Ribbits adds adorable frog-themed villagers called Ribbits that live in swamp villages. These peaceful NPCs have five distinct professions including fishermen who catch fish, gardeners who water crops, sorcerers who grant buffs, merchants who trade swamp goods, and nitwits who play music together in bands.
Players will discover Ribbit Villages naturally generating in Swamp biomes. Unlike traditional villagers who trade
Emeralds, Ribbits use
Amethyst Shards as currency and offer unique swamp-themed decorative blocks and useful items.
The mod features a charming music system where multiple Nitwit Ribbits form bands and play instruments together. Players can join in using a
Maraca purchased from Merchant Ribbits. Ribbits also exhibit cute behaviors like holding umbrellas made of
lily pads or leaves when it rains and staring curiously at vanilla frogs.
Getting Started
Ribbits introduces peaceful frog NPCs that inhabit villages in Swamp biomes. This is early to mid-game content accessible as soon as players can explore and locate a swamp. The mod takes place entirely in the Overworld dimension.
Finding Ribbit Villages
Ribbit Villages generate naturally in all Swamp biomes including modded swamp variants. These villages feature unique mushroom-themed architecture built from
Toadstool blocks, Mossy Oak Planks, and
Swamp Lanterns. Villages contain fishing docks, storage houses, living quarters, and gathering areas where Ribbits perform their daily activities.

Ribbits spawn exclusively within these villages. Each village typically contains multiple Ribbits of different professions identifiable by their appearance and held items. Fisherman Ribbits carry
fishing rods, Gardener and Sorcerer Ribbits wear pointed hats, and Merchant Ribbits have backpacks with leaves sticking out.
What You Need to Know
Trading with Ribbits requires Amethyst Shards instead of Emeralds. Amethyst Shards are obtained by mining
Amethyst Clusters found in Amethyst Geodes underground. Ribbits restock their trades up to twice per day, so players should wait at least 10 minutes real-time between restocks.
Ribbits are completely peaceful and will not attack players or defend themselves. They have 15 health and move slowly on land but swim twice as fast as players in water. Each Ribbit is tied to a home position which can be manually set by right-clicking them with an Amethyst Shard while sneaking.
Bring at least 20 Amethyst Shards when first visiting a Ribbit Village. This allows you to purchase decorative blocks from Merchant Ribbits and acquire a Maraca to participate in their music sessions.
Ribbit Professions Overview
Ribbits come in five distinct professions each with unique appearances and behaviors. Nitwit Ribbits are the most common and play musical instruments. Fisherman Ribbits carry fishing rods and catch fish near water. Gardener Ribbits wear green hats and water nearby crops. Merchant Ribbits have backpacks and trade decorative blocks. Sorcerer Ribbits wear purple hats and grant beneficial effects to nearby players.
All Ribbits share common traits including slow-falling with umbrellas, increased swim speed, and the ability to stare at vanilla Frogs. They are active during the day and perform their profession-specific tasks. At night, most Ribbits become inactive and return to their homes.
Nitwit Ribbits & Music System
Nitwit Ribbits are the default profession and the most commonly encountered variant in villages. These Ribbits have no specific job skills but possess a unique ability to play musical instruments and form bands with other nearby Nitwits.
How the Music System Works
When multiple Nitwit Ribbits are near each other during daytime, they will spontaneously begin playing music together. Each Ribbit pulls out a random instrument from four options: bass, bongo drums, flute, or guitar. The performance lasts between 100 and 150 seconds before the band disperses.

One Ribbit becomes the band leader who coordinates the performance. Other Nitwits within range join the band until all four instrument types are represented or no more Nitwits are available. Players can hear the music and see Ribbits performing their animated instrument-playing behaviors.
Playing Music with Ribbits
Players can participate in Ribbit concerts by using a Maraca purchased from Merchant Ribbits. Right-clicking while holding a Maraca causes the player to shake it and play along. Nearby Nitwit Ribbits may notice and join in, forming a band around the player.

The Maraca has no durability and can be used indefinitely. It produces sound effects as the player holds right-click. Releasing right-click stops the performance. Multiple players can play Maracas simultaneously to create larger musical gatherings.
Pride Variant
Approximately 33% of Nitwit Ribbits spawn holding rainbow pride flags during June or year-round if enabled in the mod configuration. These Pride Ribbits function identically to standard Nitwits and participate in music performances normally. The pride flag is visible when the Ribbit holds it over their head as an umbrella during rain.
Fisherman Ribbits
Fisherman Ribbits are identified by the fishing rods they carry. These Ribbits actively fish in nearby water sources and offer fish-related trades to players using Amethyst Shards.
Fishing Behavior
Fisherman Ribbits automatically search for water within 16 blocks of their position. Upon locating water, they walk to the edge and cast their fishing rod. The Ribbit sits down and wiggles its toes while waiting for a catch. Fishing sessions occur every 30 to 90 seconds.

Unlike vanilla fishing mechanics, Fisherman Ribbits do not actually catch fish items. Their fishing is purely cosmetic behavior. However, their trading inventory offers fish-related items as if they had been actively fishing.
Fisherman Trades
Each Fisherman Ribbit offers 4 random trades selected from a pool of 7 possible options. Trades use Amethyst Shards as currency and restock up to twice per day.
The Enchanted Fishing Rod trade provides fishing rods with random enchantments at levels between 5 and 20. This can result in high-level enchantments like Lure III or Luck of the Sea III. The two trades that buy
Tropical Fish and
Pufferfish from players offer a way to convert excess fish into Amethyst Shards.
Gardener Ribbits
Gardener Ribbits wear green pointed hats and carry small watering cans. These Ribbits assist players with farming by watering tilled soil within a 16-block radius.
Crop Watering Mechanic
Gardener Ribbits automatically detect dry
farmland within 16 blocks and walk toward it. Upon reaching the farmland, the Ribbit performs a watering animation lasting approximately 60 seconds. This applies a
bone meal-like growth boost to crops planted on the tilled soil.
The watering effect instantly hydrates dry farmland and accelerates crop growth. This allows farms to function without nearby water sources. Each Gardener Ribbit has a 60-second cooldown between watering sessions, so multiple Gardeners can maintain larger farms more efficiently.
Farming with Gardeners
Gardener Ribbits are most effective when positioned centrally in crop fields. Their 16-block range covers a substantial area, but larger farms benefit from multiple Gardeners. Players can manually set a Gardener's home position near their farm by right-clicking the Ribbit with an Amethyst Shard while sneaking.
Gardeners only activate during daytime. At night, they return to their homes and become inactive. This means farms using Gardener Ribbits should account for the day-night cycle when planning crop growth rates.
Place Gardener Ribbits every 30 blocks in large farms to ensure complete coverage. Their 16-block range overlaps slightly, providing consistent watering across the entire field.
Merchant Ribbits
Merchant Ribbits carry backpacks with leaves poking out and wander around villages. These Ribbits offer the largest selection of trades focused on decorative swamp-themed blocks and the Maraca instrument.
Merchant Trading
Each Merchant Ribbit offers 10 random trades selected from a pool of 6 possible items. This is more than double the 4 trades offered by other professions. The expanded inventory makes Merchants the primary source for collecting decorative blocks.
The Maraca is exclusive to Merchant Ribbits and costs between 6 and 8 Amethyst Shards. This is the most expensive single trade but provides the only player-usable instrument for participating in Ribbit music sessions. Decorative blocks are affordable with most costing only 1 to 3 Amethyst Shards for bulk quantities.
Sorcerer Ribbits
Sorcerer Ribbits wear purple pointed hats and emit magical particle effects. These Ribbits grant beneficial status effects to nearby players, making them valuable companions for adventuring or base activities.
Buff Mechanics
Sorcerer Ribbits automatically apply buffs to all players within a 32-block radius. The effects provided include Haste for faster mining and attack speed, Health Boost for increased maximum health, and Resistance when hostile mobs are nearby. Buffs are applied passively without requiring player interaction.

Each Sorcerer has a 600-second (10-minute) cooldown between buff applications. The cooldown is per individual Sorcerer, so having multiple Sorcerers near each other provides more frequent buff uptime. When casting buffs, Sorcerers perform an animation and spawn purple spell particles in a circle around themselves.
Combat Applications
The Resistance effect only activates when hostile mobs spawn near the Sorcerer. This makes Sorcerers particularly useful for defending bases during nighttime or near mob
spawners. The resistance significantly reduces damage taken from mob attacks, allowing players to engage in combat more safely.
Sorcerers do not fight and have no defense against hostile mobs. Players should protect Sorcerers by building fences or walls around them to prevent mobs from killing these valuable NPCs. Sorcerers continue providing buffs as long as they remain alive and within range.
Keep 2-3 Sorcerer Ribbits near your base or mining area. Their staggered cooldowns ensure almost constant buff coverage for Haste and Health Boost effects.
Trading with Ribbits
Ribbits use a trading system similar to villagers but with important differences. All trades require Amethyst Shards instead of Emeralds. Only Merchant and Fisherman Ribbits accept trades, while Nitwit, Gardener, and Sorcerer Ribbits do not have trading inventories.
How to Trade
Right-click a tradeable Ribbit while not sneaking to open the trading interface. The interface displays available trades with required Amethyst Shards on the left and offered items on the right. Trades have limited stock and become unavailable once depleted until the Ribbit restocks.

Ribbits restock their trades up to twice per day with a minimum 10-minute real-time interval between restocks. The first restock occurs after 12000 ticks (10 minutes) from the previous restock or trade. Waiting near a Ribbit does not accelerate restocking.
Obtaining Amethyst Shards
Amethyst Shards are obtained by mining Budding
Amethyst blocks found in Amethyst Geodes. These geodes generate underground in all Overworld biomes. Each fully-grown Amethyst Cluster drops 4 Amethyst Shards when mined with any pickaxe. Using Fortune enchantments increases the drop rate.
Players should establish an Amethyst farm by locating a geode with multiple Budding Amethyst blocks. Budding Amethyst cannot be mined or moved, so the farm must be built around the natural geode location. Amethyst Clusters regrow over time, providing a renewable source of shards.
Each Ribbit's trades are randomly selected when it first spawns. Two Merchant Ribbits in the same village may offer completely different selections. Check multiple Ribbits to find desired items.
Decorative Blocks
Ribbits introduces 14 decorative blocks themed around swamps and mushrooms. These blocks are primarily obtained through trading with Merchant Ribbits or found naturally in Ribbit Villages.
Toadstool Blocks
Three variants of Toadstool blocks exist:
Brown Toadstool,
Red Toadstool, and
Toadstool Stem. These blocks are purely decorative and function similarly to vanilla mushroom blocks. They can be used to construct mushroom-themed buildings matching the aesthetic of Ribbit Villages.

Small Toadstools are placeable decorative variants that appear as tiny mushrooms. Unlike the larger blocks, small Toadstools cannot be crafted and are found naturally in Ribbit Villages. They come in fixed sizes and do not grow or spread.
Mossy Oak Blocks
Mossy Oak Planks are crafted by combining Oak Planks with either
Vines or
Moss Blocks in a shapeless recipe. These planks can then be crafted into stairs, slabs, fences, fence gates, and doors using standard wooden block recipes. Mossy Oak blocks provide a weathered, overgrown aesthetic perfect for swamp-themed builds.
Swamp Plants
Lush Lily Pads are larger, flower-covered lily pads that function identically to vanilla lily pads. They generate naturally in swamps and come in three visual variants with different flower colors and sizes.
Swamp Daisies are decorative flowers found in Ribbit Villages.
Umbrella Leaves are large leaf blocks that Ribbits hold over their heads during rain.
Swamp Lanterns
Swamp Lanterns are light-emitting blocks similar to vanilla Lanterns but with a unique swamp theme. They can be placed on the ground or hanging from ceilings but cannot be attached to walls. Swamp Lanterns emit the same light level as regular Lanterns, providing a light level of 15.
Frequently Asked Questions
Ribbits restock trades only twice per day with a minimum 10-minute interval between restocks. If trades remain depleted, wait at least 10 real-time minutes. Ribbits must also not be currently trading with a player to trigger restocking.
Ribbits can be transported using Boats,
Minecarts, or by leading them with held items. Once relocated, right-click them with an Amethyst Shard while sneaking to set a new home position. This prevents them from attempting to return to their original village.
Gardener Ribbits water tilled soil within 16 blocks, hydrating dry farmland and applying a growth boost similar to bone meal. This eliminates the need for water sources near farms. Each Gardener has a 60-second cooldown between watering sessions.
Nitwit Ribbits spontaneously form bands when multiple are near each other during daytime. Players can encourage this by playing a Maraca purchased from Merchant Ribbits. Gathering 4-5 Nitwits in an enclosed area increases the frequency of music sessions.
Sorcerer Ribbits grant Haste for faster mining, Health Boost for increased maximum health, and Resistance when hostile mobs are nearby. Buffs apply to all players within 32 blocks and have a 10-minute cooldown per Sorcerer.
Ribbits cannot breed and do not produce baby Ribbits. New Ribbits only spawn naturally in generated Ribbit Villages. To obtain more Ribbits, players must locate additional villages in unexplored swamp biomes.
During rain, Ribbits automatically hold lily pads or leaves over their heads as umbrellas. This is a cosmetic behavior that adds charm to the mod. The umbrellas also activate when Ribbits fall from heights, providing a slow-fall effect similar to
Elytra gliding.
