Sol Visage

Mowzie’s Mobs Wiki Updated 6 min read

The Sol Visage is the golden ceremonial helmet dropped by Umvuthi, the Sunbird. Its real power is command: wearing it lets you summon Umvuthana warriors as personal followers by right-clicking with their masks.

Each mask type calls a different kind of ally, all of whom fight alongside you and target whatever you attack. You can field up to 10 followers at once, building a warband from the masks you have collected.

As armor, the Sol Visage matches a Gold Helmet, providing 2 points of protection with no toughness. It never breaks by default, making it a permanent fixture once you have it. Wearing it also marks you as kin to the Umvuthana, keeping every wild grove member passive as long as it sits in your helmet slot.

Obtaining

The Sol Visage drops from Umvuthi, the Sunbird, every time a player kills it. It only drops when you land the killing blow and will not drop on non-player kills. Umvuthi also drops 0 to 4 Feathers on every death, with each level of Looting adding up to 2 more.

Umvuthi, the Sunbird

Umvuthi is one of the more demanding boss fights in the mod. It calls down Sun Strikes and fires Solar Beams that rapidly drain your health if caught by them. As it loses health, it summons Umvuthana Cranes that heal it and make it completely invulnerable while healing.

Focus the Cranes immediately each time they appear rather than continuing to attack Umvuthi. Despite its sun theme, fighting Umvuthi at night does not meaningfully reduce its power.

Usage

Summoning Followers

With the Sol Visage on your head, hold any Umvuthana Mask in your hand and right-click. An Umvuthana follower spawns nearby and immediately begins following you. Each summon costs the mask 1 durability point. The follower’s starting health matches the mask’s remaining condition, so a heavily worn mask creates a weaker follower from the start.

Must Be Equipped

The Sol Visage must be worn in your helmet slot to summon followers. Holding it in your hand does nothing. Make sure it is equipped before attempting to right-click with a mask.

You can have up to 10 followers active simultaneously from any mix of masks, and all combat followers automatically target whatever you attack. Every follower except the Crane type turns on your current target the moment you swing. Right-click a follower to recall it; the mask keeps its current durability and can be used to summon again later.

A summoned Umvuthana

Followers deactivate on their own if you die or if you are in Creative mode. If a mask runs out of durability entirely, it breaks and you can no longer use it to summon. Managing mask condition across multiple fights is the main resource constraint of the Sol Visage system.

Follower Types

Each Umvuthana Mask summons a different follower who carries that mask’s effect while active. Followers wear their mask as head armor, giving them the same potion effects the mask would grant a player.

Combat Followers

Mask of Fury spawns the largest warrior, one that always carries a fixed weapon, can block incoming attacks, and benefits from Strength. These are your most reliable front-liners.

Mask of Fear gives Swiftness to chase fast enemies; Mask of Rage gives Haste for a faster attack rate. Mask of Bliss gives Jump Boost for traversal, and Mask of Misery gives Resistance, making it the tankiest combat follower.

Crane Healer (Mask of Faith)

The Mask of Faith summons an Umvuthana Crane, a healer who never attacks enemies. The Crane monitors your health and moves to heal you when it drops. While healing, it applies the Sunblock effect to you.

The Crane also benefits from Health Boost, giving it more maximum health than other follower types. It targets your own wellbeing rather than your enemies, making it a passive but powerful support unit.

For more detail on what each mask does when worn as armor by the player, see the Umvuthana Masks article.

Disguise in the Grove

Wearing the Sol Visage, or any Umvuthana Mask, prevents wild Umvuthana from targeting you. You can walk through the Umvuthana Grove without triggering combat as long as the Sol Visage stays in your helmet slot.

This is particularly useful when you first arrive before defeating Umvuthi, or when revisiting the area afterward. The truce breaks the moment you attack a wild Umvuthana, strike a mask displayed in an item frame, or deal damage to Umvuthi.

The Grove is safe with the Sol Visage Equipped

Once broken, nearby Umvuthana will treat you as hostile for the rest of that encounter. The Sol Visage also keeps Piglins neutral, functioning the same way as any Gold armor piece in Nether encounters. The mask truce also enables a notable trade.

While wearing any mask near a living Umvuthi, you can trade seven Gold Blocks for the Sun’s Blessing, a temporary buff granting you Umvuthi’s own sun abilities: Sun Strikes, Solar Flares, Solar Beams, and a Supernova. The blessing lasts one hour but depletes with each major ability use. You can claim it before or after fighting Umvuthi, and it can be replenished on return visits for free.

Tips

Bring the Faith mask Crane into tough fights. It heals you independently of what your combat followers are doing, removing the need to retreat for food. Pairing one Crane with several combat followers lets you sustain prolonged engagements without breaking off.

Recall followers before you travel or teleport. If you die with followers active, the masks keep only the durability they had at the time of your death. Recalling at full health rather than letting a follower die preserves more summons per mask.

The Sol Visage shares Gold’s enchantability of 25, the highest of any helmet material. Enchanting it with Protection or other defensive enchantments is significantly easier and cheaper than enchanting diamond or Netherite pieces. This partially offsets the low base armor value.

Use the Mask of Misery followers as your frontline shields. Resistance reduces the damage they take, keeping them alive longer than other combat types and preserving the mask durability you used to summon them. Mask of Fury followers deal more damage but take normal damage, so mixing types lets you control which masks deplete fastest.

Farm gold before heading to the grove. Seven Gold Blocks traded with Umvuthi while wearing any mask unlocks the Sun’s Blessing, giving you access to the same sun attacks Umvuthi uses. A full warband combined with an active blessing is overwhelming in difficult fights. The Nether is the most reliable source of gold ore before your first trip.

FAQ

Can I summon multiple followers from the same mask?
›

Yes. Each right-click costs 1 durability from the mask in your hand and spawns one follower. As long as the mask has durability remaining and you are under the 10-follower limit, you can keep summoning from the same mask. Each successive follower spawns with slightly less health as the mask wears down.

What happens to my followers when I die?
›

All followers deactivate when you die. The masks remain in your inventory, holding whatever durability they had before the followers were created.

Does the Sol Visage grant any status effects to the player?
›

No. The Sol Visage provides armor only. Potion effects like Strength and Swiftness are tied to the individual Umvuthana Masks, not the Sol Visage. To get both the summon ability and a persistent effect, you need to swap helmets between uses.

Can the Sol Visage be repaired?
›

By default, the Sol Visage never breaks and has no durability to lose, so repair is not needed. Server operators can configure it to be breakable, in which case it cannot be repaired through standard anvil methods. Check your server’s config if you are unsure which setting is active.

Does wearing the Sol Visage affect Piglins?
›

Yes. The Sol Visage counts as Gold armor for Piglin neutrality. Piglins will not attack you while you wear it, just like a standard Gold Helmet. This can save you from Piglin aggression in Nether encounters.
