The Let’s Do Vinery mod transforms Minecraft into a vintner’s paradise, adding a complete winemaking system with over 25 unique wines, each granting distinct status effects. But crafting wine is only half the journey. Understanding the aging system is what separates a casual winemaker from a master vintner producing maximum-potency brews.
Wine aging in Vinery works on a time-based system where bottles stored in proper wine racks gradually improve over Minecraft days. A freshly fermented wine provides basic effects lasting around 90 seconds. After 30 wine years of aging (720 Minecraft days), that same wine delivers effects lasting over 12 minutes at amplifier level V. The difference is substantial.
This guide covers the complete winemaking process from planting your first grape seeds to producing fully aged wines with maximum effect potency. You will learn how to craft the Fermentation Barrel, understand which grape varieties grow in each biome, master the juice extraction process, and most importantly, set up proper wine storage to age your collection over time.

Understanding Grape Varieties
Vinery includes eight grape varieties across four biome types, each available in red and white variants. The grape type you use determines which wines you can craft, as recipes require specific juice varieties. Premium wines often demand Taiga or Jungle grapejuice, making these harder-to-grow varieties valuable.
Plains Grapes (Red and White) are the most accessible variety. They spawn naturally in Plains biomes and grow under standard conditions with light level 9 or higher. These grapes produce basic wines like Red Wine (Speed) and serve as your entry point into winemaking.
Savanna Grapes (Red and White) grow in hot, bright conditions. They require light level 14 or higher to thrive, meaning they need direct sunlight or very strong artificial lighting. Find their seeds in Savanna biomes and consider building an open-air vineyard for optimal growth.
Taiga Grapes (Red and White) are cold-climate varieties with specific soil requirements. They need to be planted within 4 blocks of Podzol, Coarse Dirt, or Grass blocks to grow properly. Simply planting them on regular farmland in a non-Taiga biome will prevent growth. Build your Taiga vineyard in the native biome or import the correct soil types.
Jungle Grapes (Red and White) are unique climbing varieties that cannot grow in soil at all. They must be planted on Lattice blocks, which you craft from wooden planks. Place the Lattice, then right-click with Jungle Grape Seeds to attach the vine. These grapes produce juice required for some of the most powerful wines in the mod.

Step-by-Step Wine Aging Process
Craft the Fermentation Barrel
Open a Crafting Table and place a Barrel in the center slot. Add 4 Sticks in the top-middle and side-middle positions. The Fermentation Barrel is the only block that can transform Grape Juice into finished wine with status effects.
Craft Wine Bottles
Wine Bottles are crafted by stacking 2 Glass Bottles vertically in the crafting grid. This produces 4 Wine Bottles per craft. You will need these to collect the fermented wine from the barrel.
Grow and Harvest Grapes
Plant Grape Seeds on a Grapevine Stem or Lattice. Stems are the recommended method because they yield 4-6 Grapes per harvest compared to 1-2 when planted directly in soil. Right-click mature grapes to harvest without breaking the plant.
Different grape varieties spawn in specific biomes. Red and White Grapes appear in Plains. Savanna Red and White Grapes spawn in Savanna biomes. Taiga grapes grow better in Podzol or Coarse Dirt. Jungle grapes require a Lattice to grow properly.
Crush Grapes in the Grapevine Pot
Place the Grapevine Pot on the ground. Add exactly 6 Grapes to the pot by right-clicking with grapes in hand. Stand on top of the pot and jump repeatedly until the contents look smooth and liquid. The grape mash transforms into Grape Juice after sufficient stomping.
You should see the pot contents change from lumpy grape mash to a smooth liquid. If the grapes still appear chunky, continue jumping until fully crushed.
Collect the Grape Juice
Right-click the Grapevine Pot while holding an empty Wine Bottle. The juice type matches your grape variety. Red Grapes produce Red Grapejuice, White Grapes produce White Grapejuice, and specialty grapes like Taiga or Jungle create their respective juice types.
Place the Fermentation Barrel
Place the Fermentation Barrel in your winery area. Right-click the barrel to open its interface. The GUI shows slots for juice input, ingredient slots, and an output slot for the finished wine.
Add Juice and Ingredients to the Barrel
Each wine recipe requires a specific juice type, juice amount, and additional ingredients. Place the required Grapejuice bottles into the barrel. Add the recipe-specific ingredients to the ingredient slots. Insert an empty Wine Bottle if the recipe requires one for output.
Basic wines like Red Wine require 10 Red Grapejuice and 1 Sugar. Premium wines demand more juice and special ingredients. Cristel Wine needs 25 Red Grapejuice plus Sugar, Feather, and Blaze Rod. The higher the juice requirement, the stronger the wine effects.
Wines with higher juice requirements generally produce stronger effects. Cristel Wine requires 25 juice units while basic Red Wine only needs 10. Plan your grape farming accordingly for premium wines.
Wait for Fermentation to Complete
Close the barrel interface and wait for fermentation. The barrel processes the ingredients over time automatically. When complete, open the barrel and collect your finished wine from the output slot. The wine now grants beneficial status effects when consumed.
You should now have a finished wine bottle in your inventory. Hover over it to see the granted effects. Different wines provide different buffs based on their recipe ingredients.
How Wine Aging Works
After fermentation produces your wine bottle, the aging process begins. This is separate from fermentation and determines how powerful your wine’s effects become when consumed.
The Aging Timeline
Wine ages in real Minecraft time, measured in “wine years.” By default, 24 Minecraft days equals 1 wine year. As wine ages, two things improve: the effect duration gets longer, and the effect amplifier increases.
A freshly fermented wine provides a base effect duration of 90 seconds (1800 ticks). Each wine year adds 10 additional seconds of duration, capping at 12 minutes 30 seconds (15000 ticks). The effect amplifier starts at level 0 and increases by 1 every 6 wine years, reaching a maximum of level V after 30 wine years of aging.
Duration: 90 seconds base + 10 seconds per wine year (max 12:30)Amplifier: +1 level every 6 wine years (max level V)Max Potency: 30 wine years = 720 Minecraft days
Wine Storage Requirements
Wine only ages when stored in Vinery storage blocks. Placing wine in a vanilla Minecraft chest stops the aging process entirely. The mod provides several storage options designed specifically for aging wine.
Wine Racks come in three sizes across every wood type in the game. Small racks hold 4 bottles, mid-size racks display bottles elegantly with glass panes, and big racks store up to 9 bottles. Craft these using planks and slabs of your preferred wood type.
Wine Boxes provide compact storage and work well for transporting aged wines. Storage Pots and Shelves also function as valid aging containers. Any Vinery-specific storage block will allow your wine to continue aging over time.
Wine stored in regular chests, barrels, or your inventory will NOT age. Always transfer finished wine to Wine Racks, Wine Boxes, or other Vinery storage blocks if you want the effects to improve over time.
Checking Wine Age
Hover over any wine bottle to see its current age and effect stats. The tooltip displays the wine’s age in years, the current effect with its amplifier level, and how many days remain until the next upgrade. This lets you track exactly when your wine will reach the next tier of potency.
Wine Types and Their Effects
Vinery includes 26 wines, each granting a unique status effect. The table below shows every wine with its effect, required juice type and amount, and additional ingredients needed for fermentation.

Combat wines like Aegis Wine, Eiswein, and Jellie Wine benefit most from aging since longer durations matter in extended fights. Instant-effect wines like Chorus Wine (Teleport) and Creepers Crush (Explosion) gain less benefit from aging since their effects trigger immediately.
Tips for Success
Maximizing your wine production requires strategic planning and some insider knowledge from experienced vintners.
Always grow grapes on Grapevine Stems rather than directly in soil. Stems produce 4-6 grapes per harvest while ground planting yields only 1-2. This dramatically increases your juice production efficiency.
The Winemaker armor set provides a significant advantage. When wearing the complete set consisting of Straw Hat, Winemaker Apron, Winemaker Leggings, and Winemaker Boots, Bone Meal is no longer consumed when used on your grapevines. This allows unlimited crop acceleration.
Taiga grapes grow faster in Podzol or Coarse Dirt. If you transplant them to regular grass, yields decrease. Build your vineyard in the native biome or use the correct soil type for best results.
Jungle grape varieties require Lattices for proper growth. Place Oak Lattices or any wood variant, then right-click with Jungle Grape Seeds to attach them. These vines cannot grow in soil at all.
Frequently Asked Questions
Check that you have the correct juice type and amount for your recipe. Each wine requires a specific variety of Grapejuice. Red Wine needs Red Grapejuice, not White. Also verify you added all required ingredients and an empty Wine Bottle if the recipe demands one. Some recipes require the Wine Bottle while others do not.
Juice types are determined by grape variety and color. Red Grapejuice comes from red grapes in Plains. Red Taiga Grapejuice comes from red Taiga grapes. Red Jungle Grapejuice comes from red Jungle grapes. Each juice type unlocks different wine recipes with unique effects. Premium wines often require Taiga or Jungle juice varieties.
Fermentation time is fixed by the mod and cannot be accelerated through normal means. Set up multiple Fermentation Barrels to process several batches simultaneously. This parallel approach is more effective than trying to speed up individual barrels.
Not all recipes require an empty Wine Bottle. Basic wines like Red Wine and most standard varieties need one. However, some specialty wines like Bolvar Wine, Solaris Wine, and Lilitu Wine have their bottle requirement set to false. Check each recipe individually in the barrel interface.
