The Sun Town (Doctor Nowhere/Sunman)

The Sun Town is a horror survival mod for Minecraft 1.20.1 that introduces Doctor Nowhere's Sunman, a towering creature that stalks players during daylight hours across every biome. Unlike standard Minecraft enemies, the Sunman resists fire, explosions, and most conventional weapons, making preparation essential before any encounter. The mod populates the world with several distinct entities: the main Sunman, the stationary Stalking Sunman, Jeppy Jothers who acts as a friendly shop vendor, and Longboy Bonsai who poses no direct threat. Players gather Scrap by smelting dirt to buy items from Jeppy Jothers and collect Stars from fallen creatures to craft The Sun block, which triggers a ritual that summons the Sunman directly. The experience rewards players who learn each creature's behavior, prepare their gear, and approach confrontations on their own terms rather than stumbling into them unprepared.

The Sun Town is a horror mod built around a single, terrifying figure: Doctor Nowhere's Sunman. This towering creature stalks daylight hours across every biome, immune to fire, explosions, and most conventional attacks, with enough health to outlast almost any weapon a player brings.

The mod adds a connected cast of creatures tied to the Sunman's world, a friendly trader who opens a shop, and a crafting ritual that lets players summon the Sunman directly into their world. The result is an experience where survival means understanding these creatures before they find you.

Getting Started with The Sun Town

First contact with this mod usually happens before players are ready. The Sunman spawns in broad daylight across any biome, and its massive silhouette is hard to miss. The most important early goal is getting iron gear before the first encounter, because stone and wood weapons will barely scratch these creatures. Players who play this mod consistently report that rushing iron as their first priority is what separates surviving the first day from losing their world.

1

Recognize the Creatures That Spawn Around You

The mod adds several different entities, and not all of them are hostile on sight. Knowing which is which prevents panicked retreats from friendly entities. It is recommended not to lose track of Jeppy Jothers, as they are essential to the mod's progression.

The Sunman has two stages. Before the ritual, he stalks as a harmless entity, but sends threatening messages and keeps staring at the players. The hostility is activated via a sun ritual.

The Sunman (25m tall) spawns in daylight and will stare at players with a scripted dialogue sequence before attacking. The Stalking Sunman stands completely still and simply stares. At night, he despawns.

Jeppy Jothers can be found wandering around any biome, and aren't hostile - may even help you defeat other hostiles!

Jeppy Jothers (3m tall) wanders around fighting hostile mobs and will open a shop when right-clicked. Longboy Bonsai (10m) is a stationary figure that does not chase players.

Longboy Bonsai only attacks if you get within its range; it doesn't move, so it's optional to approach or not.
2

Smelt Dirt to Make Scrap

Jeppy Jothers provides useful items as well as a sun item, which could be used to

Scrap is the shop currency and the only way to buy from Jeppy Jothers. The recipe is simple: smelt any type of dirt in a furnace, and each piece of dirt produces one Scrap.

Coal
Furnace
Scrap

Dirt is one of the most available resources in the game, which means building up a Scrap supply is never a limiting factor. Collect a stack of dirt and smelt it early to have currency ready when a Jeppy Jothers appears.

3

Kill Creatures to Collect Stars

Stars drop from Jeppy Jothers, Longboy Bonsai, Sunman Baby, Sunman Toddler, and Jeppy Jothers (Sunman) on death. These items are Rare rarity and stack to 64. Stars serve as the primary crafting material for the Sun block, which is needed for the mod's signature summoning ritual.

Baby Sunmen can be found at night; they are particularly useful for farming Stars, or Jeppy Jothers during the day if more than 1 has been found.

Prioritizing kills on the smaller, less dangerous creatures like Sunman Baby and Jeppy Jothers is the safest way to build up a Star supply before engaging the main Sunman. Sunman Baby appears at night in dark areas, so setting up a simple mob farm is effective for Star Farms.

The Sun

Nine Stars arranged in a full 3x3 crafting grid produce one The Sun block. Placing the block and right-clicking it during daytime triggers a scripted summoning sequence: the block plays the Wither's spawning sound, displays dialogue from the Sunman, and after several seconds spawns a Sunman entity alongside a lightning bolt.

Right-clicking at night displays the message "The sun has not awakened," and nothing happens. Breaking the Sun block without triggering it drops 9 Stars, so it can be safely unplaced if the ritual needs to wait. The ritual begins the battle between players and the Sunman.

Do Not Trigger the Ritual Unprepared

The Sunman that spawns from the Sun block immediately begins its scripted dialogue sequence and then attacks. It has 1024 health, 20 armor, and resists fire, explosion, potions, and most environmental damage. Triggering the ritual without iron or diamond weapons and solid armor is almost certainly fatal.

All Creatures in The Sun Town

The mod adds seven distinct entities across two categories: the Sunman family and the Sun Folk. Each has different stats, behaviors, and roles in the world. The comparison below covers all naturally spawnable creatures.

All entities except Sunman Baby spawn in any biome at any time of day when light levels are above 8, meaning they appear in outdoor areas during daylight. Sunman Baby uses standard hostile mob spawning rules and appears in darkness at night. The Jeppy Jothers (Sunman) variant only spawns when a Sunman despawns at nightfall, replacing it at the same location.

The Sunman

The Sunman is the centerpiece of the mod. It is enormous, sun-faced, and walks with an unsettling deliberateness that players consistently describe as one of the most visually striking things in horror mods. Its silhouette against the sky makes it identifiable from hundreds of blocks away, which is intended; it wants to be seen.

When the Sunman first spawns near a player, it does not immediately attack. Instead, it begins a scripted encounter: it stares at the player while playing custom audio and displaying a dialogue sequence in the chat. The lines include "The light is so much better... Now that you're in it..." and "Don't blink. I want to see the color leave." During this phase, it locks the nearest player into Survival mode, applies Speed VI to itself, and gradually locks its gaze toward the player before charging.

The Sunman is immune to fire, explosions, falling, lightning, drowning, potions, and area effect clouds. Direct melee and ranged weapon damage works, but the 1024 health pool means even a fully enchanted Netherite sword requires sustained combat. The creature despawns at night, and when it does, it spawns a Jeppy Jothers (Sunman) at the same location before disappearing.

Stalking Sunman

The Stalking Sunman shares the Sunman's health and armor values but has zero attack damage and zero movement speed. It stands completely still in its "Stare" animation, locked to the player's position. It still has its own tick behavior through a procedure that fires each game tick, so it is not entirely inert.

The Stalking Sunman is the most common naturally spawning variant, appearing at a higher weight than the moving Sunman.

The Sunman Toddler and Sunman Baby

These two entities represent younger, smaller forms of the Sunman and are genuinely dangerous despite their names. The Sunman Toddler actively targets players, Villagers, and Pillagers and has 600 health with 15 attack damage per hit. It moves quickly at 0.8 speed and has a follow range of 255 blocks, meaning it will chase a player from a very long distance. Its resistance to fire, magic, potions, and explosions makes it a scaled-down version of the main Sunman in terms of immunities.

The Sunman Baby is the smallest form and spawns in darkness, following standard hostile mob rules, meaning it appears at night or in unlit caves. It targets hostile mobs rather than players, which makes it an occasional, unexpected ally rather than an immediate threat. Its 200 health and 6 attack damage make it manageable with iron-tier gear. Both Baby and Toddler drop Stars on death, which makes them the safest farming targets for Star collection compared to the full Sunman.

Longboy Bonsai

Longboy Bonsai is a tall, gangly entity that does not move. Its movement speed is zero, and it does not chase players. It does have 7 attack damage and will hit anything that enters its melee range, but approaching it is optional. Like the Stalking Sunman, it runs a tick procedure each game tick.

Jeppy Jothers and the Shop

Jeppy Jothers is a Sun Folk entity that wanders the world, attacking hostile mobs instead of players. It is a passive-to-player creature that will fight Zombies, Skeletons, and other monsters alongside whoever is nearby. This sometimes causes confusion on first encounter since players expect every new creature in a horror mod to be hostile. The Sun Town's Portuguese community noted that Jeppy Jothers was the element that surprised them most, having one fight a zombie on their behalf before they realized they could trade with it.

Right-clicking any Jeppy Jothers entity opens the Jeppy Jothers Shop. The shop uses Scrap as its currency, and each item costs one Scrap. Available purchases include an Iron Sword, a Star, an Apple, a Cake, Charcoal, and a Compass. The shop provides a reliable source of Stars for players who want to build toward The Sun block without farming combat, and the Iron Sword gives early-game players an immediate weapon upgrade if they arrive with Scrap. There are two Jeppy Jothers variants: the regular Jeppy Jothers that spawn naturally during daylight, and the Jeppy Jothers (Sunman) that spawn specifically when a Sunman despawns at night.

The Sun Block and the Summoning Ritual

The Sun block is the mod's crafting centerpiece. Placing 9 Stars across all nine slots of a crafting table produces one The Sun block. Its tooltip reads "Place it and right-click it... You'll see what happens." Breaking the block without activating it returns all 9 Stars, so there is no cost to placing it and walking away.

Right-clicking the placed block during daytime triggers a multi-stage ritual. The block first plays the Wither spawning sound, and a chat message appears: "I have arrived..." Seconds later, cave ambient sounds play along with "I was waiting it sooo long out here... Alone..." followed by "Summon me in your world... Dear Sun," After this sequence, a Sunman spawns at the block's location alongside a lightning bolt strike. The block itself is replaced by air during the ritual. At night, the ritual fails silently with the message "The sun has not awakened."

The Sun Block Drops Stars When Broken

Breaking a placed The Sun block before right-clicking it always returns 9 Stars. This makes it safe to place and remove as many times as needed while planning the ritual location, since no materials are lost.

Tips for Success

Get iron weapons before exploring open terrain. The Sunman spawns during daylight in any biome, and the scripted encounter sequence locks the player into Survival mode before the attack begins. Having at least an iron sword significantly improves the odds of surviving the initial encounter. Players who recorded their first sessions consistently noted that dying before crafting iron was the most common early failure.

Do not engage the Stalking Sunman up close without reason. It has 1024 health and will not move toward players on its own, but it deals no damage either. Ignoring it is almost always the correct choice. Engaging it wastes resources and time without providing Stars. Like the main Sunman, the Stalking Sunman drops the Sun block on death, but neither variant drops Stars; only smaller entities do.

Farm Sunman Baby and Jeppy Jothers for Stars before targeting the main Sunman. Both are manageable with iron gear and consistently drop Stars. Jeppy Jothers fights hostile mobs first, making it easier to pick off during combat.

Keep Scrap in your inventory when Jeppy Jothers is nearby. The shop is accessible whenever a Jeppy Jothers entity is within range and provides immediate Iron Sword access for players who spawn without the materials to craft one. Smelting a stack of dirt produces 64 Scrap, which covers all shop purchases multiple times over with minimal resource investment.

The Sun Town FAQ

Why is the Sunman so hard to kill?

The Sunman has 1024 health, 20 armor points, and 999 armor toughness, which makes it effectively immune to most damage reduction through armor penetration math. It is also immune to fire, explosions, fall damage, lightning, drowning, potions, and area effect clouds. Only direct weapon hits deal full effective damage. Players in video content consistently described it as feeling "immortal" before realizing that sustained sword hits are the only reliable method.

What does the Stalking Sunman do?

The Stalking Sunman stands completely still in its Stare animation and has zero attack damage, meaning it cannot directly hurt players through normal melee. It does run a tick procedure each game tick that may have additional behavior. The creature shares the main Sunman's immunity list and 1024 health, making it extremely durable if players choose to engage it. Its primary function is atmospheric , it watches without moving and makes the environment feel observed.

How do I Spend stars?

Right-click any Jeppy Jothers entity, including the Jeppy Jothers (Sunman) variant that spawns at night when the Sunman despawns. The shop requires Scrap as its currency. Scrap is made by smelting any type of dirt in a furnace, with one dirt producing one Scrap. Each shop item costs one Scrap. The shop sells an Iron Sword, a Star, an Apple, a Cake, Charcoal, and a Compass.

What happens when the Sunman despawns at night?

When the Sunman despawns at nightfall, it runs its despawn procedure before vanishing. This procedure clears a 7x28x7 block area around the Sunman's position and spawns a Jeppy Jothers (Sunman) entity at the same location. The Jeppy Jothers (Sunman) functions identically to the regular Jeppy Jothers and also opens the shop when right-clicked. Players can take advantage of this cycle by engaging the Sunman during daytime and then trading with the Jeppy Jothers that appears at night.

Can I summon the Sunman at night using The Sun block?

No. Right-clicking The Sun block at night displays the message "The sun has not awakened" and the ritual does not begin. The summoning only triggers during daytime. The block can be placed and right-clicked at night without any consequence, so it can be staged in advance for a daytime activation. Breaking the block at any time returns the 9 Stars used to craft it.
