The Axe of a Thousand Metals is a legendary weapon that never breaks and comes with two special attacks no standard axe can replicate. Right-clicking sweeps a massive arc through every enemy around you, while crouching and right-clicking slams the ground and sends a shockwave tearing forward up to 9 blocks.
You can only get it by defeating the Ferrous Wroughtnaut, but every kill guarantees a drop. Both special attacks hit multiple targets at once, making this axe exceptionally good against groups. At 9 base damage with no durability to manage, it is one of the strongest permanent weapons available from the mod.
Obtaining
The Axe of a Thousand Metals drops from the Ferrous Wroughtnaut every time a player lands the killing blow. It always appears alongside the Wrought Helm as a guaranteed two-item reward. There is no crafting recipe for this weapon, so the Ferrous Wroughtnaut is the only source.

The Wroughtnaut deals 30 base attack damage per hit and spawns in underground chambers roughly between Y 20 and 50. It can only be damaged during its overhead slam and only from behind. Attacks to its front arc are blocked entirely, so stay behind it while the axe is lodged in the ground. A shield provides emergency protection, though the Wroughtnaut destroys it on contact so each one only saves you once.
Usage
A standard left-click attack deals 9 damage, but the axe swings slowly at 0.9 attacks per second. Its real strength is the two special attacks triggered by right-clicking. Both require your attack cooldown bar to be fully charged before the right-click will register, and a 30-tick (roughly 1.5-second) cooldown prevents back-to-back special attacks.
Wide Swing
Ground Slam
Wide Swing

Right-clicking with a fully charged attack triggers a Wide Swing. The axe slashes in a 160-degree arc, hitting every enemy within 4 blocks for 7 damage and knocking them back hard. The arc is wide enough to catch enemies approaching from the sides as well as directly in front of you.
Ground Slam
Hold Shift and right-click while standing on solid ground to perform the Ground Slam. The axe crashes down and hits everything in a narrow 40-degree cone up to 4.5 blocks ahead for 9 damage. Immediately after impact, a shockwave erupts in the same forward direction up to 9 blocks away, dealing 3 to 6 damage with closer enemies taking more.

As the shockwave travels, it launches loose surface blocks into the air along its path. Lining up in front of your target lets both the direct hit and shockwave connect, dealing up to 15 combined damage. You cannot trigger the Slam while airborne, since you must be on the ground while sneaking.
Tips
The Wide Swing is your crowd-clearing tool. The 160-degree arc is wide enough to hit almost everything around you, so use it whenever enemies are spreading out or swarming from multiple sides. The strong knockback also creates breathing room in chaotic fights.
For tough single targets, line up directly in front of them and use the Ground Slam. The 9-damage direct hit and 3 to 6 extra shockwave damage stack on close enemies, making it your highest burst option. The backward knockback also creates separation if a mob gets too close.
Both special attacks require a full attack charge before right-clicking works. If the axe is not responding, wait for the attack meter to reach full before trying again. This is the same meter used for normal hits, so the habit applies across all weapons.
Enchanting is worth the effort since the axe never breaks and you only enchant it once. Sharpness V boosts damage on both special attacks, and Looting III is excellent for mob farming. Unbreaking and Mending do nothing since the axe has no durability.
FAQ
No. The axe never breaks by default and has no durability bar. Server administrators can enable durability via the mod configuration file, but this is disabled in all standard installations.
Wait until your attack cooldown bar is completely full, then right-click for the Wide Swing. For the Ground Slam, hold Shift and right-click while you are standing on solid ground. If neither works, your attack meter is not full yet.
No. The only way to obtain the axe is by killing the Ferrous Wroughtnaut. Every player kill guarantees a drop, so you can farm it by fighting the boss again if you lose the axe.
Yes. Sharpness boosts damage on both the Wide Swing and the Ground Slam direct hit. The shockwave after the slam uses a separate damage system and does not benefit from Sharpness, but the slam hit itself does.
No. The Slam requires you to be sneaking and on the ground. Right-clicking while airborne, even while holding Shift, triggers the Wide Swing instead.
