ready to commit.
Yes. Solar Beam costs 5 minutes per use, and the default blessing lasts 60 minutes, giving you up to 12 uses before the duration runs out. If you use Solar Beam alongside other abilities, those free abilities do not affect the timer, so only track how many Solar Beam uses you have spent.
Standard Minecraft behavior clears all status effects on death, including Sun’s Blessing. You will need to renew it from Umvuthi after respawning. The initial trade only needs to be completed once with that Umvuthi, and every return visit after that is free.
Solar Flare, Solar Beam, and Supernova all work underground without restriction. Sunstrike is the exception because it requires line-of-sight to an upward-facing block surface within 15 blocks. In enclosed caves and indoor areas, use the other three abilities instead.
Yes, and it is one of the best uses for it. If a fight has several remaining enemies and the blessing is nearly expired anyway, triggering Supernova burns the last of the duration while dealing maximum damage. You can then renew the blessing from Umvuthi for free before the next encounter.
