Orb of Prophecy

The Orb of Prophecy is an essential item in the Eternal Starlight mod. It serves as the key to accessing a new dimension, activating spells, and tracking bosses. Players receive the orb from the Gatekeeper after initiating and successfully surviving an encounter near a portal structure.

Obtaining the Orb of Prophecy

To acquire the Orb of Prophecy, players must first locate a Portal to the Eternal Starlight dimension within the Overworld. These portals are guarded by a powerful mini-boss known as the Gatekeeper.

After defeating the Gatekeeper in combat, players will receive a Reward Bag that contains the Orb of Prophecy and the Starlight Storybook, as well as some other useful items. Alternatively, players can craft an Orb of Prophecy, though this is only doable after entering the Eternal Starlight dimension.

Crafting the Orb of Prophecy

For players who already have access to the Eternal Starlight dimension, it’s possible to create additional Orbs of Prophecy. Doing so requires 4 Glass Blocks and 5 Blue Starlight Crystal Shards.

To obtain Blue Starlight Crystal Shards, players should locate and kill the Crystallized Moth. It’s able to drop Red Starlight Crystal Shards, Blue Starlight Crystal Shards, and Shivering Gel.

Alternatively, mining Blue Starlight Crystal Clusters will net the player Blue Starlight Crystal Shards, provided they’re using an Iron Pickaxe. Blue Clusters, along with Red Clusters, can both be mined from the Crystallized Desert biome within the Eternal Starlight, and it can be found on the surface, not underground.

Using the Orb

Portal Activation

The primary purpose of the Orb of Prophecy is to activate the Eternal Starlight Portal. To open the gateway, players should right-click the block of a cleared portal frame. The orb is not consumed during this process, allowing it to be reused indefinitely. Players should ensure that the Portal Frame is cleared of any Vines before activating it.

Boss Tracking

The orb also plays a role in locating bosses within the dimension. By combining it with flora from Eternal Starlight biomes, players can craft a Seeking Eye. When used while holding a related item in the offhand, the Seeking Eye reveals the direction of boss arenas. This mechanic is reminiscent of Eye of Ender functionality in vanilla Minecraft.

Spell Activation

The Orb of Prophecy is necessary to activate specific spells introduced by the mod. When held in the main hand, players can cycle through the available spells by using a configurable hotkey (default is “H”). Once a spell is selected, right-clicking will charge and execute it. Currently, the Blazing Beam spell, which is unlocked by defeating the Starlight Golem, is fully functional.

The spell interface can be opened by holding down the RMB while holding an Orb of Prophecy. However, a Crest must be obtained first, such as one from the Starlight Golem.

Additional Notes

The Orb of Prophecy is a permanent item that must be protected during gameplay, and it is essential for progressing through the mod’s dimensions and boss systems. Due to its importance, it is advisable to store it in a secure location.
