Mystical Agriculture is a Minecraft mod that lets you grow resources as crops, so instead of mining for Iron, Diamonds or Netherite, you plant seeds for them and harvest the essence. It starts off with two new ores, Inferium and Prosperity, and builds up through five tiers of essence until you can grow almost anything in the game.

It’s a mod you’ll find in a lot of modpacks, as it adds seeds for other mods’ materials as well, so a pack with Mekanism or Thermal will usually have Osmium or Signalum seeds too. This guide covers getting started, making your first resource seeds at the Infusion Altar, Growth Accelerators, the Harvester, and the gear and augments you can make later on.
Getting Started with Inferium and Prosperity
Everything in Mystical Agriculture starts with two ores, Inferium and Prosperity, and you’ll find both of them while you’re out mining for Iron. Inferium is used for pretty much everything to do with farming, while Prosperity Shards are what you’ll need for seed bases, ingots and a lot of the crafting recipes.
Mine Inferium and Prosperity Ore
Both generate in normal stone and deepslate
Inferium Ore generates from y -32 up to y 64, so it’s quite common around the same height as Iron. Mining it drops two to four
Inferium Essence, and Fortune works on it just like it does on Diamond Ore, so a Fortune pickaxe will get you a lot more essence from every vein you find.
Prosperity Ore sits a bit deeper, from y -60 up to y 24, and it drops one to four
Prosperity Shards. Both ores also have deepslate versions lower down. You’ll want a good stack of Prosperity Shards before long, so it’s worth mining every Prosperity vein you come across, even when you don’t have anything to use them on yet.
Mobs are the other way to get Inferium Essence early on. Almost every mob has a 20% chance to drop one when it dies, and it doesn’t matter how it dies, so a mob farm you’ve already built will slowly fill up with Inferium Essence on its own without you doing anything different.
Craft Inferium Seeds
Eight essence around Wheat Seeds
Inferium Seeds are made on a normal Crafting Table, with eight Inferium Essence around a single
Wheat Seeds. They’re the only seeds in the mod that you can craft this way, as every resource seed after this one is made at the Infusion Altar instead.
Plant the Inferium Seeds on Farmland just like Wheat, and when they’re fully grown they drop Inferium Essence and the seed back. It’s slow going at first, but every seed you plant is more essence coming in, and the second seed you sometimes get back lets you spread the crop out over time.
Turn your Farmland into Essence Farmland
Right-click Farmland with essence
Right-click a block of Farmland with Inferium Essence and it turns into
Inferium Farmland, which gives every crop planted on it a 10% chance to drop a second essence and a second seed. You can do the same thing with the higher tier essences later on, and each tier has its own Farmland.

Inferium Seeds get even more out of this, as they drop more essence the higher the Farmland they’re planted on. On Inferium Farmland you’ll get one essence per harvest, but on
Supremium Farmland you get three, so once you’ve got a few Supremium Essence spare, it’s worth moving your Inferium crops onto better Farmland.
| Farmland | Extra Essence and Seed Chance | Inferium Essence per Harvest |
|---|---|---|
| Normal Farmland | None | 1 |
| Inferium Farmland | 10%, 20% for tier 1 crops | 1 |
| Prudentium Farmland | 10%, 20% for tier 2 crops | 1 or 2 |
| Tertium Farmland | 10%, 20% for tier 3 crops | 2 |
| Imperium Farmland | 10%, 20% for tier 4 crops | 2 or 3 |
| Supremium Farmland | 10%, 20% for tier 5 crops | 3 |
The extra 10% only applies when the Farmland matches the crop’s tier, so Iron Seeds, which are tier 3, want Tertium Farmland to get the full 20%. Any essence Farmland still gives the base 10% though, so even Inferium Farmland under a Diamond crop is better than plain Farmland.
Essence Tiers and the Infusion Crystal
Mystical Agriculture has five tiers of essence, and each one is made from four of the tier below it. Inferium is the first, then Prudentium, Tertium, Imperium, and finally Supremium at the top. Every resource crop belongs to one of these tiers, and the tier decides which essence you’ll need to make its seeds.
To combine them you’ll need an
Infusion Crystal, which is made from four
Prosperity Shards, four
Inferium Essence and a
Diamond. The crystal stays in the Crafting Table when you use it, it just loses durability, and the basic one lasts for 1,000 crafts before it breaks.
With the crystal in the middle of the Crafting Table, put four essence around it in a plus shape and you’ll get one essence of the next tier up. Four Inferium make one
Prudentium Essence, four Prudentium make one
Tertium Essence, and so on until you reach
Supremium Essence.
That adds up quickly, as a single Supremium Essence works out to 256 Inferium Essence. This is why it’s worth getting your Inferium crops growing on good Farmland as soon as possible, because almost everything at the top end of the mod is paid for in Inferium Essence in the end.
| Tier | Essence | Made From | Example Crops |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Inferium | Inferium Ore, mobs, Inferium crops | Stone, Dirt, Wood, Ice, Deepslate |
| 2 | Prudentium | 4 Inferium Essence | Nature, Dye, Nether, Coal, Coral, Honey, Amethyst, Pig, Chicken, Cow, Sheep, Slime |
| 3 | Tertium | 4 Prudentium Essence | Iron, Copper, Nether Quartz, Glowstone, Redstone, Obsidian, Zombie, Skeleton, Creeper, Spider |
| 4 | Imperium | 4 Tertium Essence | Gold, Lapis Lazuli, End, Experience, Blaze, Ghast, Enderman |
| 5 | Supremium | 4 Imperium Essence | Diamond, Emerald, Netherite, Wither Skeleton |
The
Master Infusion Crystal is the upgraded version, and it never breaks, so it’s one of the first things worth making once you’ve got some Supremium Essence. It takes four Supremium Essence, four Prosperity Shards and a Supremium Gemstone, and after that you won’t need to make another crystal again.
Until then, keep a spare basic Infusion Crystal made up so you’re not caught out halfway through a batch of essence. A thousand crafts goes further than you’d think early on, but once you’re turning stacks of Inferium into Supremium, you’ll go through a few of them.
How to Make Resource Seeds at the Infusion Altar
Every resource seed in Mystical Agriculture is made at the Infusion Altar, which is a small multiblock of one altar surrounded by eight pedestals. The seed base goes on the altar in the middle, and the essence and the material you want to grow go on the pedestals around it.
Build the Infusion Altar and eight pedestals
Gold, Red Wool and Stone
The
Infusion Altar is made from two
Gold Ingots, a
Red Wool and four
Stone, and each
Infusion Pedestal takes two Gold Ingots, a Red Wool and two Stone. You’ll need eight pedestals in total, so that’s quite a lot of Gold before you can make anything, but you only have to build it once.
Place the pedestals on the same level as the altar. Four of them go three blocks out from the altar in each direction, with a two block gap between them and the altar, and the other four go on the diagonals, two blocks out and two blocks across. If a pedestal is one block off, the altar won’t see it, so it’s worth counting carefully.
Make a Prosperity Seed Base
The center of every resource seed recipe
The
Prosperity Seed Base is made from four
Prosperity Shards around a
Wheat Seeds, and you’ll need one for every resource seed you make. Mob seeds use the
Soulium Seed Base instead, which is covered further down, but everything else starts with a Prosperity Seed Base.
Make a few Prosperity Seed Bases at once while you’ve got the Shards out, as they stack and you’ll get through them quickly. Each one is only four Shards, so a single good Prosperity vein will usually cover the seed bases for your first handful of crops.
Load the altar and activate it
Right-click with a Wand or use redstone
Put the Prosperity Seed Base on the altar by right-clicking it, then put four of the material and four of the right tier essence on the pedestals, one item on each. For
Iron Seeds, that’s four
Iron Ingots and four
Tertium Essence, as Iron is a tier 3 crop.
To start the craft, right-click the altar with a
Wand, or give it a redstone signal with a Lever or a Button. It takes about five seconds, and when it’s done the items on the pedestals are used up and the seeds appear on the altar. Right-click the altar again to take them off.
The Wand is cheap to make, it’s just an Inferium Essence on top of a Stick on top of a Stone. A lot of players end up putting a Button on the side of the altar instead, since it does the same job and you don’t have to go looking for the Wand every time.
Turning Essence Back Into Resources
Resource crops drop essence rather than the item itself, so you’ll need to craft the essence back into the resource. Eight
Iron Essence in a ring makes six Iron Ingots, which is a good return, while the rarer resources cost a lot more, as it takes nine
Diamond Essence for a single Diamond.
| Seeds | Tier | Pedestal Items | Essence to Resource |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coal Seeds | 2 | 4 Coal, 4 Prudentium Essence | 8 Coal Essence = 12 Coal |
| Iron Seeds | 3 | 4 Iron Ingots, 4 Tertium Essence | 8 Iron Essence = 6 Iron Ingots |
| Redstone Seeds | 3 | 4 Redstone Dust, 4 Tertium Essence | 8 Redstone Essence = 12 Redstone Dust |
| Gold Seeds | 4 | 4 Gold Ingots, 4 Imperium Essence | 8 Gold Essence = 4 Gold Ingots |
| Diamond Seeds | 5 | 4 Diamonds, 4 Supremium Essence | 9 Diamond Essence = 1 Diamond |
| Netherite Seeds | 5 | 4 Netherite Ingots, 4 Supremium Essence | 8 Netherite Essence = 1 Netherite Ingot |
Diamond and Netherite Seeds are expensive to make, as they cost four of the resource itself and four Supremium Essence. They pay for themselves eventually, but you’ll get a lot more out of your early essence by growing Iron and Coal first, then working up to the tier 5 crops once your Inferium farm is up and running.
Mob Seeds and Soul Jars
Mob seeds grow essence that crafts into mob drops, like Rotten Flesh from Zombie Seeds or Ender Pearls from Enderman Seeds. Instead of the mob drop itself, the recipe uses Soul Jars that you fill by killing that mob, so you’ll need Soulium before you can make any of them.
Find Soulstone and Soulium Ore in the Nether
Clusters in the Netherrack
Soulstone generates in big clusters in the Nether’s
Netherrack, anywhere from y 0 up to y 128, and around one block in twenty of each cluster is
Soulium Ore. Mining Soulium Ore drops one to three
Soulium Dust, and Fortune helps here too, so bring the same pickaxe you use on Inferium.
While you’re there, grab a stack of the Soulstone as well. Mining it gives you Cobbled Soulstone, and smelting that three times, first back into Soulstone, then into Smooth Soulstone, and then once more, turns it into
Soul Dust. You’ll need Soul Dust for the
Soul Glass in every Soul Jar, and the Soulstone itself goes into the Awakening Altar and the Enchanter later on.
Craft Soulium Ingots, Soul Jars and a Soulium Dagger
The tools for collecting souls
A
Soulium Ingot is a
Prosperity Ingot with two Soulium Dust, and the Prosperity Ingot itself is just an
Iron Ingot with four
Prosperity Shards around it. You’ll want quite a few Soulium Ingots, as they go into the Soul Jars, the dagger and most of the machines.
A
Soul Jar is three Soul Glass and one Soulium Ingot, and you’ll need four of them for every mob seed you make. The
Soulium Dagger is made from a
Golden Sword, a Soulium Ingot and two Soulium Dust, and it’s the weapon that actually collects the souls.
Carry empty Soul Jars in your inventory and kill mobs with the Soulium Dagger in your main hand, and each kill puts one soul into a jar. Each jar only holds one type of mob, and once it’s full it can go on a pedestal. The Soul Siphoner enchantment adds 10% more souls per level, which helps a lot with the bigger jars.
The number of souls each jar needs depends on the mob, and the rarer or harder mobs need fewer. Ghasts only take four kills to fill a jar, while Slimes take twelve, which is a lot less painful than it sounds because Slimes tend to spawn in big groups anyway.
| Mob | Souls per Jar | Seed Tier |
|---|---|---|
| Pig, Chicken, Cow, Sheep | 8 | 2 |
| Squid, Fish, Turtle, Rabbit | 6 | 2 or 3 |
| Slime | 12 | 2 |
| Zombie, Skeleton, Creeper, Spider | 10 | 3 |
| Blaze | 10 | 4 |
| Enderman | 8 | 4 |
| Ghast | 4 | 4 |
| Wither Skeleton | 8 | 5 |
The dagger can be upgraded at the Infusion Altar into a passive or a hostile version, which collect one and a half souls from the matching type of mob instead of one. If you’re filling a lot of jars, that cuts the number of kills you need down by a third, so the upgrade pays for itself pretty quickly.
Infuse the mob seeds
Soulium Seed Base on the altar
The
Soulium Seed Base is a Prosperity Seed Base with two Soulium Dust, and it goes on the altar in place of the normal seed base. For
Zombie Seeds, put four full Zombie Soul Jars and four Tertium Essence on the pedestals, then activate the altar the same way as before. The jars get used up, so you’ll need four new ones for the next batch.
The Zombie Seeds you get are tier 3, so they want Tertium Farmland, and the Zombie Essence they drop crafts into Rotten Flesh. Other mob seeds work the same way, so Enderman Seeds give you Ender Pearls and Blaze Seeds give you Blaze Rods, without having to build a mob farm for each one.
How Growth Accelerators Work
Growth Accelerators are one of the first blocks you’ll want to make once your farm is going, as they make your crops grow faster and they don’t need any power. You put a Growth Accelerator underneath a crop, and every ten seconds or so it gives that crop an extra growth tick, on top of the normal growing it does anyway.

An
Inferium Growth Accelerator is made from four
Inferium Essence, four Stone and an
Inferium Gemstone in the middle, and you get three of them from the one craft. There’s a Growth Accelerator for each of the essence tiers, but the only difference between them is how far up they can reach, they don’t make the crop grow any faster.
The Growth Accelerator works on the first crop it finds above it, starting two blocks up, so it goes straight underneath the Farmland. You can also stack more Growth Accelerators underneath that one in a column, and every one in the column will speed up the same crop, as long as the crop is still within its range.
| Growth Accelerator | Range |
|---|---|
| Inferium | 12 blocks |
| Prudentium | 24 blocks |
| Tertium | 36 blocks |
| Imperium | 48 blocks |
| Supremium | 60 blocks |
Each Growth Accelerator only speeds up the one crop though, so if you want a whole field sped up you’ll need a column under every crop. For most farms, Inferium Growth Accelerators are plenty, and you’d only really need the higher tiers if you’re making a very tall stack, where the bottom ones need more range to reach the crop.
Bone Meal, Fertilized Essence and Mystical Fertilizer
Bone Meal doesn’t work on resource crops, which catches a lot of players out when they first start. Instead, Mystical Agriculture has
Fertilized Essence, which has a 10% chance to drop whenever you harvest a fully grown resource crop, and it works on them just like Bone Meal does on Wheat.
Mystical Fertilizer is the stronger version, made from four Inferium Essence, four Bone Meal and a Diamond, and it gives you four at a time. One Mystical Fertilizer grows a crop straight to fully grown in one go, and it also works on saplings, so it’s handy for your Inferium crops when you want essence quickly.
Mystical Fertilizer is too expensive to use on every crop, but it’s great for getting a brand new seed type going. Grow the first crop straight away, plant the seeds you get back, and you’ll have a row of them growing much sooner than if you’d waited on the first one.
Automating Your Farm with the Harvester
The
Harvester is Mystical Agriculture’s own machine for automating a farm. It breaks any crops in front of it that are fully grown and replants them, then keeps the drops inside until you pull them out with a
Hopper or a pipe. It isn’t only for resource crops either, the Harvester works on Wheat and other vanilla crops too.

You’ll need a
Machine Frame first, which is four Iron Ingots, four
Redstone Dust and a Stone. It’s the base for every machine in the mod, including the Seed Reprocessor, the Soul Extractor and the Soulium Spawner, so it’s worth making a couple while you’re at it.
The Harvester itself is the Machine Frame with four Iron Ingots, two
Soulium Ingots and two Diamond Scythes around it. That makes it something you’ll build once you’ve already got a bit of Soulium going, which is usually around the time your first resource crops are growing.
To run the Harvester you’ll need to give it fuel, and normal furnace fuel like Coal works, or you can use Forge Energy from another mod. Without any upgrades the Harvester covers a 3×3 area in front of it, but it only checks one block every five seconds, so it takes it a little under a minute to get round all nine.
If you give the Harvester a redstone signal it’ll stop running, which is handy if you want to turn it off for a bit without having to break it. It also keeps one seed back from every crop it harvests so it can replant it, which means everything it sends into your storage is extra, and you won’t be going round replanting by hand.
Machine Upgrades
Machine Upgrades go in the Harvester’s upgrade slot and make it cover a bigger area and work a lot faster, although they also make it use more fuel. They’re made from a
Machine Upgrade Base with four ingots and four essence of the matching tier, starting with the
Inferium Machine Upgrade.
The Machine Upgrade Base takes Prosperity Shards, Prosperity Ingots and a Diamond, and you can swap upgrades in and out of the machine whenever you like. Each tier replaces the last rather than stacking with it, so you only ever have one upgrade in the Harvester at a time.
| Upgrade | Harvester Area | Speed |
|---|---|---|
| None | 3×3 | One block every 5 seconds |
| Inferium | 5×5 | About 20% faster |
| Prudentium | 7×7 | About 60% faster |
| Tertium | 9×9 | 2.5 times as fast |
| Imperium | 11×11 | 8 times as fast |
| Supremium | 13×13 | 40 times as fast |
| Awakened Supremium | 15×15 | 200 times as fast |
The same upgrades also work in the Seed Reprocessor, the Soul Extractor and the Soulium Spawner. The
Seed Reprocessor is worth a mention too, as it turns any spare seeds into two essence each, so the extra seeds you get from essence Farmland don’t just sit in a chest doing nothing.
Keep enough seeds back to expand the farm first, though, as a planted seed gives you essence every time it grows, while the Reprocessor only gives you two once. It’s best used on the seed types you’ve already got plenty of planted, like Inferium once your field is full.
Best Mystical Agriculture Farm Setup
The best Mystical Agriculture farm is really just the three things above working together, essence Farmland, Growth Accelerators underneath and a Harvester in front. It doesn’t need to be big to be good either, as a small, well set up farm will out produce a huge field of crops on plain Farmland.
A good way to start is a 5×5 or 7×7 patch in front of a Harvester with an Inferium or Prudentium Machine Upgrade, with water under the middle and a column of Growth Accelerators under every other block. Put a Hopper under the Harvester, or on its side, feeding into a chest, and you’ll have essence building up without doing anything.
Match the Farmland to the crop wherever you can, as Tertium Farmland under Iron Seeds or Supremium Farmland under Diamond Seeds doubles the chance of a second essence and a second seed. Keep a few Inferium crops on the best Farmland you’ve got, too, since they’re what everything else is paid for with.
If you’re playing a big modpack like ATM10, the setup is the same, but the pack will often add Mystical Agradditions for the tier 6 crops and extra seeds from the other mods. The early steps don’t change though, so getting Inferium going on good Farmland is still the first thing to do.
Tools, Armor and Augments
Mystical Agriculture has a full set of tools, weapons and armor for every essence tier, plus the Sickle, Scythe and Watering Can for farming. Each tier is made by upgrading the one below it, starting from Diamond gear, so an
Inferium Sword is a
Diamond Sword with two
Inferium Ingots and two
Inferium Gemstones.
Inferium Ingots and Gemstones are made the same way, a Prosperity Ingot or a Prosperity Gemstone with two Inferium Essence, and the higher tiers swap in the higher essence. The gear itself is decent, but the real reason to make it is the augment slot, which is where these tools become much better than Netherite.
Augments and the Tinkering Table
Augments are added to tools and armor at the
Tinkering Table, which is made from Stone and two Soulium Dust. Every piece of essence gear has one augment slot, and the Awakened Supremium gear has two, so you’ll want to choose carefully which augment goes on which piece.
Each augment has a tier, and it can only go on gear of the same tier or higher. Night Vision works on a Prudentium Helmet, but Flight needs a
Supremium Chestplate, as it’s a tier 5 augment. Most augments start from an
Unattuned Augment, which is six Prosperity Shards and three Iron Ingots, infused at the altar with the right items.
An augment can be taken back off at the Tinkering Table too, so you’re not stuck with it if you change your mind. That makes it easy to move a Night Vision or Speed augment from your old armor onto a better set when you upgrade, instead of making it again from scratch.
| Augment | Tier | Goes On |
|---|---|---|
| Health Boost I to V | 1 to 5 | Any armor |
| Night Vision | 2 | Helmet |
| Speed I to III | 2 to 4 | Leggings |
| Mining AOE I to IV | 2 to 5 | Pickaxe, Axe, Shovel |
| Step Assist | 3 | Leggings or Boots |
| No Fall Damage | 3 | Boots |
| Flight | 5 | Chestplate |
The
Flight Augment is the one most players are working towards, and it’s made at the Infusion Altar with an Unattuned Augment in the middle and four
Nether Stars and four Supremium Essence on the pedestals. The recipe viewer below shows the same items laid out on a grid, but the craft itself happens on the altar.
That makes Flight a late game goal, as you’ll need to beat the Wither four times for the Nether Stars. Essence weapons help here, since the Wither drops a few essence of the weapon’s tier when you kill it with one, so a Supremium Sword pays some of that cost back.
Awakened Supremium
Awakened Supremium is the top tier of the mod, and it’s made at the
Awakening Altar rather than the Infusion Altar. It uses the same ring of eight positions, but four of them are
Awakening Pedestals and the other four are
Essence Vessels, and the altar, pedestals and vessels are all made from Soulstone.

The recipe takes a
Supremium Block on the altar, four
Cognizant Dust on the pedestals, and ten each of Air, Earth, Water and Fire Essence in the vessels. That gives you an
Awakened Supremium Block, which crafts into nine
Awakened Supremium Essence for the ingots, gemstones and gear.
Cognizant Dust only drops from the Wither and the Ender Dragon, and only when you kill them with an essence weapon enchanted with Mystical Enlightenment. The Wither drops four with the first level, the Dragon drops six, and the enchantment itself comes from the Enchanter using Supremium Essence and a lot of Experience Essence.
The four elemental essences come from their own seeds, which are made with Agglomeratio instead of a normal resource.
Air Agglomeratio, for example, is a Glass Bottle, Gravel, Dirt and a Clay Ball, and the Air Seeds only need Inferium Essence, so they’re one of the cheaper parts of the whole recipe.
Frequently Asked Questions
Iron Seeds are made at the Infusion Altar. Put a Prosperity Seed Base on the altar and four Iron Ingots and four Tertium Essence on the eight pedestals, then right-click the altar with a Wand or give it a redstone signal. There isn’t a Crafting Table recipe for them unless the config option for it has been turned on.
A Growth Accelerator goes directly underneath the Farmland and gives the first crop above it an extra growth tick about every ten seconds. You can stack several in a column under the same crop, and each one adds its own ticks, as long as the crop is inside its range, which is 12 blocks for Inferium and 60 for Supremium.
Resource crops are made so that Bone Meal won’t grow them, and that’s on purpose rather than a bug. Use Fertilized Essence instead, which drops from harvesting resource crops, or Mystical Fertilizer, which grows a crop to fully grown straight away. Inferium crops can be grown faster the same way.
Kill the Wither or the Ender Dragon with an essence weapon, like a Supremium Sword, that has the Mystical Enlightenment enchantment on it. The Wither drops four Cognizant Dust and the Dragon drops six at the first level, and a higher level of the enchantment gives you more. You’ll need four for each Awakened Supremium Block.
