Relics is a mod that introduces over 20 new items into Minecraft, offering additional functionality to players at all stages of the game. It’s also compatible with other mods, such as Artifacts, from which the Charm of Shrinking originates, adding over another 30 Relics.
Each Relic comes with a single ability or multiple, that can be leveled up and upgraded over time. You can learn about all the other available items in our Relics Mod Wiki.
Obtaining
Allows the Relic bearer to shrink their body to access previously unreachable areas. It can be equipped in the Necklace slot.

There are two locations where the Charm of Shrinking can be found. The first is inside any Chest, as long as it’s in a biome that contains the terms Cave, Cavern, Grotto, Hollow, Den, Chamber, Crypt, and Subterranean, where it has a spawn weight of 300.
Otherwise, it can be found inside any biome, provided the Chest uses loot tables that contain the word Mine, and there, the Charm of Shrinking has a spawn weight of 500.
Relic Quality & Rerolling
When you pick up a Relic, it comes with a quality indicator that you can see by hovering over the portrait image or by looking at the circles underneath it. Each Relic is rated between 0 and 5, based on the quality of its individual abilities.
An ability’s stats can be rerolled, with each stat having a specified minimum and maximum value (refer to the abilities section below for details). To further increase the stats beyond these limits, you will need to use Upgrade Points. Rerolling costs 50 Minecraft Experience for each attempt. Additionally, each time the stats are rerolled, the Luck value will increase by one percent for every stat that hasn’t been successfully improved.
As Luck increases, the likelihood of obtaining better rerolled stats also rises. However, each percentage point of Luck will raise the reroll cost by an additional 5 Minecraft Experience points. For example, at 10% Luck, a reroll would cost 100 Minecraft Experience, while at 50% Luck, the cost would be 300 Minecraft Experience, and so on.
Usage
There’s only a single ability available for the Charm of Shrinking, and that’s Compression. When the Charm of Shrinking is equipped, the size of the player will be reduced, depending on the level and ability quality of the Relic.

This can aid in combat, as the player’s hitbox is also reduced in size. Or it can help access tighter areas, as the player will be able to walk through one-block-high gaps. Even tufts of Grass will be bigger than the player when the Relic is maxed out.
Abilities

One ability is available for the Charm of Shrinking: Compression. The Charm of Shrinking has a maximum level of 10. A total of 10 Upgrade Points can be obtained through leveling the Charm of Shrinking.
1Compression
Reduces the player’s size by X%.
As the Compression ability is leveled up (and the Ability Quality), the size that the player can shrink will be increased. There aren’t too many use cases for this ability, besides secret bases and easier battles.
Compression costs 1 Upgrade Points per level, with a maximum level of 10.
Compression Chances
VARIABLE | BASE VALUE | MAX VALUE |
|---|---|---|
X | 20% – 30% | 60% |
Constellations
To unlock an ability for the Charm of Shrinking, it’s necessary to connect the stars hidden beneath the fog in such a way that the resulting constellation matches the image in the background, and completes the puzzle. When the constellation is correctly aligned, the ability will automatically be researched.

Above is the constellation for the Charm of Shrinking, allowing players to unlock the Compression ability. Hints can be unlocked in the research window for 50 Minecraft Experience each, or the entire constellation can be revealed for 450 Minecraft Experience.
Experience Sources
Relic Experience is required to level up a Relic, gain Upgrade Points, and spend said points on upgrading abilities. The Charm of Shrinking offers just one way to obtain Relic Experience.
Like many other Relics, the Charm of Shrinking makes use of Experience Spreading. Each time any Relic in the inventory gains experience, regardless of the method, the Charm of Shrinking also gains 25% of that experience.
Leveling
The Charm of Shrinking Relic has a maximum level of 10, providing 10 Upgrade Points. The table below shows the cost of upgrading abilities.
Charm of Shrinking Ability Leveling
LEVEL | Minecraft XP | Total XP |
|---|---|---|
1 | 50 | 50 |
2 | 100 | 150 |
3 | 150 | 300 |
4 | 200 | 500 |
5 | 250 | 750 |
6 | 300 | 1050 |
7 | 350 | 1400 |
8 | 400 | 1800 |
9 | 450 | 2250 |
10 | 500 | 2750 |
To level an ability to level 10, a total of 2750 Minecraft Experience is required, equating to 45 Minecraft levels, as well as 10 Upgrade Points.
Config
To edit the configuration for an Artifact-compatible Relic, players must update the enabledExtendedConfigs: false option within relics.yaml in their Minecraft config folder, by changing the value to true.
After relaunching Minecraft, a rarcompat folder will be visible in the config folder. Inside here, look for and edit the charm_of_shrinking.yaml file.
