Bosses

Gatekeeper

Estimated reading: 3 minutes

The Gatekeeper is a recurring miniboss encountered in the Eternal Starlight mod. It serves an important role in progression by guarding Portal locations and providing an initial combat challenge before players gain access to the dimension.

While not as powerful as the primary bosses, such as the Lunar Monstrosity or Starlight Golem, the Gatekeeper presents a considerable threat if players are unprepared. It frequently serves as the initial test of a player’s readiness for the more challenging obstacles found within the mod.

Encounter Location

Gatekeepers appear near naturally occurring portals to the Eternal Starlight dimension, which are in the Overworld. These portals are created using Voidstone, and can be found across different biomes and themes, including Common, Cold, Desert, Forest, and Jungle.

With commands enabled, the Portals can also be located using the command /locate structure eternal_starlight:portal_ruins_ , then choose a theme such as cold, desert, forest, common, and jungle.

Combat Mechanics

The Gatekeeper attacks with a mix of physical melee strikes and a few ranged abilities. It moves swiftly and can lunge at players with a powerful knockback effect. If it gets too close, its chain melee combo can deal cumulative damage and cause significant disorientation.

At range, it can occasionally launch missiles into the air that rain down and cause minor area damage. These projectiles move slowly, allowing them to disrupt ranged players or spellcasters trying to channel their abilities. They need to be dodged to avoid their damage, which the player has a few seconds to do.

The Gatekeeper can also launch players into the air, causing them to receive high amounts of fall damage.

Recommended Strategies

Players should approach the Gatekeeper with enchanted gear and maintain awareness of their surroundings. Using flat terrain or elevated platforms can help reduce the impact of its knockback. It’s advisable to use a Bow or a ranged spell to gradually reduce its health before engaging in close combat.

Players should also monitor health closely, as the Gatekeeper’s attacks often chain into each other with little delay. In multiplayer settings, one player should focus on kiting or distracting the boss while others apply consistent ranged damage. Healing and support roles can significantly improve survival rates during more protracted battles.

Rewards

The Gatekeeper provides two guaranteed drops after opening the Loot Bag. The first is the Orb of Prophecy, which is not only used to access the Eternal Starlight Dimension but also to equip and cast spells later on in the game. A Starlight Story book is also released, providing lore about the dimension and serving as a small encyclopedia.

Players can also receive Coal, Iron Ingots, and Gold Ingots. Multiple Seeking Eyes can also be dropped, which are used to track bosses within the Eternal Starlight Dimension.
