Thorn Pendant

Relics is a mod that introduces over 20 new items into Minecraft, offering additional functionality to players at all stages of the game. It’s also compatible with other mods, such as Artifacts, from which the Thorn Pendant originates, adding over another 30 Relics.

Each Relic comes with a single ability or multiple, that can be leveled up and upgraded over time. You can learn about all the other available items in our Relics Mod Wiki.

Obtaining

Poisons anyone who dares attack the Relic Bearer. It can be equipped in the Necklace slot.

The Thorn Pendant can be found in Jungles or biomes with key terms such as Jungle, Rainforest, Tropics, Wildwood, Thicket, Boscage, Humid, or Bamboo. This is in line with the theme of the Necklace, as it appears to have thorns from this sort of climate.

Relic Quality & Rerolling

When you pick up a Relic, it comes with a quality indicator that you can see by hovering over the portrait image or by looking at the circles underneath it. Each Relic is rated between 0 and 5, based on the quality of its individual abilities.

An ability’s stats can be rerolled, with each stat having a specified minimum and maximum value (refer to the abilities section below for details). To further increase the stats beyond these limits, you will need to use Upgrade Points. Rerolling costs 50 Minecraft Experience for each attempt. Additionally, each time the stats are rerolled, the Luck value will increase by one percent for every stat that hasn’t been successfully improved.

As Luck increases, the likelihood of obtaining better rerolled stats also rises. However, each percentage point of Luck will raise the reroll cost by an additional 5 Minecraft Experience points. For example, at 10% Luck, a reroll would cost 100 Minecraft Experience, while at 50% Luck, the cost would be 300 Minecraft Experience, and so on.

Usage

The Relic is for defense. When equipped, it possesses a poisonous defense ability that deflects attacks from entities back to them as damage over time, mimicking a poison effect. This ability is passive and requires no input from the player.

Abilities

A single ability is available for the Thorn Pendant: Poisonous Defence. The Thorn Pendant has a maximum level of 10. A total of 10 Upgrade Points can be obtained through leveling the Thorn Pendant.

Poisonous Defense

When equipped in the player’s necklace slot in the curios interface, it gives the Player a X% chance to reflect Y% damage and apply poison to the target attacking the player for Z seconds.

This self-defense relic is highly useful because it can turn the tide of battles that the player did not initiate. When attacked, the aggressor has a chance of being afflicted with poison, which deals damage over time, and they also receive a percentage of the damage they deal to the player.

It is not useful against those entities that may one-shot you, or Creepers that explode and then die, as the damage over time effect won’t affect them.

Poisonous Defence costs 1 Upgrade Points per level, with a maximum level of 10.

Constellations

To unlock an ability for the Thorn Pendant, it’s necessary to connect the stars hidden beneath the fog in such a way that the resulting constellation matches the image in the background, and completes the puzzle. When the constellation is correctly aligned, the ability will automatically be researched.

Above is the constellation for the Thorn Pendant, allowing players to unlock the Poisonous Defence ability. Hints can be unlocked in the research window for 50 Minecraft Experience each, or the entire constellation can be revealed for 200 Minecraft Experience.

Experience Sources

Relic Experience is required to level up a Relic, gain Upgrade Points, and spend said points on upgrading abilities. The Thorn Pendant offers two different ways to obtain Relic Experience.

The First way to gain Relic Experience would be through its intended usage, which would be for each use of the Poisonous Defence ability, where each activation of this ability would gain the Relic +1 Relic Experience.

Like many other Relics, the Thorn Pendant makes use of Experience Spreading. Each time any Relic in the inventory gains experience, regardless of the method, the Thorn Pendant also gains 25% of that experience.

Leveling

The Thorn Pendant Relic has a maximum level of 10, providing 10 Upgrade Points. The table below shows the cost of upgrading abilities.

Config

To edit the configuration for an Artifact-compatible Relic, players must update the enabledExtendedConfigs: false option within relics.yaml in their Minecraft config folder, by changing the value to true.

After relaunching Minecraft, a rarcompat folder will be visible in the config folder. Inside here, look for and edit the thorn_pendant.yaml file.
