Biomes O' Plenty is one of the most popular Minecraft mods of all time, adding over 60 new biomes across the Overworld, Nether, and End dimensions. With over 200 million downloads, this mod transforms world exploration by introducing diverse landscapes ranging from magical groves to volcanic wastelands.
The mod includes 14 new wood types, unique building blocks like
Rose Quartz and
Brimstone, and countless new flowers and foliage. Whether building in a tropical paradise or surviving in a
Flesh-covered Nether biome, Biomes O' Plenty offers something for every player.
Getting Started
Biomes O' Plenty integrates seamlessly into Minecraft's world generation. After installing the mod, new worlds automatically include all the new biomes. No special setup or configuration is required to start exploring.
The mod works in all three dimensions. Overworld biomes appear based on temperature and humidity, while Nether biomes replace portions of the vanilla Nether. End biomes generate on outer End islands beyond the main island.
Finding Specific Biomes
Use the locate command to quickly find specific biomes. Open the chat and type the biome's registry name with the biomesoplenty prefix. All biome names use underscores between words.
The mod includes an advancement called "Wanderer" that tracks your progress in discovering all Biomes O' Plenty biomes. Check your advancements menu to see which biomes you still need to find.
New Wood Types
Biomes O' Plenty adds 14 completely new wood types, each with a full set of blocks including Logs, Planks, Slabs, Stairs, Fences, Doors, Trapdoors, Signs, and Boats. These woods appear naturally in their respective biomes and offer builders a massive expansion of color palettes.

Dimension-Specific Wood
Hellbark trees grow in the Nether's Undergrowth biome, providing a source of wood in that dimension.
Empyreal trees spawn on outer End islands in the End Wilds biome, featuring pale white-purple wood and leaves.
Origin Oak is a nostalgic wood type found only in the Origin Valley biome, with bright lime-green leaves reminiscent of Minecraft's Alpha version. This biome recreates the look of early Minecraft.
Overworld Biomes
The Overworld receives the largest share of new biomes, with over 50 unique environments. These range from lush forests to barren wastelands, each with distinct terrain, vegetation, and atmosphere. Biomes are organized by climate zones, appearing naturally based on temperature.
Forest Biomes
The Redwood Forest features massive trees with trunks several blocks wide, creating a cathedral-like canopy. These trees dwarf vanilla forests and provide enormous amounts of wood. The forest floor is covered in
Ferns and
Podzol.
Seasonal Forest and Maple Woods showcase autumn foliage with trees in red, orange, and yellow. These biomes generate in temperate regions and offer three distinct
Maple Sapling colors. The Seasonal Orchard variant features golden birch-like trees.
The Mystic Grove is a magical forest featuring turquoise grass, purple water, blue Magic Trees, and giant
Red Mushrooms.
Allays spawn naturally here, making it valuable for players seeking these helpful mobs. Glowing flora illuminates the biome at night.
Dead Forest and Old Growth Dead Forest feature lifeless trees with bronze-colored leaves and branches protruding from trunks. These biomes have a desaturated color palette, creating an eerie atmosphere.
Plains and Field Biomes
Lavender Field is covered in tall purple Lavender plants that stretch across rolling hills. The Lavender Forest variant adds purple-leaved Jacaranda trees. These biomes frequently border each other, creating scenic purple landscapes.
The Prairie features sparsely placed oak trees among patches of
Barley. This open grassland offers excellent visibility and a peaceful environment for construction. The Pasture variant is filled with golden Barley stalks.
Highland biomes feature hilly terrain covered in various
wildflowers. Overhangs and cave openings frequently appear, adding visual interest. The grass has a rich green color that complements the diverse flora.
Tropical and Swamp Biomes
The Tropics biome features palm trees,
bamboo, and vibrant tropical flowers, including
Pink Hibiscus,
Blue Hydrangea, and
Orange Cosmos. This island biome generates in warm ocean regions and offers a paradise aesthetic.
Bayou is one of the best swamp variants in the mod, featuring excellent height variation and Willow trees draped in
Spanish Moss. The biome prioritizes water travel, with clear boat paths throughout.
Mud blocks create realistic wetland terrain.
The Rainforest uses Mahogany trees with tall, pillar-like trunks among dense ferns. Turquoise water pools appear throughout. The Rocky Rainforest variant adds
terracotta formations, creating one of the mod's most visually striking biomes.
Cold and Snowy Biomes
Auroral Garden is a stunning snowy biome featuring rainbow-colored trees. The Prismatic leaves change color based on their position in the world, creating a gradient across the landscape. Icy Iris flowers dot the snow-covered ground.
Muskeg features lifeless trees contrasting against pure white snow, creating a hauntingly beautiful winter scene. The Snowy Coniferous Forest and Snowy Maple Woods provide snowy variants of their temperate counterparts.
Desert and Wasteland Biomes
Volcanic Plains feature
Black Sand and dark green grass, creating a unique atmosphere. The volcanic biome itself contains
Smooth Basalt and
Magma blocks, though the Plains portion is far more visually appealing for building.
The Lush Desert uses
Orange Sandstone and integrates Acacia trees with height variation. This biome feels more alive than vanilla deserts. Orange Sand can be crafted into Orange Sandstone building blocks.
Wasteland biomes feature
Dried Salt ground and minimal vegetation.
Dead sprouts and
dry grass are the only plants that survive here. Dust particles float through the fog, emphasizing the desolate environment.
Special Biomes
Origin Valley recreates Alpha Minecraft's look, with bright lime-green grass and simple terrain. Origin Oak trees and
Origin Grass Blocks capture the nostalgic feel. Only
Poppies and
Dandelions spawn as flowers.
The Ominous Woods feature nearly black
Umbran leaves and deep navy blue grass.
Bramble blocks deal 1 damage when touched, adding danger to exploration. The dark water appears almost like a visual glitch against the rivers.
Pumpkin Patch is a cozy autumn biome filled with
Pumpkins,
Jack o'Lanterns, and giant Pumpkin blocks. Orange Maple trees and
Toadstools complete the fall aesthetic. The Jack o'Lanterns provide natural lighting at night.
Hot Springs features warm pools of water surrounded by
Thermal Calcite blocks. Steam rises from
Thermal Calcite Vents scattered throughout the biome. The warm water provides a unique visual effect, and the
calcite blocks offer exclusive building materials.
Nether Biomes
Biomes O' Plenty adds four unique Nether biomes, each with distinct resources and hazards. These biomes spawn alongside vanilla Nether biomes, significantly expanding the dimension's variety.
Crystalline Chasm
This biome is covered in
Rose Quartz Crystal clusters that emit a soft pink glow. A thick purple fog adds atmosphere, while the crystals create a tinkling ambient sound.
Rose Quartz Chunks can be collected and crafted into decorative blocks.

The crystals grow in small, medium, large, and cluster sizes, similar to Amethyst. While purely decorative, they provide excellent building materials for Nether bases or magical builds.
Erupting Inferno
Brimstone Fumaroles constantly spew fiery particles and steam throughout this biome. Lava pools appear frequently, making every step potentially dangerous. The flat terrain provides visibility but offers no cover from
Ghasts.

Brimstone blocks can be collected and crafted into
Brimstone Bricks for building. Touching a Brimstone Fumarole deals 1 damage from steam, creating a unique death message: "[Player] was steamed alive."
Brimstone Fumaroles deal damage when you stand on or near them. Watch your step and avoid building directly on these blocks unless you want constant damage.
Visceral Heap
This horrifying biome is made entirely of living
Flesh. The ground pulses with blood that drips from Flesh Tendons connecting the floor to the ceiling.
Eyebulb blocks blink occasionally, and
Pus Bubbles pop when touched.

Flesh blocks slow movement slightly when walked on. Using
Shears on Flesh blocks converts them to
Porous Flesh and drops a
Rotten Flesh item.
Hair blocks grow from Flesh when adjacent to Blood fluid.
Blood is a unique fluid found pooled throughout this biome. It can be collected with Buckets. When Flesh blocks are adjacent to Blood, they randomly spawn Hair, Pus Bubbles, Eyebulbs, or Flesh Tendons over time.
Undergrowth and Withered Abyss
The Undergrowth features Hellbark trees and green vines, providing the only native wood source in the Nether in this mod. Brambles and
Burning Blossoms cover the ground, with the flowers setting players on fire on contact.

Withered Abyss is a dark biome featuring
Blackstone Bulbs and
Blackstone Spines jutting from the ground. Patches of
Crying Obsidian and regular Obsidian appear naturally, useful for players seeking portal materials.
End Biomes
Four new End biomes generate on outer islands beyond the main End island. These expand the dimension's exploration potential with unique resources and visual variety. All End biomes feature the mod's Empyreal wood type.
End Wilds

This biome adds life to the otherwise barren End with Empyreal trees and
Enderphyte vegetation. The pale white-purple wood provides building materials in a dimension that typically lacks them.
Lumaloop plants climb upward like vines.
End Reef

Algal End Stone creates a coral-like appearance on island surfaces.
Barnacles attach to the undersides of islands, visible when flying around them.
Wispjelly blocks provide ambient glow throughout the biome.
End Flats
End Flats provides a barren, open landscape on the outer End islands. The terrain is relatively flat compared to vanilla End islands, making it easier to build or navigate. Standard
End Stone covers the surface with minimal features.
End Corruption

This mysterious biome features
Null blocks with glitched text names and corrupted appearances. The
Anomaly block displays scrambled characters, creating an unsettling atmosphere. Liquid
Null pools appear throughout.
Null Leaves and
Null Plants have similarly corrupted appearances. This biome represents the End's instability and offers unique decorative blocks for builds that embrace the corrupted aesthetic.
Cave Biomes
Two underground biomes add variety to cave exploration. These generate naturally in the Overworld, appearing as pockets within standard cave systems similar to vanilla Lush Caves or Dripstone Caves.
Glowing Grotto
This cave biome features Glowing Moss that spreads across stone surfaces.
Glowshrooms grow from the moss, providing natural illumination.
Glowworm Silk hangs from ceilings, creating an ethereal underground environment.

Glowing Moss Blocks can be bonemealed to spread the moss to adjacent surfaces. The block emits a low-level light, making it useful for subtle cave lighting in builds. Glowworm Silk can be used as armor trim material.
Spider Nest
This dangerous cave biome is covered in
Cobwebs,
Webbing blocks, and
Hanging Cobwebs.
Spider Eggs dot the floor and walls, spawning
Cave Spiders when broken or stepped on. Players must move carefully to avoid triggering multiple spawns.
Spider Eggs explode into Cave Spiders when you step on them, break them, or cause explosions nearby. Clear them carefully with ranged attacks or accept the spider swarm that follows.
Stringy Cobweb and Webbing blocks provide new building materials for spooky builds. Hanging Cobwebs drape from ceilings like Glowworm Silk, but they do not emit light.
Unique Blocks and Flora
Beyond wood types and biome-specific blocks, the mod adds numerous flowers, plants, and building materials. These enhance both exploration rewards and building possibilities.
New Sand Types
Three new sand colors significantly expand building options. Each sand type can be crafted into Sandstone variants, including regular, smooth, chiseled, and cut versions with full slab, stair, and wall support.
White Sand
Orange Sand
Black Sand
Flowers and Plants
Over 20 new flower types appear across various biomes.
Lavender comes in regular and white variants, with tall versions of each.
Blue Hydrangea,
Pink Hibiscus,
Orange Cosmos, and
Pink Daffodil add tropical and garden variety.
Glowflower emits light in the Mystic Grove.
Burning Blossom sets players on fire when touched in the Undergrowth.
Wilted Lily grows in Wasteland biomes. Each flower can be potted for decoration.
Special Vegetation
Toadstools appear in fungal and autumn biomes, with both small and huge variants.
Spanish Moss hangs from Willow trees in the Bayou, creating an atmosphere.
Cattails and
Reeds grow in wetland areas near water.
Clover patches include both regular and
Huge Clover variants with walkable petals. Huge
Lily Pads function like regular lily pads but cover more surface area.
Sea Oats and
Dune Grass populate beach biomes.
Bramble blocks deal 1 damage when touched, creating a unique death message: "[Player] was punctured to death." These appear in the Ominous Woods and Nether Undergrowth biomes.
Decorative Blocks
Flower Petal Blocks come in all 16 dye colors, crafted from vanilla Pink Petals. Thermal Calcite and Thermal Calcite Vents appear in the Hot Springs biome, providing unique building materials.
Rose Quartz Blocks are crafted from Rose Quartz Chunks found in the Crystalline Chasm. Brimstone Bricks offer a yellow-orange building block from the Erupting Inferno. Both materials expand Nether building options.
Crafting Recipes
All new building blocks follow standard vanilla crafting patterns. Sandstone variants use the same 2x2 arrangement as vanilla Sandstone. Rose Quartz Blocks require 4 Rose Quartz Chunks in a 2x2 pattern.
Block
Materials
Pattern
Slabs, Stairs, and Walls for all new stone types use the same crafting patterns as their vanilla equivalents. Chiseled and Smooth variants also follow vanilla conventions using Stonecutters or smelting.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, new biomes only generate in newly created chunks. While you can add the mod to an existing world, you must travel to unexplored areas to find new biomes. Creating a fresh world provides the best experience.
Compatibility varies by mod. Many terrain generation mods like Terralith work alongside Biomes O' Plenty. Check the mod pages for compatibility information. Some mods may require configuration to work together properly.
No, Biomes O' Plenty focuses exclusively on biomes, blocks, and flora. It does not add new mobs. However, vanilla mob spawning rules apply to new biomes, so you'll encounter appropriate mobs based on biome type and lighting.
The Mystic Grove biome spawns Allays naturally alongside Foxes, Rabbits, and Wolves. This makes it the easiest location to find and collect Allays without raiding Pillager Outposts or Woodland Mansions.
