Relics is a mod that introduces over 20 new items into Minecraft, offering additional functionality to players at all stages of the game. It’s also compatible with other mods, such as Ars Nouveau with the Reliquified Ars Nouveau mod, from which the Emblem of Devotion originates, adding even more Relics themed around the magic elements and structures from this mod.
Each Relic comes with a single ability or multiple, that can be leveled up and upgraded over time. You can learn about all the other available items in our Relics Mod Wiki.
Obtaining
An elegant brooch in the shape of a heart. By channeling the flow through itself, it concentrates it into a sphere that orbits its bearer, forming a boundary against foes. It can be equipped in one of the Charm slots in the Curios interface. This Relic surrounds its bearer, affecting nearby enemies with spell spheres when they reach melee distance.

There are two locations where the Emblem of Devotion can be found. The first is within Chests in biomes that are of a magic theme, or using terms such as Archwood, Flashing, Cascading, Flourishing, Blazing, Esoteric, Enigmatic, Mysterious, Obscur, Crypt, Occult, Secret, Arcan, Mag, Sorcer, Wizard, Enchantment, Witch, Spell, Necroman, Divinat, Charm, Alchem, and Ars in the biome name.
Alternatively, the Emblem of Devotion can be found inside any Chest, as long as it uses a loot table that contains any of the same terms above, or any Chest that uses a ars themed loot table. In both places, the Emblem of Devotion has a relatively high spawn chance as it has a spawn weight of 600.
Relic Quality & Rerolling
When you pick up a Relic, it comes with a quality indicator that you can see by hovering over the portrait image or by looking at the circles underneath it. Each Relic is rated between 0 and 5, based on the quality of its individual abilities.
An ability’s stats can be rerolled, with each stat having a specified minimum and maximum value (refer to the abilities section below for details). To further increase the stats beyond these limits, you will need to use Upgrade Points. Rerolling costs 50 Minecraft Experience for each attempt. Additionally, each time the stats are rerolled, the Luck value will increase by one percent for every stat that hasn’t been successfully improved.
As Luck increases, the likelihood of obtaining better rerolled stats also rises. However, each percentage point of Luck will raise the reroll cost by an additional 5 Minecraft Experience points. For example, at 10% Luck, a reroll would cost 100 Minecraft Experience, while at 50% Luck, the cost would be 300 Minecraft Experience, and so on.
Usage
To use the Emblem of Devotion, the player needs to craft a Scribes Table and a Spell Book from the Ars Nouveau mod to inscribe a spell into the Relic.

To create a spell using the Relic, you’ll need to follow a series of steps. First, begin by designing the spell in your spell book, starting with the touch form specified by the Relic’s description. This makes sense, as the mobs must touch the magical spheres around the player for the spell to take effect.
It is advisable to add a knockback or damaging effect to the spells, as this aligns with the intended use of the Relic. For example, you could create a spell called “Touch, Knockback, Amplify.” In this spell, “Touch” serves as the form, “Knockback” pushes the hostile entity away, and “Amplify” enhances the effect, ensuring a stronger knockback that sends the entity farther away.

This approach will help make the spheres more effective in keeping hostile entities at a distance from the player. This is the only Emblem that has a visual effect, as shown in the image. The Orbs can be seen circling the Relic Bearer, in a similar visual style as other Ars Nouvea elements.
Setting up the Emblem of Devotion
To set the spell, follow these steps: Place the Emblem on the Scribe’s Table while holding the Spell Book. Ensure the Spell Book is set to the correct spell as stated above, and then sneak while pressing right-click to apply the spell to the Emblem.
If the process is successful, you will see a message saying “Spell set,” and the symbols used to create the spell will appear in the tooltip of the Emblem of Devotion. Finally, equip the Emblem of Devotion in one of the Charm Slots in the Charm slot of the Curios interface to activate its new spell the next time a living entity comes near you.
When applied, the Emblem allows that spell to be cast on the player without using mana and repeats the spell after a cooldown period. The spell becomes more powerful as the Relic is upgraded, allowing more components to be applied.
Abilities

One ability is available for the Emblem of Devotion: Devotion. The Emblem of Devotion has a maximum level of 10. A total of 10 Upgrade Points can be obtained through leveling the Emblem of Devotion.
1Devotion
Summons one orbital sphere with a linked spell every X seconds. Which casts the spell on a target upon collision. The total number of spheres cannot exceed Y. To function, the item must be inscribed using a Scribe’s Table with a spell consisting of no more than Z components and starting with the ‘Touch’ form.
This Relic enhances the player’s defense by adding a spell effect of their choice, which can be created using the Spell Book, which is then concentrated into numerous spheres that orbit the player passively. It is advisable to focus on knockback or stun style spell combinations since the Touch effect only activates when a living entity approaches the player.
As the Relic is upgraded, the range of possible combinations and effects increases significantly. Components in this instance mean the number of glyphs stacked to make the spell; if the spell already has the desired effect, the Amplify Augment can be used to make the spell more powerful and potent.
Unlike the other two Emblems in the Reliquified Ars Nouvea mod, the Emblem of Devotion Relic features orbs that are semi-permanently surrounding the player, making it more useful for extended periods, such as exploration in less safe areas, where the player is very likely to have multiple orbs up at one time at maximum upgrade levels.
The Devotion ability costs 1 Upgrade Point per level, with a maximum level of 10.
Devotion Chances
VARIABLE | BASE VALUE | MAX VALUE |
|---|---|---|
X | An Orb is summoned every 25 – 30 Seconds. | An Orb is summoned every 10 Seconds. |
Y | 1 – 3 Orbs can be present at any time. | 8 Orbs can be present at any time. |
Z | You can use 2 to 3 components in the spell being cast. | You can use 10 components in the spell being cast. |
Experience Sources
Relic Experience is required to level up a Relic, gain Upgrade Points, and spend said points on upgrading abilities. The Emblem of Devotion offers 2 different ways to obtain Relic Experience.
Players will earn +1 Relic Experience for each activation of the spell inscribed in the Emblem Relic created by the Devotion ability. As long as a spell is inscribed, players will naturally gain experience by using the Emblem for its intended purpose.
Like many other Relics, the Emblem of Devotion makes use of Experience Spreading. Each time any Relic in the inventory gains experience, regardless of the method, the Emblem of Devotion also gains 25% of that experience.
Leveling
The Emblem of Devotion Relic has a maximum level of 10, providing 10 Upgrade Points. The table below shows the cost of upgrading abilities.
Emblem of Devotion Ability Leveling
LEVEL | Minecraft XP | Total XP |
|---|---|---|
1 | 50 | 50 |
2 | 100 | 150 |
3 | 150 | 300 |
4 | 200 | 500 |
5 | 250 | 750 |
6 | 300 | 1050 |
7 | 350 | 1400 |
8 | 400 | 1800 |
9 | 450 | 2250 |
10 | 500 | 2750 |
To level an ability to level 10, a total of 2750 Minecraft Experience is required, equating to 45 Minecraft levels and 10 Upgrade Points.
Config
To edit the configuration for an Ars Nouveau-compatible Relic, players must update the enabledExtendedConfigs: false option within relics.yaml in their Minecraft config folder, by changing the value to true.
After relaunching Minecraft, a reliquified_ars_nouveau folder will be visible in the config folder. Inside here, look for and edit the emblem_of_devotion.yaml file.
