Evil Hunter [Horror] by DregIr is not a standard creature addon. It is a structured horror experience that begins the moment you enter the world and escalates across seven phases until you force a confrontation with the entity hunting you. The mod drops a Ritual Book into your inventory on spawn, immediately pointing you toward ancient coordinates and setting a chain of events in motion that you cannot stop, only survive.
Players describe it as easily the scariest Minecraft mod they have played, with one walking away after their first death and never going back. The horror unfolds through 23 distinct events ranging from ambient whispers and screen flickering to a Doppelganger walking through your base and an unkillable entity that breaks through doors to reach you.
The mod includes a built-in mature content warning displayed at world load. The narrative behind the horror is dark and deliberate. Completing the full arc rewards the True Silver Sword, a weapon you cannot craft, only earn.
Getting Started with Evil Hunter [Horror]
The mod’s progression flows through crafting, surviving, and eventually forcing the final boss fight at the Ritual Block. Every step requires Silver Ore as a foundation, so your first priority after reading the Ritual Book is finding a cave. Players who rush to the ritual site without preparation die instantly when the defense phase begins.
Read the Ritual Book
Check your inventory immediately after spawning

The Ritual Book spawns in your inventory when the world loads. Right-clicking it triggers a Ritual Search, which prints coordinates to a Ritual Block structure hidden somewhere in the world, typically several hundred blocks from spawn. This is your destination and your goal. The book’s poem is flavor, not a puzzle. Just read the coordinates and start moving.
If you right-click the Ritual Block without a Blood Sphere in hand, the message “It was all in vain” appears and nothing useful happens. You need to prepare before triggering the boss fight. Gather your materials first.
Mine and Smelt Silver Ore
Silver is the foundation of all crafting in this mod
Silver Ore generates underground and requires at least an Iron Pickaxe to mine. Breaking a Silver Ore block drops Raw Silver, which you then smelt in a Furnace to produce Silver Ingots. These are used in every important recipe in the mod, from the Cross to the Ritual Sword to the Blood Sphere. Mine a full stack before moving on.
Craft the Cross
Your tool for banishing the Hunter during the Hunt event
The Cross is made from two Iron Ingots, two Silver Ingots, and one Redstone in a plus-sign pattern at a Crafting Table. It is the item you use during the Hunt event to banish the Evil Hunter and collect its soul. Without the Cross, you cannot progress past this stage. Make at least two in case you need a spare.
Survive the Hunt
Use the Cross to banish the Evil Hunter when it appears
During the mod’s first active horror phase, the Hunt event triggers and the Evil Hunter appears in your world. This entity moves fast, breaks through most blocks, and cannot be killed by conventional means. When the Hunter is near you, right-click it with the Cross in your hand. This banishes it in a lightning strike and places a Hunter’s Soul into your inventory. The Hunt ends immediately.
Surviving the Hunt while it is happening is the hardest part of early progression. The entity has a detection range so large it can find you anywhere in the loaded world, and it moves faster than you. Players report the movement restriction effect that triggers during this event as among the most frightening moments in the mod. Keep the Cross in your hotbar and use it the moment the Hunter is within reach.
Craft the Blood Sphere
The two items needed to trigger the boss fight
The Blood Sphere is made from two Gold Ingots, five Glass blocks, two Silver Ingots, and the Hunter’s Soul you collected from the Hunt. This is the item you hold when right-clicking the Ritual Block to start the boss fight. The Ritual Sword is made separately from Gold, Silver, Iron, Redstone, a Stick, and Lapis Lazuli. You need both before approaching the altar.
Trigger the Ritual
Travel to the Ritual Block structure you found with the Ritual Book. Hold the Blood Sphere and right-click the Ritual Block. The sky warps, music shifts, and the boss fight begins. Have the Ritual Sword in your hotbar before you start. You cannot damage the Hunter during the fight with any other weapon, and stopping to search your inventory costs you health.
The Horror Phase System
Evil Hunter [Horror] runs a seven-phase escalation system that operates across your entire session. Phase One begins automatically and triggers the Hunt event described above. Each completed phase unlocks the next, bringing increasingly severe horror events until the narrative reaches its conclusion in Phase Seven.
The mod tracks 23 named horror events that fire throughout your session. Early events include Ambient Whispers, Screen Flicker, and Phantom Steps. As phases advance, events become more intrusive: Ink Drip causes a message saying the ceiling is dripping faster, Broken Reality warps the world visually, and Ground Crack plays beneath your feet. Phase Four introduces Flesh blocks that replace terrain, while Phase Six activates what the mod calls 10x Chaos, a maximal horror state where multiple systems run simultaneously.

The Crying Woman entity appears independently of the boss fight and can be defeated like a standard mob. Killing her advances an internal flag that alters the atmosphere shader applied to your screen. The Doppelganger is a visual copy of your character that roams near you without attacking. Both entities are part of the atmosphere system, not loot opportunities.
After the first ritual event fires, the Ritual Book transforms into an Evil Book. Right-clicking it shows different text depending on your current phase. Players who check it regularly find new clues about what steps come next.
The Boss Fight: Four Phases of the Ritual
The boss fight activates when you use the Blood Sphere at the Ritual Block. It runs four distinct phases with different mechanics, enemy types, and required items. Dying or letting too many shadows reach the altar during any phase triggers a failure state that applies Nausea, strips your True Cross, and exits the fight. The sky returns to normal but the horror events continue.
Defend Phase
Stop the shadows from reaching the ritual altar

Shadow entities spawn in a ring around the ritual site and walk toward the altar. If three shadows reach it, the ritual fails. You are given a True Cross at the start of this phase and must use it to destroy each shadow before it arrives. The countdown timer displays on your action bar. Survival here is a matter of keeping eyes on all sides and prioritizing the closest shadow at any moment.
Hunter Phase
Attack the Hunter with the Ritual Sword only
When the defense timer expires, the Hunter spawns nearby with a boss bar labeled “HUNTER” and 150 health. Only the Ritual Sword deals damage. Swinging any other weapon at the Hunter cancels the hit and shows a reminder on your action bar. The Hunter moves at a very fast walking speed and will break through most blocks to reach you. Reduce its health to 75 to trigger the next phase.
The Ritual Sword auto-enchants with Fire Aspect IV when placed in your main hand, so each hit also sets the Hunter on fire. Keep moving and avoid getting cornered. The Hunter can open doors and climb walls, so staying in the open gives you more room to maneuver.
Dodge Phase
Survive the Hunter’s ranged projectile attacks
At half health, the Hunter becomes invisible and begins firing three types of particle projectiles at you. One type fires directly from the Hunter’s position, one spirals inward from the sides, and one rises from the ground. Each projectile deals between 1 and 2 damage on contact. The action bar shows “DODGE!” and a countdown. Staying mobile and watching the particle trails tells you where each attack is coming from. This phase ends when the timer runs out.
Shield Phase
Destroy the five Shadow enemies to break the Hunter’s protection
Five Shadow enemies spawn orbiting the Hunter in a ring, and the Hunter gains a Resistance effect that makes it immune to all damage. Right-click each Shadow with your True Cross to destroy it with a lightning strike. Once all five Shadows are gone, the Hunter’s shield breaks. Continue attacking with the Ritual Sword until the Hunter reaches 30 health, at which point the Saver entity appears and finishes the fight in a scripted sequence.

When the Saver performs its finishing animation, the Hunter is removed, the boss bar clears, and the True Silver Sword appears in your inventory. The Ritual Sword is consumed. A short lore sequence plays through action bar messages ending with “It is done.” and “But you felt it all was fake…”
Silver Equipment
Silver Ore is the resource that gates all meaningful crafting in this mod. Smelting Raw Silver produces Silver Ingots, which are used in the Silver armor set, the Silver tool set, the Cross, and the Blood Sphere. Getting a full set of Silver gear before triggering the boss fight makes the fight substantially more survivable.

Silver Armor
The Silver armor set provides 18 total armor protection across all four pieces, matching Diamond armor, with a toughness value of 1.0. It uses Silver Ingots as its repair material. The full set covers Helmet, Chestplate, Leggings, and Boots. Wearing a full set before entering the boss fight means each hit from the Hunter or projectiles during the Dodge phase deals noticeably less damage.

Boots
Silver Tools
The mod adds a full Silver tool set including a Pickaxe, Axe, Shovel, and Hoe. These are crafted using standard Minecraft tool patterns with Silver Ingots in place of the material tier. They are faster than Iron tools and serve the practical purpose of mining more Silver Ore efficiently for the crafting progression ahead.
Best Weapons in Evil Hunter [Horror]
The mod adds three weapons with very different purposes. The Silver Sword is your general combat option. The Ritual Sword is the mandatory boss weapon. The True Silver Sword is the endgame reward. Each has a specific role and knowing which to use prevents wasted resources.
Silver Sword
Ritual Sword
True Silver Sword
Silver Sword
The Silver Sword deals 11 attack damage, significantly stronger than a Diamond Sword, with 750 durability. It is your standard combat option for surviving the horror events and general exploration. Craft it with Silver Ingots using the standard Crafting Table sword pattern. Use this during general gameplay and the early hunting phase before the boss fight begins.
Ritual Sword
The Ritual Sword is the only weapon that deals damage to the Hunter during the boss fight. When you swing it, it applies Fire Aspect IV automatically, setting the Hunter on fire with each hit. It deals 6.5 attack damage per swing on its own, but the stacked fire damage adds meaningful pressure. The sword is consumed when the boss fight ends and cannot be retrieved afterward, so do not enchant it with expensive upgrades.
True Silver Sword
The True Silver Sword is the reward for completing the boss fight. It has 16 attack damage, comes pre-enchanted with Sharpness IV and Looting II, has no durability and cannot break, and cannot be crafted or obtained any other way. It is intended as the definitive endgame weapon once the horror arc is complete. The tooltip describes it as a holy weapon that purifies evil with righteous fire.
Tips for Success
Do not ignore the Ritual Book coordinates. Players in recorded playthroughs consistently spent time building bases and exploring before going to the ritual site, which delayed their access to the Blood Sphere recipe and left them repeatedly exposed to horror events they could have ended sooner. Navigate to the structure early, confirm its location, and note it in a waypoint before mining.
Keep the Cross in your hotbar from the moment you craft it. The Hunt event fires without warning and the Hunter moves faster than you expect. Players who had to open their inventory to find the Cross during the Hunt almost always died before they could use it. One slot in your hotbar dedicated to the Cross makes the difference between collecting a Hunter’s Soul and losing a run.
Mine enough Silver Ore for the full armor set, all tools, the Cross, the Ritual Sword, and the Blood Sphere before triggering the boss fight. The shopping list is: 24 Silver Ingots for armor, 11 more for the Cross and Ritual Sword, and 2 more for the Blood Sphere. A single caving session with a Silver Pickaxe typically covers this. Running out mid-boss and having to re-mine is a common failure mode.

During the Shield Phase of the boss fight, focus entirely on the five Shadows and ignore the Hunter. The Hunter is immune until all Shadows are gone. Players who keep attacking the shielded Hunter waste time and resources while Shadows move freely. Destroy each Shadow with the True Cross in sequence, starting with the one closest to you, then return to attacking the Hunter once the shield drops.
The horror events are more manageable when you understand they are scripted sequences rather than random threats. The movement restriction during the Hunt, the screen distortion, and the ambient text messages are all part of the phase system. Recognizing each event by its effect helps you respond correctly rather than panic. Players who identify what event is playing tend to survive noticeably longer.
Evil Hunter [Horror] FAQ
The Ritual Block structure generates underground or slightly below the surface. If you are standing at the coordinates and see nothing, dig down. The structure is small and can be partially buried depending on terrain generation. It is also possible the structure spawned inside a hill or at the base of a cliff.
No. The Hunter during the boss fight only takes damage from the Ritual Sword. Any other weapon cancels the hit entirely and shows a message reminding you to use the Ritual Sword. Outside of the boss fight, the Evil Hunter entity that appears during the Hunt event cannot be killed by any means. Use the Cross to banish it instead.
If three Shadows reach the altar during the Defend phase, or if the Shield phase timer expires before all Shadows are destroyed, the ritual fails. You receive Nausea and Blindness, the boss bar disappears, your True Cross is removed from inventory, and a “RITUAL FAILED” title appears. The horror events continue running. You will need to craft a new Blood Sphere with another Hunter’s Soul to attempt the fight again.
The movement restriction is a deliberate horror effect applied when the Evil Hunter is near you during the Hunt. It mimics the feeling of being frozen in place from fear. The effect is temporary and lifts once the Hunter moves away or you successfully banish it with the Cross. This effect was cited by players in multiple videos as the single most frightening moment in the mod.
The Hunter’s Soul drops when you use the Cross item on the Evil Hunter during the Hunt event. This banishes the entity and ends the Hunt. If you try to attack the Hunter without the Cross, your attacks deal no damage. The Soul is then combined with Silver Ingots, Gold Ingots, and Glass to craft the Blood Sphere needed to start the boss fight.
Yes. Right-clicking a Hunter’s Soul restores 2 hearts of your maximum health. The Hunt event applies a health penalty to your maximum health each time it ends, and the Soul reverses that penalty up to your original cap of 10 hearts. If you have several Souls from multiple Hunt events, consider whether using them to restore health or saving one for the Blood Sphere recipe is the better choice for your current run.
